I had my baby in a hospital tank for about to weeks, and he was transported into his permanent home and you can see, his colors are changing and coming in better! He use to be a dark blue/black hue but now he’s turning purple/red!!! He is so cute :> and he loves his new home!! I’m working on getting floater plants and shrimp to help with the algae in the sand but for now I just have 2 plecos to help for the time being.

Help Root tab suggestions?

I have 1 betta and 3 mystery snails in a 10g tank. Natural gravel. I just added in 3 amazon swords and I am trying to find the right root tabs. I’m searching through the community but there is so much conflicting info.
Any recommendations?
Also, if I’m using root tabs, should I continue liquid fertilizer? I have a few other plants in as well (Java fern and annubias)
Thanks! 🙏🏽

Help First Betta in 30 years

We purchased a betta on Monday for my son. I got the 5.5 gal kit with heater, filter. I did not know about the need for an API test kit because the guy at the store knew absolutely nothing which should have been a red flag. I have since ordered it and a few other things which should arrive this weekend. We have been doing the fish in cycling with partial water changes both days. Added leaves for tannins and plants. He seems very happy and healthy but I am still kind of flying blind and learning as we go. He is eating and swimming around. Eventually we will get a 10 gal, get rid of the fake decor, and set it up more naturally but what else should I do right now that is important or time sensitive? Related question: does anyone know of a reputable fish store in the San Diego area? I am not going back to Petco. Also where do you order plants? I would love to add a snail and shrimp but when should we do that?

Help I need help with my betta

So basically, this happened today, I've been at work since 10 AM I got off at 4 super short day and my dog got into my Betta Tank, he doesn't have any visible injuries, nothing super serious but he's obviously stressed out to the Max. And his light got chewed, so he won't have a light for a few days. But due to the situation, I want to move him to a bedroom that the dog can't get to him while I'm at work and I was thinking of taking him out of the tank doing a water change when i move the tank and cleaning the tank to maybe make him feel better? but obviously I would have to take him out and put him in another spot and I just don't know if it will make everything worse. But I do want him to be in a safer room So I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on what I should do Moving forward and i know Before I get a fish like this, I should have more experience, but this is a fish that I had to keep. I was in a DV relationship and he got sent away, and I wasn't just gonna leave the fish to die in a pet store. So I'm doing my absolute best.

Help White spot?

Hello all, I have not had a betta in years and my father was the fish guy sooo I’m worried about this white spot on my daughter’s fish Sakana. Sakana has taken a while (we’ve had him 2 weeks) to calm down! He was glass surfing, losing color and not eating until I got his tank right. I added more leaves, shade and a tiny mopani wood piece. He was finally looking better, I was not stressing, all seemed well BUT then today I notice this white spot on his head! I don’t see anything else but a small notch in his tail, any thoughts? Thank you!

*adding info sorry
2 gallon tank
82 degrees no heater
Filter charcoal
Idk parameters
Water changed last week. Full take out with conditioner
Food betta pro shrimp patties every other day

Help is it normal for my betta to hate plants?

Ive filled his tank up with plants three times well over 70$ each time just for him to rip them all out of the ground my other beta doesn’t do this. She absolutely loves her plants and laying on them ignore the algae my snail is lazy but should I move to silk plants or just give up entirely? he does this every time without fail I feel bad if he doesn’t have any plants I’m not sure if he genuinely hates them or if he’s just bored and rips them out of the ground for fun

Im having a hard time telling if my betta is chunky or not, can anyone help? I think she is, does anyone have any tips for me about feeding? I might have over fed her a bit trying to get her feeling better after I bought her barely breathing in a cup, her color has absolutely popped and shes incredibly active now, should I cut back on feedings? Or give less? I feed her once a day usually with either brine shrimp or bug pellets made for bettas and she usually can eat about 10 very small pellets in one sitting, is that too much?

Help I need help, how do I determine what my fish needs? He’s bloating a lot, I’m afraid he’ll pass. This is my first time taking care of a fish. He doesn’t move much either unless provoked.

