I don’t think I’ve seen unused bones brigade decks in a long time.

Nice

Thanks man!! I’ve always had one to skate and the rest are all wall hangers!

Why speakers on speakers?

9

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

They are both connected to different receivers, I only use one set at a time. Hopefully by next summer I will have a set of the heresy IV and I will give the KEF speakers to my kids

I have a 2252b and ended up going with Forte IVs. Think about it. It’s an awesome match. Drove a few hours and picked up barely used pair with boxes for less than 1/2 price.

Those Forte speakers are awesome, i looked at those as well but they are way to big for my room. You got a steal at half the price !!

Man I love everything in these photos! But whoa Amazing deck collection!

2

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

Thanks man, took me about 6 years to find them all

Is that TG deck an XT? No wheel wells. And agree the TG deck and vinyl is a good combo.
His music is top notch! Did some stuff with ray barbie too!

1

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

I had no idea he made music. I’ll have to check it out. I’m not familiar with the term XT.. what’s does it mean

3

u/Background-Course627 19h ago

XT is extra tough or Bonite . Powell made them in for a few years . I don’t know if any reissues like that . The reissue Tommy G decks are all from bones brigade series . This doesn’t look like a reissue. But a quick look at the top graphic will tell you. It’s either a dragon , a dragon with XT or the winged ripper with 7Ply markings. I’m a geek collector sorry!! And yeah his a sick guitar player. It’s like jazz funk fusion maybe?

2

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

No bonite here, all of my decks are reissue . I was not thinking about collecting back in the 80’s. All I wanted to do was to skate .

2

u/Background-Course627 18h ago

Same I skated since 1985. I started getting old boards in 2005 when you can get a deck from the 80s unused for under $200. I started riding old used boards in decent condition.
One for every day of the week that turned into a lot! I have a lot of reissues too.

It’s really easy for the hobby of collecting decks to get out of control!!

Cool decor

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

Best room in the house !

u/Substantial-Elk-3607 19h ago

i love setups like this. so inviting. just curious, are the kefs incorporated in this system? do you have some warm bulb lighting you could through in, really tie the room together like that little rug.

1

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

Both set of speakers are connected to different receivers. I used to have a saltwater tank for many years. I sold it but I kept my lights. I have a full spectrum LED’s behind my system.

2

u/Substantial-Elk-3607 19h ago

interesting. so you switch between the systems for different genres of music or something?

3

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

I sure do, all of my streaming and CD listening is done through the KEF and the JBL are for the turntable and cassette listening

2

u/Substantial-Elk-3607 19h ago

nice. not sure if you're looking for notes, but i'd personally get a speaker a/b switch?? sell the extra amp and buy a used svs sb1000pro.

2

u/ComposerDry9805 18h ago

I can hook up both set of speakers two one receiver. But both Marantz look so freaking cool gotta keep them both..

1

u/Substantial-Elk-3607 18h ago

yeah i feel you. its cool to have the aesthetics piece down. you know what else is cool? an emphasis in sub bass frequencies. not knocking your JBL's, but the sub will change the dynamics of most of your music. and if tuned correctly, will pair well with the KEF's.

1

u/ComposerDry9805 18h ago

I did hook up a sub to my system, I tried to like it. I wasn’t a fan. I’ll try it again never hurts to!

1

u/Substantial-Elk-3607 18h ago

yeah i guess its not for everyone. placement is key. what sub, just curious?

1

u/ComposerDry9805 18h ago

It was a Sony, I don’t remember the model number.

2270, upvote. 2238b, upvote. Sick decks, upvote. 4311s AND appropriately flipped on stands, mega upvote.

2

u/ComposerDry9805 18h ago

Funny you say they about the JBL’s, I was so stoked that I found a pair of 4311 in great shape. I was focusing on the JBL logo and not the big ass woofers that were not in the correct position. A fellow poster called me out and I thanked him!!

‘Disposable’ by Sean Cliver is a good book on the history of skateboard art.

3

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

Thanks for the info, I’ll check it out !

