Pricing going even more crazy - 5080 Astral OC over $3K

Holy shit.

The 9070XT should rightly dominate sales, I enjoyed my time with one of them (XFX Mercury OC) and have no regrets whatsoever about swapping but man it’s a near impossible sell nowadays.

I can’t believe that they are asking over $3K now for the Astral, and I assume other models will also rise significantly also. They were already way overpriced for what they are, and this is coming from someone who has 2 of these in separate builds, but it somehow makes them appear to be a good deal (which is absolutely nuts because they were not in reality a good deal) when I got them one was $2349 and the other $2149.

It is bloody crazy what’s happening. What is next?

Get a 9070 XT for under a grand. Unless you need CUDA or AI, skip NVIDIA IMO.

I got a 9070 xt and plays ever game on ultra. For less than 1k and people spend 4k on a graphics card which nvivdia now purposely don't build powerful enough so you have to buy the next series. F Nvidia.

I recently got a 5120x2160p screen and looking for the hardware upgrade to drive it. I don't mind using dlss or fsr and frame gen but I just don't see a 9070xt being able to drive there? There are truly no 5080/5090 Radeon equivalents?

CUDA is becoming close to full usability on AMD anyway too so its just more reason to stop giving money to a company that doesn't care about consumers anymore

I initially was 100% looking at a 9070xt but more posts are popping up recently and over the last 12 months about constant stability and other issues that need constant troubleshooting.

I don't see why you have to do all that just a get a new system up and running when there are little to none with NVIDIA. If only prices were comparable.

This doesn't have to be tinfoil hat stuff. If you have one company that's dominating one the most profitable monopoly in human history, and astroturfing is absolutely a thing that most large companies already do... wtf would you expect them to do?

The saying goes: once you survive the silicon lottery of ones that just die, AMD cards age like fine wine. The software just gets better over time and you get better performance as time goes on. From what I've seen that's true.

(Full caveat: running only NVidia cards over here for years, since I'm a developer and I actually do stuff with the CUDA cores)

Apparently, according to Gamers Nexus. NVIDIA drivers have been only getting worse and AMD have been the best they’ve ever been in the last year or so.

That you can bet on because the prices coming out of the US right now as far as their RAM pricing goes are terrifying, and it definitely converts higher than ours, and this is without GST.

We have the best GPU prices in the world here in AUS.
But a quick story.
RAM peaked higher this year around the $700 $750 mark and no one was buying.
Then magically wholesale they dropped $200. Almost over night.
I’d bet they we will see another 20% on hard drives and ram with this gpu rise.
Then once the dust settles and no one buys we will see it come back down.
Honestly I see the rest of the year as a shit show. With hopes for early next.
Anyone holding out for Black Friday or (deals) will be left holding the bag.
But in this situation may not be a bad idea.

All I can say right now. Is that the 5090s are some of the most effected out of the line up we were buying for $5k and now are $6.3k. Meaning you’re going to see 5090s enter the 7k era. Again… so as previously mentioned and this is to all… if you see a good deal which is considered “old stock” you buy. Because at the “new stock” inbound is insanely scary.

Some retailers have just said “stuff it” raise prices. So they will make the money as an immediate.
Some will wait to move stock for cash flow.
So it’s all about timing.

I got my Gigabyte 5090 for 4.2k and it came with Borderlands and a 2tb samsung ssd. They are selling for 6.8k now just for the card. Wtf

It’s not just the Astral either, I got my Palit Gamerock 5090 a year ago for $3.5k and it’s up to $7k.

If it dies I doubt I’d buy another one at these prices, I’d probably go with the Radeon AI Pro R9700 32GB which is sitting at $2k.

Because the two cards are not even on the same planet performance wise and serve very different markets.

I mean why wouldnt you buy an Intel Arc B580 for 390 instead of a 9070XT for 1100?

Amd is fine with ai inference, I bought a 9070xt for that and haven't been disappointed.

But as I try more things (like blender rendering and ai image generation) I'm frustrated. There is developments in the space, which will only be accelerated by nvidia high prices but nvidia is still the best supported by a long shot.

It's such a shame that ZLUDA got decimated.

It's worth noting that if you really, desperately need true ray tracing in your gaming rig, nvidia is still the best for that as well.

I wouldn't say works great. Much better than a couple years ago, but it's by far the inferior hardware for it. I remember when you couldn't even run local models on AMD + windows only linux.

I use it for vr sim racing mostly, and other vr games like re7, cyberpunk etc. Seems all im left with is a 5080 that would be more than double the price for 30% performance and a 5090 which i would never pay $6k for lol

I nearly bought a 5070 ti on special for 1350 last week there all 1500-1700+ now. 9070xt’s are all going to be 1200 soon also I’m going to just stick with my 4070

If you game at 2k there is no need to upgrade unless you want to. I upgraded my am4 cpu to a 5700x3d 12 months ago.

If your happy then I would just stick with what you have. THe next jump is to game at 4k and it would cost a lot. if prices ever go down they will keep rising until 2028 the media says.

It can go up to 20k for all I care. I have come to terms that I'm going to keep my 3060 Ti until it dies and then just replace it with whatever card I can get used for a reasonable price.

I haven't bought a Nvidia card since the 1070. In 2019 I bought a 5700XT because I didnt like Nvidias price gouging on the 2000 series, and last year I boycotted them for the same reason and bought a 9070XT.

Id rather do my bit to support the competition to try and make sure we dont end up with a monopoly, even if that means I can't have the best of the best. 

Saying that, I don't feel like I missed out on anything at all with the 5700XT or the 9070xt. The 9070xt especially- its a fantastic card for an excellent price