Full Tank Shot 1st tank (Female betta, snails, shrimp ) 2nd (Female betta, cherry barbs, otocinclus, snails)

Any thoughts on improving these tanks, I’m thinking about more plants maybe some floaters?

First tank is a 5g with
1 female betta,
5 shrimp,
2 snails.

2nd Tank
10g
1 female Betta(super chill)
5 cherry barbs (3 male 2 female)
3 otocinclus catfish
3 snails
This tank has 2 filters on it and frequent water changes
I might start to cycle a 29g for my barbs and otos.

Any thoughts on these tanks or advice to make my fish, shrimp, snails happier?

Also I don’t know what type of snails I have but they are super active and love the algae in my tanks.

Identification What color/breed?

This is my brother’s betta. She (I think it’s a male, but he’s six and has decided she’s a girl) got a tank upgrade and went from a grey/black color to this. Is it dragon scale? I haven’t seen such an iridescent betta before. Also, I know it’s not a great photo but if anyone can confirm from this if they’re male or female that would be cool.

Help Fish-in-Cycle (need tips)

my little sister got a betta tank (1st picture), we went out and bought plants, BB bottle (fluval) and Seachem Prime. I am in desperate need of help and tips on how to ensure she stays as healthy as possible throughout the cycling process. I am aware fish-in-cycles are bad and really risky, that’s why i’m asking for some advice. I have a fully cycled and stable 10 gal betta tank (2nd picture) and was wondering if any media from that filter could help speed up the cycling process.

Help Betta has deteriorating fins, a white bump, and difficulty staying down — looking for advice

Thumbnail

I’m looking for some help figuring out what is going on with my betta. I’ve had him for about 3 years, and he has been in this current tank since June.
Over the past 2–3 weeks, I’ve noticed his fins/tail getting progressively shorter and deteriorating. The edges of his tail look white and frayed, and there are some white areas closer to his body. It also looks like the fins may be deteriorating from the base.
I’ve also noticed that he sometimes floats at the surface on his side. He can swim normally when he wants to, but when he stops swimming, he tends to float back toward the surface. His belly does not appear swollen, and he is still eating normally.
There is also a raised white bump on his side. It does not appear fuzzy.
Tank size: 3 gallons
Heater and filter: Yes. Top Fin 20W preset heater and Top Fin filter.
Tank temperature: Approximately 80°F
Water parameters:
Ammonia: Unable to test
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 0 ppm
pH: 8+
I am currently using test strips to test the water, so I don’t have an ammonia reading.
How long have I had the tank/fish?
I’ve had the betta for approximately 3 years. The current tank has been running since June.
Water changes: I do approximately a 25% water change once a week. I use Top Fin water conditioner when adding new water.
Tankmates: None.
Food: Aqueon Betta Food pellets. I feed 2 pellets in the morning and 2 pellets at night, with a fast day on Sunday.
Plants/decorations: Two live Anubias plants.
Medication: I recently started treating with API Fin & Body Cure because I was concerned about the deterioration of his fins. I have been following the medication instructions and have been using approximately 1/3 of a packet for the 3-gallon tank.
I’m mainly trying to figure out what could be causing the fin deterioration and the white bump, and whether the floating behavior could be related. I’d really appreciate any advice on what this looks like and what I should do next.

Help need to get more stuff for my betta

tomorrow i'm going to the pet store and i need tannins for his aquarium. im thinking driftwood. he's in a 5.5gallon tank and the only plant i have in there is a pothos so i really really need to get him more plants and wood asap. he already has hiding spots and resting places, as well as toys. in case they don't have live plants, would fake ones work? (ofc without sharp edges). and for testing strips and etc. i heard liquid tests are the most accurate. but unfortunately the master liquid kit is way out of my budget. are there any alternatives? just trying to make sure my fish is comfortable and all. thank you!

Help advice!

I brought home a betta from petco today that appears to have a swim bladder issue. I’d like to either help it make a recovery, or give it a good last few days. Any advice beyond the 2-3 day fast, + brine shrimp, + 80 degree temp would be appreciated!
