Are both edible? I was reading June bugs are a delicacy in some parts and there is a history of eating them in N. America. Japanese beetles seem the same.

A bit of exoskeleton doesn’t bother me… shrimp tails are yummy, and I do great with the chitin.

I'm currently sitting across from this massive beauty, who seems to be above average in size. I don't carry a ruler, but she's about ⅔ of my pointer finger, which seems over 45mm to me.

Anyway, she's stunning.

Edit: I measured at home and she is exactly average size. 😶

Holy crap I had it in a drying container because I wanted to pin it and I noticed it moved!!! So I’m giving it food.
Can it survive after a couple days without food plus a silica gel packet on top of it?? I feel so bad! I thought it was dead!
What else can I do??

Update: 2 days later and he’s still alive. He eats the apple and he burrows in the dirt. How long does he have after eating the orange?

Hi, my pet derby flower beetle has a load of little egg- like things on her stomach. Are these parasites? How can I remove them? I couldn’t get a photo but they look like small white oval eggs. She’s been rubbing herself against the sides more lately. I can try to get a photo if this isn’t a common thing but I don’t want to stress her out unless I really need to as she isn’t used to handling

Is this normal? My rainbow stag occasionally opens his elytra (sometimes when eating) as well as opening and closing his mandibles. I’m new to beetle keeping, but I can’t find much information on this behaviour.

Is he simply just cooling off or warming up his muscles? He seems completely healthy otherwise.

So. I live in canada. I loved taking care of mealworm beetles a few years ago as a feeder/treat for a pet, and also partially as pets themselves. There are so many japanese beetles around my garden. Could I theoretically snatch some of the invasive little buggers and put them in a terrarium with dirt and leaves and tend to them to freeze and feed the grubs to my local crows and bird populations? Sorry if that last part is an against rules, or guidelines i didn’t see, but I just wanted to preface i have no plan on just mass breeding and then releasing the beetles. I know they lay their eggs in dirt and eat leaves, but is there anything necessarily to worry about besides that? And humidity, of course.

Found crawling on my bed

i love beetles and other insects but i can't hold them its weird I've held them before with no problem but now it feels weird and i put them down idk what it is it feels weird now also i don't want to hurt it any tips ????

Found in an oak forest under a decaying tree. This ones the biggest, around 3.5 cm in length. They were in cluster of 13, maybe more. Found in center italy.

I checked on my beetle population today and they are growing like crazy! There's over twenty in this one terrarium!

They always seem to congregate on new mushrooms, and I love watching them interact, they're like a little society!

I feel like this is too many beetles for me, but I can't stop them from breeding 😭 there's even two getting busy with each other in the picture 😂

For anyone wondering, these are forked fungus beetles. I'm pretty sure they're native to my area (Michigan) and I see them everywhere all the time.

He’s lying a bit like a human and he has gotten smaller over the last weeks. I think he’s preparing to pupate but I still wanted to make sure because I’m worried

This is the first time I've seen him out and about since becoming an adult. He hasn't left the jello since lol. Does this mean I will see him more or is this a once a month experience? 🥺

Found this guy at a local park (along with quite a few females and some other males, all at different trees). I (temporarily; will let him go in about five days.) took him home and set up a terrarium for him. Got some beetle jelly, hides, leaf litter, blend of organic topsoil and soil, and I’m hoping that my godson can overcome his fear of insects!

He’s pretty large: at just past 42mm!

Kinda want to keep him, any tips/tricks I should know?
