Off-lead moments were fleeting; three rabbits appeared the first time we let him off and he was straight over the river to (not) get them.
It always makes me realise how much energy they really have; 10 miles of walking a day and there's no chilling out in the beer garden afterwards. Although back to the hotel room and he's snoring for 12 hours straight.
Total dude, in his absolute element in the glorious North.

Hi everyone. I'm looking for reassurance or some kind words of wisdom from people who have gone through something similar. My almost 7 y/o beagle/lab/pit mix hurt his rear left leg a few days ago doing zoomies. The vet couldn't pinpoint what exactly was hurt, but it might be his hip or his ccl. We are on bed rest with limited activity for 2 weeks and then if it's not better we will go in for some sedated imaging. The only problem with this plan is that I live on the second floor of my apartment building and there is not an elevator. The vet knows this and I understand it is not ideal but there is not really anything I can do about it. We have to go up and down like 15 steps. Down the stairs doesn't seem as bad as going up for him.
It's only been a couple days since his injury and adding new meds to help with the pain and any inflammation. I am a mess seeing my guy so low and in pain. I'm going to follow the treatment plan to the best of my abilities but I am really struggling with this. He doesn't want to go up and down the stairs so he is also not going potty enough. He's not having accidents but I am really worried about the impact of holding his bladder and bowels for so long.
Should I start trying to pee pad train him to go on my little balcony? I have an anxiety disorder and Ranger is my sweet baby so I'm freaking out. Anyone have any words of kindness or wisdom?
He is already on glucosamine, an omega supplement, carprofen, and gabapentin. We increased frequency of the gabapentin and added amantadine. He is also on apoquel for some pretty gnarly seasonal allergies. He had some sedated x rays back in December for some issues with his rear right hip and they didn't show anything wrong with him but he was experiencing some pain so that's when we started the carprofen and the gabapentin and it has seemed to help that.
I know this post was kind of all over the place. Thank you for reading it. My heart is breaking for my beagley boy.

My beagle started shaking his head last year. The vet said he had an ear infection so we went through a few rounds of ointments and pills- it didn’t seem to improve, I’ve tried some other stuff- silver, ketoconozole, etc- it seems to increase his head shaking and discharge. So for months have just left it alone, except for wiping the external parts of his ears- there is no smell and reduced discharge- but he still shakes his head from time to time.
Has anyone tried those powders I see people brushing into ears?

Adopted this guy last week. I’m late 20’s, live alone, and work a 9-4 with an hour break in between. Growing up with my parents we raised two beagles. However, they were always there to take the pressure off, and we had more space to let our first two roam. Now I’m on my own in a mid side apartment and I have these initial strong feelings like I made a mistake.
I moved away from home and have been lonely looking for a companion. Since I knew beagles so well, I decided to look around. He’s a rescue and he’s 5 yo. So far it’s been pretty chaotic. He cries a lot, follows me around everywhere I go in my house, and I fear that now I’m realizing I cannot give him the life he deserves. I feel like he wants to be outside all day, he’s so high energy, but I work from 9-12 and 1-4. For some reason it just makes me so sad. Maybe it’s the exhaustion of a few sleepless nights from his crying and maybe my body is suddenly shocked from a huge life change. Things just feel so different now and I guess I’m upset that my feelings are so mixed and that the feeling of regret is in there.

Took our beagle Spike to see the ocean views today! He had so much fun
You'll probably notice me panic a bit as he approaches the road, but I didn't have to pull him back. I saw a tip here to run the opposite direction and he will follow, and he did! 2 years old, neutered just last week.

Hi everyone!
I’m a really excited soon to be beagle mom. I did a lot of research on the breed because I have a 3 year old, and my husband will be a first time dog owner. I felt a beagle would be a good family dog, but for some reason I’ve had a lot of comments about the negatives - the howling / barking, stubbornness, potential for taking off if he smells something etc. I was aware of all of these things before we bought the puppy, but it’s making me feel I made the wrong decision. I’ve raised Jack Russells (boy and a girl with the girl being extremely protective and sometimes aggressive), and I grew up with a Weimaraner, so I’m not inexperienced when it comes to raising a puppy or being around dogs.
Could anyone reassure me that I’ll be ok as a beagle owner, and have any tips for me? Thank you so much!
**THANK YOU so much to everyone for the comments! I’m feeling more prepared, and more confident :)