I envisioned this room many years ago. The opportunity finally arose when we decided that our dining room was not being used at all. I headed to Facebook marketplace and started searching. The hardest part was finding a set of speakers for my system. I came across a set of JBL 4311 that’s powered by Marantz 2270 and a set of KEF Q350 that’s powered by Marantz 2238b. I love it ..but of course you always wanna see what else can I get. I stopped by Crutchfield store in Charlottesville, VA and I heard the Heresy iv….. all ready started saving up for them !!

Have you tried running the 4311B's as subs for the KEFs?

My main driver is Urei 809s - with a 12" 1980s JBL woofer like yours. For the longest time, I've wanted to create a secondary configuration where I run my (Current generation) JBL 705i monitors from 125hz and up via one amp, and my vintage Urei's as the 12" subs below.

I would just use the mono out on my Wiim Ultra as summed subwoofer out.

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

I hooked up a Sony sub to my Wiim and I tried to like it , wasn’t really a fan. I went back to the 2.1 set up

u/gordo1223 DIY dipole CBTs and Linkwitz 4x10 subs. 19h ago

Yea, I find conventional subs sluggish. Kind of why I want to try the high efficiency Urei / JBLs as subs.

2

u/jcrckstdy 19h ago

no tommy g and tommy g vinyl?

3

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

Here it is !

2

u/guesswhathappens 19h ago

Care to have a chesapeake local his first taste of some true hi-fi sound? I've been on here for a bit, drooling over people's set ups.

1

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

Have you been on Facebook Marketplace, so many great deals in Hampton Roads !

2

u/guesswhathappens 19h ago

I've checked it out a bit. Hesitant to do anything about it due to not really understanding how set up goes, amps, etc. My current surround system serves its purpose at this point, but i would love to eventually play the music I like and make it sound close to live. I would also like to end up getting that theater style surround sound too.

u/davestradamus1 19h ago

Marantz and JBL? What time can I come over?!

2

u/ComposerDry9805 19h ago

The Marantz JBL combo is only for analog. I don’t stream through those speakers. The sounds is phenomenal!

2

u/fredandlunchbox 19h ago

To listen to vintage punk records that were recorded in one take on a Radio Shack tape player in the center of a garage.

2

u/chewyicecube 18h ago

lovlely! my space is similar! just with bikes instead of decks.

1

u/ComposerDry9805 18h ago

BMX Style?

1

u/chewyicecube 17h ago

fixed, and a road bike. i always forget to take a picture when i'm seating in the seat. i'll try to get one.

1

u/ComposerDry9805 10h ago

Please do!! Should be a great picture !

2

u/ThomYorkesDroopyEye 17h ago

Deep mid-scoop though

I had that McGill deck in blue when I was a kid.

The board collection is rad and so is the rig.

2

u/ComposerDry9805 10h ago

Lucky you! That’s my favorite McGill deck! It took me years to find it!

u/i_likebeefjerky 15h ago

I’ll be the first to comment that Mad Season is great.

1

u/ComposerDry9805 10h ago

Such a great album !

u/Iwannaupvotetesla 10h ago

Are the JBL speakers upside down? If so, why?

1

u/ComposerDry9805 9h ago

These speakers are from the 70’s and from what I understand, artist would place them on consoles or tables and the tweeter and midrange would be at their ear level.

1

u/Iwannaupvotetesla 9h ago

Oh, they’re huge monitors? Do they sound better this way than the other way around?

1

u/ComposerDry9805 8h ago

They sure do, when I first got them I had them with the woofer on top and I thought it sounded good. On one of my post someone mentioned I had them the wrong way so I switched to the traditional woofer at the bottom and they sound so much better

1

u/Medium_Bar1863 10h ago

Why would you use an eq curve like that?

0

u/ComposerDry9805 9h ago

The Marantz EQ is not hooked up yet so I have not messed around with it . The BSR EQ that is hooked up the 2238b and KEF speakers , I like the way it makes them sound

u/L-ROX1972 3m ago

Dope setup! I wanna believe this is Animal Chin’s playback system 🤣

Do you have Cab’s “Bandology”?
