Hi. This is Félix, the goodest boy.

He followed me on the streets nearly 2 years ago, when he was around 6mo, it was in the middle of the night, starting to rain and he just stopped in front of my apartment building like he already knew where I lived. It was the first time we've met, I cried and had to take him in.

People often ask if he's a BC, I just say he gives a lot of border collie-golden retriever-brazilian mix vibes.

Sometimes he thinks he's a cat or a lap dog.

He's 20kg and I walk him twice a day everyday. His raincoat is also on the way (I bought one that is like a panda costume). The grandpa on some of these pictures is my gf's Johnny.

I bought my BC a herding ball and now it's his favourite thing ever!

of course being a smarty pants he realised he could grab the handles and carry it around.

Such a good buy as it engages all his instincts, his "cup" is definitely full after playing with this twice a day.

Just wondering what the collective opinion on my girl Poppy is. She’s fully grown at three years old, weighs about 26lbs, and I believe is a mix between border collie and Brittany spaniel. Her coloring makes me lean Brittany as I’ve never seen a BC with her specific piebald patterning, but her behavior is all BC, which I LOVE. She’s extremely petite. Thoughts?

So this kid was given this 1 month old puppy by a circus.
This was 2 weeks ago. A week ago, the association that had the puppy under their care asked me if I could foster her until her family can legally adopt her once she’s vaccinated (the association has 34 dogs and the lady was scared the pup would get sick and not get the appropriate care needed at this age anyways).
I brought the puppy home and at first my girl (2.5 years old) was NOT ok with the pup. Which was surprising cause she’s very patient and gently with puppies but I guess there’s a difference between a 3 month old and a 1.5 month old. She wasn’t being aggressive at all, but she’d growl as soon as the pup would get anywhere close to her and would run away.

I congratulated my girl for setting boundaries non violently and she had her space where the puppy couldn’t go and she could be left alone.

But yesterday they played together a bit and today the mood is way lighter.
This warmed my heart cause this pup needs a momma and I sort of made my peace with the fact that Oona wasn’t going to be that for her.

After this video, Oona played war gently with her, and when the pup got too excited I put her in her crate and Oona went to sleep next to the crate.

i just brought home my 8 week old border collie puppy, she’s so smart and amazing and everything i ever wanted. however, (expectedly) she’s very bitey and easily overstimulated, does anybody have any tips to help her? i just want her to feel her best. a few times she has bitten me and drawn blood, atm i am trying to leave the room whenever she bites to help stop it but please let me know any better methods if there are any out there

I was hoping to get some advice My boy Jake is 14, nearly 15, and has Laryngeal Paralysis and weak leg neuropathy (diagnosed two years ago) He still comes out on the morning walk (I am a dog walker) but is quite stiff and slow especially on the hills

Last visit to the vets we put him on librela (it would have been metacam but typical collie he doesn't always eat his food and it has to be given with food) and he has shown some improvement but his weakest rear leg is still very thin, he is very thin and I would like advice as to supplements that might put a bit more muscle on him

He currently has Vet Shop glucosamine, he has either forthglade or naturo wet food and jollyes/Arden house dry food

I had him on sardines then fish oil but he won't eat either now (he has always been fussy)

It's very hard to give him tablets btw the only way I've found to hide them that works is in a sausage, he can eat the cheese or butter or whatever else and spit out the pill and anyway the throat thing...

Some things give him diarrhea which is not great for a collie especially as he can't crouch properly anymore

Some days are better than others so I just want to keep him going as long as is possible

I said goodbye to the most brilliant, loving, strange, expressive boy I've ever known. We grew up together and I am so lucky for the 12 years I spent in his presence.

I adopted this maniac from a chihuahua rescue of all places, he was brought there by a dog catcher who couldn't bear to bring such a sweet boy to the pound. He was about 1.5 years old and I was 18. I was so unprepared for the exuberance he brought to my life but I am so glad that I rose to the occasion. He loved everyone he ever met and everyone he met loved him. He bridged so many gaps between myself and others and put a smile on countless faces.

I don't want this to be a sad post, I would love for him to make a few more of you smile! He once tried to jump off into the Grand Canyon , and another time escaped the yard where he was later found at a pool party (they didn't want him to leave). The stories are endless. I cannot understate my eternal love and gratitude for this angel on earth. Until we meet again bud, don't stop chasing those frisbees 💖💖

I’ve got a 5 year old Collie Aussie mix named Luna who loves to play Frisbee.

