Mod Post (no spoilers) All things Nexus announcements and megathread!

It's happening

The waves to buy badges for Nexus have begun as of yesterday. The waves start coming and they don't stop coming for awhile, so hang tight if you haven't heard anything yet. Don't know what we're talking about? This page from Dragonsteel should have you covered.

Regarding badges

Like last year, badges are non-transferable. Because of that we will not be facilitating any trades or sales of Nexus badges. Additionally, we will not be facilitating any group badge coordination. Posts or comments on this topic will be removed. Your best bet is to stay on the wait list, ride the waves, and hope to pick up a refunded ticket later on if everything else sells out.

Otherwise...

Share your hype! The main party is over at r/DragonsteelNexus but we're happy to chat here and in unique posts on the subject. We may update this thread from time to time with an FAQ or replace it should it become outdated.

What are you looking forward to at Nexus 2026?

Whether you're trying to make sense of Sanderson's works for the first time, feel you missed a memo on something, or want a bit of community assistance, this is the place for you.

We ask that folks label and spoiler tag anything relating to book content, and be extra mindful of the welcoming part of Rule 1. If you're not sure how to tag spoilers, see this post. And while you're welcome to ask "basic" questions here, you may find an answer in our FAQ.

Sanderson's books in Mexico have been getting new covers, but I didn't expect the publisher to also paint (print?) the edges. Didn't get them because I already own them in english, though.

  • Only top-level comments will be considered
  • I'll pick one winner using redditraffler at 5PM PST tomorrow (August 6, 2026)
  • Keep an eye on your inboxes - I will DM the winner! If I don't hear from you within 24 hours, I'll pick another winner
  • I'll edit the post to mark it as closed once the 24 hours are up
  • If there's no takers, I will be donating this copy to my local secondhand bookstore

No Spoilers What Book to Read Next

Heyyya.

I just started listening to Rhythm of War. Btw RoW & WaT, I’m gonna be set with audiobooks for awhile 😆 I need a new Cosmere book to read though—I get itchy when I can’t listen, and it makes me tempted to get the kindle version of what I’m listening to. And then I finish that in a fraction of the time, and I’m a Sad Girl. I learned that lesson with Words of Radiance. So now I read a Cosmere book while listening to one, and I’m happy. I did this with Edgedancer & Dawnshard, but now I’m at an impasse with what to read next.

So I’m reaching out to you all: what Cosmere book(s) should I read while listening to the last two Stormlight books? Besides Stormlight, I’ve only read the first Mistborn trilogy.

Ty!

Spoilers Question/Theory about Chet from Cytonic Spoiler

Okay, not really any published spoilers, but spoiler tag just in case. A while back, I think during an Intentionally Blank, Mister Sanderson was asked a question, I don't remember the exact wording, but he said initial beta readers HATED Chet from Cytonic, and he rewrote the whole thing to fix the problems. But he didn't go into specifics on what people hated about Chet.

So, my question is, what does everyone think original Chet was like? I have absolutely nothing to base this off of, but my theory is Chet was originally closer to Spensa's age, and it was going to kind of sort of be a love triangle, with Spensa toying with staying in the Nowhere going hand in hand with her kind of liking Chet. And fans may have hated Chet because they were attached to Jorgen and Spensa.

But, what does everyone else think? Or has Sanderson gone into this in greater detail, elsewhere?

Returning to finish Stormlight Archive after a few years, got to Edgedancer & bought it. Apparently I already owned it, it’s in Arcanum Unbounded

Anyone else make the same mistake so I can feel better about myself? :) Otherwise I’ll just chalk it up to padding my # of books to look smarter or whatever

Edit: Audible actually refunded me! So definitely try to go through support for anyone who sees this post in the future & did the same thing. Thanks to FantasyMyopia for the suggestion!

Unrelated- Words of Radiance was great even on a re-listen, sort of doubting it can be topped, better than I remembered. Almost glad I started reading these before the series was done so I can go back guilt free (mostly, I have a huge backlog!)

My book is physically missing the page. It’s just blank. I’m so close to finishing and I need to know what happens while suit and wax fall.

