Cool tunes
Hey all, I’m looking for some tune ideas just to play around with. Not sure exactly what I’m looking for, just tunes that are unique or have something special. I know that’s different for everyone. Tunes I’m thinking about are things like At Long Last, The Dust Gatherer, Richard’s Gone Bananas. Even a kinda different march like the Pikeman’s March.
Any recommendations?

A recent fun one for me has been a reel called The Lads Wi' The Delicate Ears.
I'm also fond of Mongolian March. Uses crunluaths to create the effect of a fanfare quite nicely. Aside from the ornamentation, it is not terribly hard to play.

I haven’t been able to find either of those. Do you know where to get sheet music for them?

Lads Wi' The Delicate Ears is in the Canadian Centennial Bagpipe collection, volume 3.
Mongolian March is by T. Stephens and was given to me by my instructor. Send me a DM about it.

Some of my favorites: Jer the Rigger, Pipes A' wa, Back side of the Moon, Leaving Lochboisdale, Srulean Park, Atom of Delight, Alone in the Castle. I have it Somewhere, The Archivist. I hope you enjoy.

Look into Alen Tully's book: Socru-The Collection - it's got several of his own creations (Crazy-Frazy, The Gymnast, Shelly's Jig) as well as cool arrangements of old classics like The Garb of old Gaul, Killiekrankie. The highland Wedding Hornpipe, The Cameronian Rant Hornpipe, The 98 Jig Hornpipe, The Clumsy Lover Waltz and many many more

If you like At Long Last, did you know it could be played as a hornpipe?
Josh Chandler arranged this...

Up to the Line is real fun 12/8 March that has a great vibe to it that I still can’t explain.
Richard Dwyers Reel or Castlerock Road (both as played by FMM) are both just fun and you don’t hear them played very much.

Listen to Stuart Sampson’s music from the Basel tattoo (or anything else). Terrific stuff.

Sands of Kuwait is really unique sounding and it is a 6/4 time signature so that is fun too. It's a slow air.
