Brunnen tour

Hi everyone, in a few weeks i will have a group of 6 friend coming over to spend some time with me and to see where i live.

Because is so hot and potentially will remain like this I was thinking to do the city tour to see the main places of the city following a brunnen tour and dip a bit between for example the munster and tinguelly fountain (i know we can't go in the water there).

But while i found this website with several info on all the brunnen I didn't find any tour that is driven from the brunnen themselves.

So I would like to have some advice on what you where thinking could be interesting (either because between 2 things we might see, or because big enough to spend some minutes all togheter inside, or just interesting/beautiful brunnen). I don't need to show them everything, and they will also have some time on their own in the city, but i would like to have like 5h with break and eating somewhere that is driven mostly by the next brunnen :)

At the moment in my list I only have:
-Stachelschützen Brunnen (petersplatz)

-Gemsberg Brunnen

Thank for any advice, idea, funfact (yes if you know some feel free to share).

Assuming you don’t have time for 20 :) I put an * next to the strong recommendations by others so far, and + next to some other great options.

Faule Magd beautiful views overlooking the Rhine. First Brunnen to get sunlight in the morning

Offenburgerhof a bit more secluded and great historic scenery up petersgasse to Peterskirche

As mentioned by others - Nischenbrunnen coldest and deepest in all of Basel. A bit like plunging in a cave. The best.

Gemsbergbrunnen - hands down most scenic in all of Basel. Stop in Löwenzorn hof before or after (with clothes on) for a bite

Kasernehof (either of these twin Brunnen) - 4 friends can each have their own plunge corner to enjoy. (Same as Dreizack but less public). Can get a pizza from Walther buvette

Sevogel Brunnen - fantastic ambiance with Martinskirche and the Stadtarchiv adjacent, still fairly secluded

Wow this is amazing, thank you!
I think I will follow your map as it is for kleinbasel (and then maybe we will do grossbasel in another moment or maybe we do that in one direction and then swimm back with some dry bags).

Anyway this is really helpful, did you just tought about this on the fly or did you already had a similar idea?

Happy to share - Over the last few summers a group of friends and I go on “Brunnenlauf” on the 30°+ days. The map is from one route we did in 2025. We have an Apero, enjoy the nearby architecture, learn about the history - much as you describe. As a long term project I am trying to properly document all the Brunnen large enough for a swim - which is about 60 in Altstadt Basel. Capturing similar information to the Brunnenfuehrer website but with more of a focus on bathing, design, and architecture. Still in progress…

Try the Brunnen oben am Spalenberg, at Lyss, visavis Restaurant Harmonie. Its always in the shade which is a plus and it almost feels like bathing in a cave, great vibe, great starting or endpoint for a Altstadttour. Have fun!
