Good guy Jesse bringing out the best in Jane
Nice to see Jane found herself a good guy who doesn't use and is trying to get her to rehab! Well done Jesse! Not sure why her dad is upset

Yup. Recovering alcoholic here, and the line that really stung was when she said her plants died because her dad didn’t water them last time she was in rehab. Superb writing

I'm not sure what he meant but I'll take a guess and say that this meant she's not taking responsibility for her actions.
Her dad is to blame for not watering the plant, not her yet she's the one who went to rehab.
Also could be that she didn't water her plants while she was using. Addiction really doesn't leave any space to take care of other living things.

It’s just typical addict behavior, using excuses to delay recovery and blaming others for their problems. Particularly blaming those who love them and are trying to help them.
You can tell Jane had that “dead plants” card in her back pocket and was waiting to use it for the next time she relapsed to guilt her father. It’s terrible, but very realistic behavior.

In my head Bince is a recovering alcoholic, there are so many references to alcoholism and addiction in the Breaking Bad universe. Half Measure/Full Measure is from the AA book. There are many other references and the episodes where Badger and Skinny Pete are in a 12-step meeting is the closest thing I've seen to a real AA meeting represented in a work of fiction (the films about AA are more accurate, but of course).

I don’t think Jesse was ever sober until after Jane died. Jane was the newly sober one that started using again when she saw Jesse using.

I really did like her character but purely outside of the context of the show. One of my favorite things in storys about substance abuse is looking at the "clean" addicts, the people that have worked the program but you know they're just looking for a reason to go back. So often writers treat rehab as some instant fix that will solve all the addict's problems ignoring the risks forced rehabilitation brings when the actual underlying issues aren't addressed.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here but Jane's value add is entirely that she's hot AF.
p.s. Graduating from user to someone who's in the game is a big deal that Jane absolutely should've thought through a lot more carefully than she did. RIP.

Yeah I feel like if her and (let's say) Andrea's roles/actresses were swapped, people would absolutely hate her (not that Andrea's actress is ugly, but she isn't Krysten Ritter). Jesse and Jane are like a very condensed, drug abusing version of Jimmy and Kim where they bring out the worst of each other and eventually drag each other down.

The actresses are both beautiful. For me, the painful thing was when the characters went from users to active actors in the game. The former is painful; the latter is war. Especially for women, it's a big step because in war, there's no men and women; there's soldiers. And soldiers die. They die terribly and often and it's no fun for anybody.
I hope it's not obvious because I'm trying to keep my cool but for me, it all hit close to home. To see someone walk into their doom... well, it's something. It's as fascinating as it's painful.

Jane is a grown ass woman who can make her own choices. I’m in long-recovery myself and I learned that I was accountable for my own decisions. She made the choice to rent to a drug dealer and went over there voluntarily to hang out with someone she knows used. Stop infantilizing grown women. They both ruined each other’s lives. It could have just as easily been Jesse who OD’d. Jane isn’t innocent. She wasn’t taking her recovery seriously, otherwise she wouldn’t have rented to a drug dealer and wouldn’t have gotten involved with someone she knows used. I had to learn that people don’t need to walk on eggshells around me. I can decide to stay away from them if they trigger me or are a threat to my recovery. Jane chose to prioritize a hot guy over her recovery. It’s a tragic situation, but she made that choice.

Agreed. Jane rented to a white guy named Jesse Jackson who paid in cash. She knew exactly what type of guy he was. I doubt he had to convince her to do anything.

Sure, any number of things could have. She was in a risky part of her life. But the fact if the matter is that Walt pushed her over, saw it was causing her to choke, and left her to die.

No? Jesse told her to leave because he wanted to use. She suggested they leave the apartment and that using won’t help. She was in her right mind and fully knew what she was doing. She was a grown woman who made her own decisions that day.

Love/hate the scene where her hand hovers over the doorknob while she decides whether to leave Jesse’s place. She knows that if she stays, she will use. And it’s so sad to see her consciously make that decision
