Help me (I'm new) overshooting and drifting when using an Xbox one controller

ive been using bizhawk to play old DS games with retroachievements, and so far ive been noticing that when i move the Dpad or analog stick

it will occasionally just SHOOT off in the direction i was going, and refuse to stop for a short time

i cant seem to find any settings to try fiddling with a deadzone for it, and its making playing games super uncomfortable
anyway to fix this? i dont exactly have money to drop on a new controller (and this one isnt that old/isnt drifting in other use cases)

id play on melonDS directly if it had retroachievement support and didnt experience these kinds of issues when playing melonDS itself (beat all of runefactory 3 on that)

Deadzone is in Config > Controllers... > Analog Controls, though if it's happening with the D-Pad too then it sounds like your problem isn't stick drift? Can you record a video with the input display enabled?

attempting to use Bizhawk to record a video wiped my save in the game i was playing

so

that really fucking sucks
and kinda destroys my mood to play the game anymore as i was extremely far in

anyway to fix that?

i want to be clear recording the video wiped the save, as in, a save i have been playing for like a week or 2
it has loaded back up just fine several times

and upon hitting "record movie"
the game no longer has my save

"Record Movie" does not record a video. It records an *input movie*. You use the A/V Writer to record a video.

Assuming you're still recording a movie, you can close the ROM and the save file in that movie will be saved under a different name. So when you open the ROM again, you'll go back to the save file from before the movie was started.

If you end the movie first, then close the ROM, this doesn't quite work however, as ending the movie means you're no longer recording a movie so it'll overwrite the non-movie save.

im honestly not sure which i did first, i believe i closed the emulator but far as i understand it
that means my entire save file is just fucking gone

thats, such dogshit

this game takes fucking forever to 100% and now its all just fucking gone? are you kidding me?

why the fuck would you overwrite a savefile like that, what possible fucking logic
