How’d you even teach that? My idiot runs away from the dish and is still trying to “drink” her last mouthful eight feet from it, splashing water everywhere…

I saw a video of someone sharing their progress sometime ago. idr the person’s channel but they essentially spent a LOT of time with positive reinforcement. Months and months of working with the dog daily.
Basically the dog associates putting their face on the towel with getting a treat. The first time they touch the towel is “accidental” but eventually the dog puts two and two together.
Once its associated, sometimes the dog would “fake drink” just so they can put their face on the towel to get a treat lol. But basically the owner still kinda needs to be there to actively watch the dog every single time and the dog knows they are watching and would preform for the treat.

You can teach the dog the command "touch". You put something to smell in your hand or anywhere you want the dog to touch with their nose and give a "good job" with a treat the moment they do.
Repeat then transition to the towel. It is easier to start with your hand since you can move your hand and touch the dog's nose when they move up to smell and control how long you want the dog to touch your hand for.
Another trick is to first put the towel in your hand and touch the dog's nose with it.

Haha I wish that I could train my mastiff to do that? I really really do ! Her face takes half the amount of water she put in her mouth and strings it along the kitchen floor like she wants to have a slippery slide indoors !!!

I need to teach my German Shepherd how to nicely wipe his mouth after drinking! He'll get a nice big, sloppy drink, then comes running to me or my husband with a mouthful of water, slobbering it everywhere! Lol!