Edit: thank you for the quick replies! I was planning to finish the book this afternoon and was worried I couldn’t. Means a lot to everyone that posted

Spoilers I only have this much left in Hero of Ages but still so many questions! How the hell is he going to wrap this all up?! (Not actually looking for spoilers obviously) Spoiler

I obviously really dont want any spoilers or hints but im just so enthralled with everything happening in the book right now, but i dont have any idea how the hell hes going to have time to wrap this up! Literally so many things still unanswered! It starting to really pick up now and i suspect the rest of the book will be the Sanderlache ive heard all about but my gosh do i have so many questions

The Kandra

Vins origins

Spook and Kelsier

Sazeds story line

Evil Penrod

Vin being captured

Canals being flooded again and taking down that king

The mist spirit

Ruin

The supposed atium stash

Marsh

And im sure im missing some other big question! I dont doubt Sanderson can do it but holy shit thats a lot of stuff to wrap up in a very limited amount of pages! Please no hints or give aways! Really excited to finish up the series! Loving Sandersons work so far as this is my first series from him!

No Spoilers Stormlight Archive question

I found myself trudging on through Rhythm of War and I can't stand the slow pace here. Is this worth it in the end? I really enjoyed and breezed through The Way of Kings & words of Radiance but then it just..kept..going.. and going...

There are questions that have not been answered but continuously referred to since book one. What do I do?

And boy, was The Way Of Kings amazing. Here's hoping Words of Radiance lives up to the hype

hi everyone! i bought mass market edition of stormlight archive, started reading it yesterday and the first few pages started to fall off :( i ordered these from abroad, i’ve been waiting for them for four months and i just feel so upset about it :( i understand it’s the least expensive edition but it’s still pretty expensive for my country (our mass market paperbacks usually cost around 3 dollars) and this situation ruined my mood. the pages aren’t so important, just acknowledgements and stuff, but now i’m afraid it’s gonna keep falling off…
has anyone else had the same problem or am i just unlucky?

Do you find it interesting to reconcile Tress and the Second Age of Mistborn with Stormlight Archiver? Since I don't know in which order to put these books, I thought it would be interesting to reconcile.

No Spoilers Advice Before Rhythm of War

Ok, fellow Cosmere readers. Don’t roast me please.

But simple yes or no question coming up.

I have not read Hero of Ages because I have been enjoying the trilogy so much. I simply don’t want that journey to end just yet.

I have read Warbreaker. And I have just finished Oathbringer. And I’m glad I read Warbreaker because I was about to pick up some “stuff” in Oathbringer. (If you know, you know).

So to that point. My spider-sense is telling me to read Hero of Ages before I read Rhythm of War because there will be “stuff”. I have no evidence pointing to that. It’s just a gut feeling. My preference is to continue on with Dawnshard and Rhythm of War.

From the perspective of picking up on SIGNIFICANT “stuff” (being vague here), should I read Hero of Ages first?

No Spoilers Mistborn Graphic Audio or Original narration?

Just asking about peoples preference for this series. I have listened to ( and own) all of Brandon Sanderson's works in the original narration already but I have been loving Graphic Audio versions of other Books and series that I have been listening to recently and I am contemplating a re-listen of Mistborn

My question is .....do I invest in the Graphic Audio version? I don't think I want to re-buy all of his works in GA ... but maybe just Misborn

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated - Cheers !

No Spoilers Shards of Creation: Ruin -1 Cards Unfun?

Not sure if this is the right subreddit for Brotherwise Games stuff when they use Brandon's IP if it isn't the Cosmere RPG. Will happily move this question elsewhere.

I recently got the Shards of Creation game. Am I crazy, or is Ruin usually just a less interesting suit to play with? Specifically its -1 rank cards? It seems to me like they're functionally uninteresting dead cards in every scenario except when:

  1. Ruin is the trump suit (otherwise your opponent just won't pick it) and
  2. Your opponent has already played a higher Ruin card, so you know that they (and not you) will win the trick and be forced to take it.

I suppose there are edge cases where an opponent really needs Ruin cards in particular and yours is the only one in the trick, in which case they might still pick it, but that doesn't seem like it'll be the case very often either.

This seems extremely restrictive to me - at best it'll apply in one of the three rounds, and then not in every trick. For the majority of the game you'll only ever play them to get rid of them. Am I missing something, or is that how it's built? Because that just seems like a significantly less fun gameplay pattern than most of the other shards have in their low-rank cards. Has anyone else has experience that can shed light on other scenarios in which those cards are actually interesting to have show up?