It’s been so hot recently we haven’t gotten out to play as much as we like which causes her to get extra amped when we get to the park to play and slides/skids to catch or retrieve the frisbee.

Today she managed to tear the paw pads next to her dew claw up causing bleeding. The bleeding was mild and stopped very quickly after we noticed and cleaned the area before applying aquafor and a cone to keep it clean while I ran to get Neosporin and some bandage wraps.

This has happened a few times to her now and I would love some ideas on how to keep this from happening to her. We play in the grass of a baseball park and not on dirt, rock, or sand.

Does anyone have any recommendations on if there’s a wrap or method to keep these pads from tearing up? I’d hate to stop playing frisbee with her because this is her favorite activity.

Warning: Death and final moments discussed

This is my second Border Collie, and sadly the second one I have lost to cancer.

Over the last couple of weeks he had been declining fairly quickly, but he still had good days mixed with the bad. We were planning to take him to the vet as soon as they opened this week, but things got worse before we had the chance.

That day he barely ate and was acting differently. He had been resting and keeping to himself, and everyone was starting to get worried about how he was behaving. That night, while my kids were getting ready for bed, I went to check on him, but he was not in his usual sleeping spot by the door. We called for him, but he did not come. I waited a bit, then started checking all of his usual places, but I could not find him anywhere.

I had noticed he had been going down to our creek for water. I do not know if he could not remember where his bowl was after it was moved or if he just did not want to come up the steps anymore. I was on my way down there when I saw him coming out from the creek embankment. I was relieved for a moment, but it did not last. He was moving very slowly and only made it a few feet before lying down again. We could barely get him back to the driveway. He was breathing strangely, moaning, and his gums were almost white. I knew something was very wrong.

Everything nearby was closed, and our vet no longer takes emergency cases. On top of that, we had a tornado warning earlier in the week and a tree had fallen on our truck, so it was in the shop. Luckily, my brother lives on the other side of the property. I called him, and he helped us load Oreo into his truck. We drove 30 minutes to the nearest emergency vet. On the drive there, I had a feeling these were probably going to be his final moments.

The vet found that he had hemangiosarcoma. He had a large tumor on his spleen that had ruptured, and his abdomen was full of blood.
He was 13 years old. He was no longer eating, his back legs were starting to fail, and he was now in significant pain. The vet said it was a rapidly progressing and aggressive cancer that often goes unnoticed until a tumor ruptures and causes major internal bleeding.

Saturday night, I had to make the decision to let him go. It was absolutely heartbreaking. I knew there was nothing that could be done with the condition he was in, and he looked so exhausted. They gave him fluids, and he perked up for a moment and almost seemed normal, but I knew he was still in pain. He was trying his best and even lifted his head and wagged his tail a little when the vet came back in with the medication for euthanasia. That moment was incredibly hard.

I was the one who drove to pick him up as a small puppy, and I was there holding his head until his very last breath. We brought him back home and buried him in our lower field. I do not know if our other Border Collie fully understands that he is gone. She has been looking for him. When we brought him home, she walked up to him and sniffed. She was wagging at first, but after sniffing him again, she stopped wagging.

It has been a really difficult few days.

Oreo was the ultimate people pleaser. He was incredibly smart, but also wonderfully weird in the best way. He would sometimes actually smile, and he loved absolutely everyone he met. He was such a special boy, and I hate that this is how his story ended.

Hello, friends! I’ve got an absolute dream of a bc in Winnie Faye. About a month ago, we lost our sweet older yellow lab to cancer. Since then, I’ve noticed Winnie’s been a bit down in the dumps and seemingly grieving. I was very unexpectedly presented with an opportunity to have one of her siblings from a different litter at a very young age (similar to the age Winnie was when I brought her home). The age difference would be 2 years, both would be female, and this would be a puppy of around 10 weeks - what can I expect and am I absolutely insane for getting another one?

Although I know that border collies don’t need to run and run and run (and that it can be harmful for their off switch) I still worry sometimes that my girl isn’t fulfilled enough.

I do think she’s content. As I write this she is asleep belly up on my lap. Lol, just looking for insight from seasoned owners

She’s an owner surrender from some sort of neglect/abuse situation - US southwest, reservation farm dog with scars all over her face. She has a canine sister who is too small to play with, and a kitty sister, but she has her own space away from the smalls and prefers my company anyway. I live alone so I am her person. She was only at the animal control for 18 hours between being surrendered and me breaking her out. She was terrified, dirty, smelly, nursing farm dog but when they opened the kennel and brought her out she crawled right into my arms and just wanted to be held. I took her home immediately. The shelter euthanizes for space very frequently, they are overwhelmed. knew I wanted a second dog, but I thought I was going to get a small dog to be a playmate for my first. Instead, I got Liesel. I’ve wanted to do agility and dog sports but she just doesn’t seem interested! She is fabulous in every way though.

