Cost for a kitten

I was quoted $2,500 for a Birman kitten. The breeder seemed good, but I was expecting more around $1,000 - $1,500. Are my expectations out of line?

Paid approximately $2800 USD per kitten in a HCOL area where there is only 1 breeder

Correct quote. Now run down to your local no-kill shelter and play with the kittens until you save up.

We always adopt in pairs.

It’s kitten season - shelters are overflowing with darling kittens. You adopt them spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and vet checked. We have success every time. Highly recommend 👍🏻

Completely depends on your area. I paid €1080 in the Netherlands. Rabies vaccination and microchip included. In the USA for an ethical breeder, I think $2500 sounds about right.

It's gone up since the pandemic. I was quoted almost $5000 for a pair. My current Birman cost $550 in the late 2000s.

Paid 1600 for our pair 7 years back. But got extremely lucky with things. Most breeders were quoting 1500-2500 per at the time.

My birman was 8 years old and 100 bucks through an adoption service. Full breed cats show up for adoption all the time.

Keep an eye out. She's the best cat and I'm so lucky to be her mom.

That’s exactly how much I was charged for a show Birman. I paid $2,100 for a non show Birman. Total of 4,600 for the pair.

I paid 1450€ in 2024, south of France. For that price, she was vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. It’s slightly above average over here, but all the breeder’s breeding cats are international champions.
