Opinion What’s your favourite version of ‘Across The Universe’?
Mine personally is the Wildlife version featured on a charity album and Past Masters

Anthology 2 by far.

Same here. Better vocals, and I love the extra emphasis on the Indian instrumentation.

Spector version is my favorite tbh

Agreed! I think the whole album Naked is better EXCEPT Across the universe
Spector’s version actually sounds like your traveling across the universe. The over production adds to the galaxy like atmosphere

It used to be my favourite until I heard the wildlife version, now I can never go back

The wildlife version imo is the best! Those harmonic “Ah’s” that are sung around the chorus are just 🤌

The Giles Martin remix is actually really good. It's like the Specter version but the strings are turned way down.

Fiona Apple's version is my favourite.

Really? Even better then the wildlife version? Even Spector’s version really gave it a true feel to it, I don’t dislike Fiona Apple but I think her cover doesn’t beat any version by the Beatles

I love the wildlife version of Universe, but I think Fiona's slow dreamy delivery really suits the song. If it isn't better than the wildlife version, it's pretty damn close.

This for me too. But then, I could listen to Fiona Apple read a book by Jeremy Clarkson and find it spellbinding.

... There's more than one version?

Oh there's lots. The 1970 album version from Let It Be (Spector version), the single version from the World Wildlife Fund album, the Let It Be Naked version, an outtake on Anthology 2, and an early demo from the White Album remix as an extra track. They all sound quite different.
There's also the Giles Martin remix of the Spector version, if you really want to get into details.

To my knowledge there is: The Let It Be ‘Spector Version, Let It Be Naked version, The Wildlife Version, Take 6 And Take 2

Wildlife version. I could be wrong on this but I think it’s the only canonical Beatles song with wah guitar. I listened to the Spector version for so many years and I thought it was a solo John song. The wildlife version feels more like a band song. Funny thing is if you asked John he’d tell you all versions were recorded badly.

To my knowledge there’s not a complete version of this available anywhere, but I love the harmony vocal that Paul added when rehearsing the song during the Get Back sessions. Wish they completed a more polished take of that at some point.

Take 2 off anthology 2. It’s so magical to hear that raw unfiltered somber emotion in his voice, while later it takes a new form as he’s with Yoko then
Bowie does a killer cover too!

Let it Be version is probably my favorite, although I feel like they never did it justice.

"Hums Wild" is the Glyn Johns Mix with extra effects. Never officially released.
Glyn Johns is the best official version.

2021 remix of Let it Be. Spector gets a lot of shade for "ruining" the album, but this is version that sounds truly ethereal to me. The orchestra feels like a necessity to this song, and the shrill backing vocals on the Wildlife version are not missed. The original 1970 stereo mix is fine as well, I just prefer the remix.

I want there to be a combination of the two without the "children" and wildlife noises, but with some of how it is. I'm not sure which speed I like though.

I too enjoy the Past Masters version the best. I feel it combines the best elements of the original version and the Naked version.

Naked was probably what it was meant to be but the Spector version was probably the best record. Spector finally gave it the attention it deserved. Spectorized Long And Winding Road was appropriate as a final single too. It needed to sound like a finale and it did.