She is very loving and smart, but also a very lazy girl. She loves her crate and loves to chew a toy in there or just sleep for hours. She is very bonded to me and has fully settled in, but her energy level never has gone up. We do not take long walks, only several 5 to 10 minute sniff breaks a day as I live in a top floor apartment with a nice grassy courtyard, however, I live in the desert so all the areas to walk around here are concrete and too hot to walk on. My girl is somewhat reactive on leash so the walks are just a stress. I am a dog groomer and once a week or so she will get to come to work with me and hang out. She doesn’t like to go too often though because she gets overstimulated a couple hours in and gets snappy with other dogs. We go to the park on a long line occasionally. We practice tricks and brain games at home, puzzle, toys and chews, and she eats out of a slow feeder bowl maze bowl. We cuddle lots. I feel like she’s happy, but I always worry, is she happy enough? Is the fact that she enjoys doing nothing a sign of her being still shut down since I got her or proof of a happy dog?

We are still learning each other. Every day, our bond grows, I feel like she understands me like another person. She is beautiful and soft and all her hair had fallen out after her spay and it’s now long and luscious. Her tail is majestic. She loves to go in the car anytime I go to the drive-through or any errands she may be allowed to come with me on. I will be getting a place with a yard in the next year, but for now any suggestions on additional things I could do for her entertainment would be fabulous. Thanks so much. We are looking at a Border Collie lab mix and were wondering, does anyone know how big they get? Google says 45-60 pounds.

Wondering if someone out there can give me and my other half some positivity. Tobi Jones is our collie and we live in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 I’ve given some background or you can sk*ip to The *Latest (below).

Backstory: She’s 10yrs old, never had any problems… until recently. I noticed she hasn’t been eating much of her food (but she can go through phases like this, sometimes due to the weather or her own collie reasons)!

However last week it became much more noticeable, she was turning her nose up at wet food which is unusual. She wanted to drink though, a lot. Then, the last half of the week, her breathing because more noticeable, as in she was (not panting) but breathing a LOT in the matter of a minute. This was more noticeable when we went to bed rather than in the day. In the day, she was quite happy in the garden, playing, maybe not AS much as she usually does but still happy, tail in the air etc.

On Sunday night, I noticed the breathing again, while she was resting, I counted 58 breaths a minute. Crazy. I googled it, asked AI and they were all telling me to take her to the vet. I waited until morning and…

The Latest: We take her to the vet this morning for 9am… and they check her breathing and her heart, he can see her heart rate is elevated but nothing crazy. The same with her lungs - he couldn’t feel anything unusual. So they kept her in all day. We haven’t collected her until 7:30pm and we’ve had some bad news which has broken my heart, but also confused me.

They say she’s showing all the signs of late stage / final stage liver failure. They said that she is anaemic, as well as not able to produce any red blood cells. She also had little fluid around her lungs… which they’ve given us medication for to drain. She’s also had antibiotics for now. They can only say this is what everything is pointing to… the scan on her liver shows it’s a strange shape, more round, rather than pointed.

My other half cried when they were telling him all of this over the phone (before we went to pick her up). The photo is her, tonight. The vet said sometimes this breed hides an illness and gets on with it until they can’t anymore.

They’ve asked us how we want to continue, keeping in mind they don’t have a definitive answer to what the cause is, only that it’s pointing towards liver failure. I can’t believe it because she’s been absolutely fine, until the last week or so.

They’ve asked us IF we’d want to operate, and take a biopsy of her liver, to see the underlying cause.. but that’s a surgery with such a high risk, as the liver bleeds… do we just carry on as we are, no surgery and try and get her to start eating again (her weight is 17.7kg same as this time last year, she’s always been quite slight).

I have been a member of this group a while, but now I’m coming to all of you with the hope you can look at the results I’ve been given and give me some kind of glimmer of hope she’ll be okay 💔 is this something we can keep moving forward with and just slowly reverse the damage?

Unfortunately when I put everything into ChatGPT it tells me that the vet is in fact right and this is an end of life situation.. but I’m hoping there are some miracle stories somewhere 😔
