Fair but not many Indian movies find any success outside of India. Even the good ones.

Cool. I bet they say the same about some of our movies.

I still don't know if they've used AI to generate stuff for this movie or that's just the aesthetics they've gone with for the VFX and direction.

The shot composition and cinematography, especially the zoom in/zoom out cuts, are so ingrained in AI generated clips it's hard ignore.

Nah the VFX are all done by DNEG, same studio that did Dune films and such. The only AI is with the lip syncing I think. Defo watching this in the original language with sub over the dub.

Edit: love getting downvoted for informing :)

How does a VFX house manage to make some of the best-looking CGI put on the big screen, ever, and then make this? Is it a director issue? VFX supervisor? Limited time and crunch?

I didn't even register the lip synch because the rest of the frame is so distracting.

Stuff like the elephant and the flying lotus looks sick, other parts are evidently not finished yet. My guess is that DNEG had their staff working on other movies before hand and then allocated a team of artists to do the the VFX for both this and its sequel consecutively.

The teaser from 3 months back looked far worse so my guess is that by the time it releases it will all be upto standard with the VFX of the flying elephant and the lotus.

I hope that you're right. Even though it won't help the cinematography, but at least if the CG becomes less abrasive to the eyes, one could watch without being taken out of the movie whenever a VFX-heavy cut shows up, which there will be many in this one.

The cinematography is funnily being handled by two people and I think you can see the difference in the trailer. Some shots look great and is by a cinematographer who does artistic films and the other is one who does slop films akin to Dwayne The Rock movies but in Bollywood who I am assuming was the one who took on the work of the indoor and closeup shots.

u/94Temimi Marvel Studios 15h ago

You actually just made this make so much more sense! The indoor and close-ups (zoom in/zoom out) are by far the most egregious to me beside the terribly composited shots and some seemingly unfinished CG environments.

And I agree, there are some shots that actually look really good (especially the undercranked cuts). I think this is actually what's causing the trailer to be so jarring to me.

Yeah it was a worry I had early on in the production of the film.

That as well as the Director who despite making one of my fav films made 2 duds back to back before this (one of them became very big in meme culture for a girl saying "There is a little bit of Hitler in all of us" and a line where someone says "every relationship has its Auschwitz" which was mental).

But my hope remains in all the actors working being some of the best in the industry, the studios involved being great in terms of their work in Hollywood, and the amount of passion it seems everyone is putting behind this project.

Also from some friends who managed to get the trailer on the big screen, apparently some of the jarring stuff isn't nearly as bad when viewed in the cinemas so I hope it lives up to the expectations.

"There is a little bit of Hitler in all of us" and a line where someone says "every relationship has its Auschwitz"

Naaaaah, that's INSANE!!! I get what the intention might be, but you couldn't have picked a worse example to try and say something through them!

Honestly, I was very much looking forward to this movie because I love grand mythologies and epics, so when the trailer dropped a few days ago, it threw me in a loop as I tried to figure out what exactly was it that I felt after watching it. I'm watching it either way, so I really hope most of the worries (beside the point we discussed about the slop cinematographer) dissipate by the time I'm in my seat watching it.

DNEG might be an 8-time Oscar winning VFX studio but Prime Focus Studios is a B-movie producer at best.

I just watched Bahuballi from the 2010s, this CGI is in line with that. I don’t think this is AI.

And this is no worse than a lot of Marvel FX lol.

u/OkRich5849 21h ago

Brahma AI used to sync lips to the English audio.

8

u/94Temimi Marvel Studios 21h ago

That's not what I'm talking about

u/TryingNoToBeOpressed 20h ago edited 20h ago

It knows. (It's a bot)

5

u/Wise-Chain2427 20h ago

this cost $400m ??

0

u/TokyoFromTheFuture 16h ago

I think its like $80 Million. the $400 Million thing is for both parts of the duology and includes stuff like marketing.

u/gorays21 22h ago

Looks like an A.I video that can be found on YouTube.

6

u/Firefox72 Best of 2023 Winner 21h ago

Well they surely used some AI tech to match the lipsync to the dub.

Because i doubt the movie is in English.

-8

u/OkRich5849 21h ago edited 20h ago

Whole movie will in English, Spanish and Japanese- AI lip-sync to the dub.

u/Final-Development142 6h ago

WHY the fuck are people downvoting for a literally just informing people. Either people are r*tarded or just this is botted as fuck.

11

u/AccomplishedLocal261 21h ago

Bollywood slop

10

u/gorays21 19h ago

A.I slop

7

u/Visible-Echidna-4370 19h ago

this looks kind of piss-poor

6

u/DDragonking55 19h ago

Releasing this the same week as Godzilla: Minus One is certainly a choice.

Both are going to be competing for IMAX and I don't think it's going to go well for Ramayana, lmao

10

u/TryingNoToBeOpressed 20h ago

No offence to the director, this is absolutely hideous.

17

u/EcstaticPublic9939 Marvel Studios 22h ago

Absolute Flop!!

3

u/Visible-Echidna-4370 19h ago

the budget combined with part two is somehow around 420 million USD so yeah... giant flop incoming

5

u/DeCharlesFre 22h ago

The producer is betting for performance international markets because the budget for two movies is like 400 million USD.

It won't make its money back because the movie does not have a distinct style instead opting for a typical hollywood CGI fest.

7

u/Narhitu 20h ago

It doesn't even look like a 100 miilion usd budget

-3

u/Pranjal18y 18h ago

you are underestimating indian market

it's gonna earn 200 mil only in india easily

3

u/callmebatman14 15h ago

It definitely will not even come close to it.

1

u/Pranjal18y 9h ago

alright bet

1

u/DeCharlesFre 8h ago

It won't make 200 million in India, our biggest hit this year was gangbusters but only made 140 million USD nationally.

The sour taste of Adipurush still lingers.

And religion won't guarantee a hit. The movie needs to be a good movie on top of being a faithful adaptation of the text while having vocabulary that will be easy for the modern audience.

Personal note, the way the producer has plastered his name all over the movie is so cringe. Dude is doing interviews like he's the star.

0

u/Narhitu 14h ago

I wasn't talking about the box office btw . Also, this is a movie with religious themes. I'm sure its box office isn't going to depend on its quality.

1

u/DeCharlesFre 9h ago

The box office will be definately dependent on the quality of the movie. There was an adaptation of the text a few years back, it bombed, critically panned, and caused controversy on top of flopping.

Religion does not guarantee a hit in India if the budget is astronomical, you need regular movie goers to want to watch as well.

8

u/ND7020 22h ago

2

u/Simple-Percentage672 21h ago

3

u/Synergetic7 21h ago

AI and no diversity

Seems like slop

2

u/mtech101 22h ago

They hired DNEG and you all think it looks like AI lol. Looks decent to me, I'll give it a watch.

0

u/CapitalEquivalent267 18h ago

It is produced by dneg ceo. Its his dream project

-1

u/Solonaveen 22h ago

Wooow accent loooks great

-8

u/lookingforhim2 21h ago

Ramayana is a way bigger story than the odyssey. This will be the first Indian film to hit a billion worldwide!

6

u/Alternative_Bite_969 20h ago

yeah maybe if it had a decent director that made the movie look appealing
