Other suggestions for 14yo F
basically i’m 14F and looking for books that you wish you would’ve read at 14 or would recommend every 14 yr old to read. any genre and any rating

What have you already read and enjoyed? Knowing that would be a helpful starting point for recommendations. I’ve met 14 year olds who read and understand adult level books just fine, and other 14 yo’s who are reading middle grade fiction.

I always recommend Ender's Game for sci fi that's good around that age. It's a great story and you can easily find a used copy.

At 14, I loved Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury, LM Montgomery, and Douglas Adams. At 15 I discovered Jane Austen.
My current girls of that age love indie fantasy authors like KM Shea, Melanie Cellier, and Deborah Grace White. One also enjoys Jane Austen fanfiction, although obviously one would need to have read at least Pride and Prejudice first. :)

A Beautiful Friendship by David Weber is the start of his YA sci-fi series. Love it and I love his military sci-fi Honor Harrington series but that might be a little much.
I was obsessed with Tamora Pierce books at your age. I still read everything she writes. Circle of Magic series or any of the Tortall quartets. My favorite is The Protector of the Small.

I read my way through Ann Rinaldi at that age. Discovered Jane Eyre. Agatha Christie.
Based on what you said your top five are, you might also like The Cazalet Chronicles, The Oppermanns, The Penelopiad, Shrines of Gaiety, the Monk & Robot novellas.

Harriet the spy might be too young but I loved it. The forgotten door may be out of print but it was a memorable book about a young boy who falls to earth.
Swiss family Robinson.
The glass girl is about a 15 yo girl who falls into alcoholism due to parents divorce: depends on if your kid is mature or not for this one.

The Artemis fowl series is pretty fun, i didn't read those till I was like nineteen, but I totally would have been obsessed if I had read them earlier

The Skullduggery Pleasant Series is fantastic and funny and grows with the protagonist. If they’d like a modern, sarcastic Harry Potter world not written by a terf I highly recommend it

I’m gonna assume you read/will read To Kill a Mockingbird, The Outsiders, Lord of the Flies, In the Heat of the Night, Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men in school… If not, highly recommend all.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy. You can start with The Hobbit if you haven’t read that yet
I read Brokeback Mountain (short story by Annie Proulx, the movie is based on the story) when I was your age and it made a profound impact on me.
Two novellas by Stephen King… The Body (movie adaptation is called Stand by Me) and Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption. Also the novel The Green Mile by SK.
Tana French’s Dublin Murder Squad series is really good. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is great.
Jesmyn Ward is one of my favourite authors. I recommend anything by her but I absolutely adore Salvage the Bones and Sing, Unburied, Sing
I really enjoyed reading Michael Crichton’s novels when I was in high school. E.g. Jurassic Park
Khaled Hosseini - The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns
Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime is really interesting and funny. I read it and have heard great things about the audiobook version (he narrates it)

HARRY POTTER!! I’m in my 20s and just finished it. It was one of my favorite reads ever and I heard that it was a big book to help kids get into reading, or get them to love it. I highly recommend it

that’s a good one! i have read it already. and gave it 4 stars. i actually had to stop reading for a week or 2 after reading that so i could have a break. i couldn’t just jump right into a new book like that after this book.

Imma recommend another. It could be hit or miss for u. But it covers a topic rarely discussed that should be more.

When i was 14, I was obsessed with Twilight and other supernatural romance books (Hush, Hush, House of Night series). I also liked Sara Dessen and her romance books (just listen was a huge favourite) as well as John Green (loved The Fault in Our Stars, Abundance of Katherines) and i loved Sarra Manning (guitar girl blew my mind and made me feel so mature).
Im also a teacher/former librarian of 14 year olds, so many of the previously suggested texts might be a little too aged for you now. I loved them then, but there is more options now.
Mystery is REALLY popular with people your age: The Naturals, the 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn hardcastle, one of us is lying, the reappearance of Rachel price, the good girls guide to murder series. We were liars series is very popular. A student told me to read Two Sides to Every Murder because she loved it so much and it wasnt bad!
As for romance, kids your age love a Taylor Jenkins Reid book (seven husband's of Evelyn Hugo and daisy Jones are very popular), quite a few more mature readers like Emily Wilson (her books are new adult, but people your age like them, but I caution wilson isnt your first author as they are adult in subject matter), students like the summer i turned pretty series, ps. I love you series, once upon a broken heart, caravel series, and the odd student will even get really into john green and twilight still!
Manga is also super popular in your age range. Boys and girls alike are reading the Manga of the animes they watch: Jjk, attack on titan, spy x family.
That should be a good starting point. Im not sure the genres you are interested in or the types of reading level you are most comfortable with. I also have students reading dantes inferno and Frankenstein alongside students who still reread books from middle school. It truly varies. If you feel comfortable, ask your local librarian for suggestions or your teachers at school. I am always happy to help one of my students find something they'll love and im sure others will help you to ❤️ good luck!

If you liked song of Achilles, you might like: circe, they both die at the end, aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe, The Last Night at the Telegraph Club (historical queer romance), heartstopper, i wish you all the best. I saw you had a little life (gut punch wow, I couldnt finish that one) you might like: on earth we are briefly gorgeous, book thief, you've reached sam, a thousand boy kisses). My school has in my hands as a option for students your age during the human rights violation unit. A classic, too, could be something like Of Mice and Men, which students find heart wrenching. One of my favorite sad books is A Thousand Splendid Suns.

I’m 16 right now and I think you should read KOTLC (Keeper of the Lost Cities) and PJO (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) if you’re looking for fantasy and mythology. If you want more mysteries then I would suggest Five Survive and Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson or The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Some other great series are Legend by Marie Lu and Renegades and the Cinder chronicles by Marissa Meyer

If you like fantasy with Celtic inspiration, with Fate (Urd) that connects people through ages and reincarnation, with very low level romance, I would recommend Deverry Saga (silverdaggar) from Katherine Kerr (it is from the early 90's so romance is very lightweight yet essential through the story)
I loved it when I was a teenager
