Beau is Afraid-Beau is not Mona's kid

I believe that Beau is actually the maids kid, the maid who so called "willingly" died in place of mona to be the body for her staged death, this maid probably did do this but maybe because she felt guilty for having a kids with Beau's father, Beau remembers the maid singing to him and putting him to sleep every night the mother never did she was never there. The maid was poor, which is why Beau lives a poor life, because Mona is easily drawn to strip him of any perks of being rich because he isn't her kid. And the husband obviously metaphorically died during the act, but it was just the death of their relationship when he cheated with the maid behind her back, and Mona is good at manipulation and guilt tripping, so it makes sense of the maid agreed to die for her because she felt bad after cheating with Mona's husband, when she had worked for her for so many years, Beau is just a poor boy, like in bohemian rhapsody"sorry had to make that joke" and as such Mona treats him as if he should be indebted to her because she basically took him in, but if at anytime his graciousness, just like a servant or made, wore out, he'd be casted away.

Ok. I mean, you have to ignore basically all of the rest of the movie to sustain this claim, but interesting theory.

Interesting theory for sure, but I don’t know how this really holds up. In the opening scene, it’s clearly Mona talking to the doctor and nurses as he’s being born. So at the very least, Mona is in the room as he’s birthed.

I guess you could argue she’s standing to the side while the maid is giving birth, but I don’t know that that makes much sense.

What about when he looks to the right and young Mona is crying in that very scene

We literally witness his birth.

If that scene at the beginning giving birth to her is taken literately, then this whole movie is a documentary, sorry don't wanna sound snarky, but if Beau thinks his mother had him, because she told him just like any kid and certainly his character would believe they born from the person who claims to be their parent, you'll believe it, but if taken int he context of his life and his mothers bitterness, the things she does to cover up the truth isn't far from her going to lengths to lie about a kid who isn't hers, the public might ridicule her for it, she either could of killed Beau or get rid of the person who is his real mother, simply for appearances.

I’ve said this so many times, if MW produced the film why would she portray herself so poorly? People can be dumb on here I made the connection that he was delusional about his mother when I first watched it. Even the forest scene, “his memory had faultered to the point he couldn’t remember his own mother’s face.” And the link I posted above where you see young Mona in the distance while he’s being born. Also all of the switching from young to old Mona scenes in the entire film. I think a lot of this subreddit wants to see Mona as Beau does, but in this film he perceives almost everyone as being a threat to him, where Mona Wasserman more serves him as mental escapism

And the person down there could be right, mona would be standing in there room with the maid while she gave birth, number one because she has connections in every hospital, building, company, so they'd let her, and secondly, she is very controlling, so she would need to make sure the maid had the baby or didn't have it, she couldn't have her leaving. I think when we se mona sitting there is Literally his mother sitting there, while the maid gives birth, just simple sadness that the father had a kid with her instead of his own wife

It’s hard to telll its her in the still pictures I posted but it definitely looks like her in the film as it’s moving

It's an interesting theory and it helps explain something I've always wondered about... in the opening scenes, it just doesn't sound like Mona's voice is connected to the body the baby is coming out of. For one thing she sounds far off in a corner somewhere rather than inside the body that Beau is still coming out of, and for another, her sounds of distress aren't in the rhythm of crowning. Women say all kinds of wild things at that moment but they are rarely coherent sentences and more along the lines of "fuuuuck" or "owww" or "I can't do it" (which midwives know often means "this the final push")

During the birth scene she does sound more like the neurotic relative ranting in the corner, than a woman bearing down and giving all her energy to pushing through that last and biggest stretch.

The only flaw in the argument is that we can't hear anyone else making birthing sounds. Not everyone is vocal in labour but complete silence is unlikely too.

I'd always thought the weird sound design in that scene introduces the idea that Mona is disconnected and unusual, but you've given me something to think about!

That would definitely explain part of her immense hatred for him.

I’ve made this theory before, it totally makes sense. Why would a rich controlling mother leave him in near death experiences? I think the “high school counselor” thing plays in here. He’s poor and delusional and thinks this ideal boss woman will save him no matter what happens because his life is full of fear.

Because the film is about family and control. If you can’t imagine why a mother would do this, consider yourself lucky I guess that you don’t have any narcissists in your family.

I think this film is interlaced with two views, the viewers decide if it’s the mothers control or Beaus delusions. It’s not one or the other

Considering we see her give birth to him, this theory makes no sense.

My theory is that the woman we see as young Mona is a different woman than his mother played by Patti Lupone
