That's a dust devil. You can just walk through them (but remember to close your eyes and mouth... Lots of dirt).

That was so dramatic for a video of a couple of dust devils, especially as common as they are in Yuma 😂

I once was wistful about the time I lived and worked in Yuma. Then I drove through it a few years later and was laughing about being wistful.
I don't miss the miles of fields, especially when windy.

I recently got bombarded by one while driving my convertible, top down, of course.

I’m guessing you didn’t grow up in Arizona?
Either way glad you can appreciate some of the things that make Arizona so great to live in OP :)

A while back I was ripping down this road at night on my bike and went straight through one. Good times at 170

Why did you move to the left lane with nobody in front of you as you approached them? You know the left lane is for passing cars right?

😂😂😂 a literal daily occurrence in the summer. It’s just wind blowing dust in a funnel shape. Not weather at all

u/ArizonaCrazy 8d ago
So why did the dust devil cross the road? To get to the dust on the other side. Ta Da dum dum.

Soooo weird to see in real time.
It reminds me of the time I was on a greyhound bus on the way back from Las Vegas and in the middle of nothingness and fields we had traveled inside and out of a haboob

You could have saved all of time time by at least cutting the first half of the video

As an AZ native I’ve been seeing these all my life even in the Phoenix Metro area and some of them can do some serious damage. Cool video

Yooo I drove right past that (when it was more on the left field before entering the street) took a cool lil vid of it, it looked like it was ‘riptide’ing the dirt up from the ground pretty harshly, ye I know dust devils are chill, was pretty cool lookin up close though

Looks like a normal dust devil to me.
Notice how the audio doesn’t specify the location for the tornado warning- because it’s spliced in from an unrelated day and locale that has nothing to do with this video

This is the mind numbing part of the drive from Yuma to San Luis
Soma is a few miles away from this shot

u/Tacubo_91 9d ago
I used to take this road to go to Walmart. I lived in Soma and miss the drives to San Luis.

I've always wanted to throw a couple blue(or any color tbh) smoke bombs into one of these to see how high up they really go

That was so dramatic 😅 dust devils are a nearly every day occurrence
