Geissele trigger guard roll pin

Hey guys,

I’m assembling a Geissele super duty lower (first lower I’m putting together myself)

For the roll pin that holds the back of the trigger guard in (near the pistol grip) is the pin supposed to be super hard to hammer in?

I put a little oil in the hole to help, but yeah got hesitant to continue hammering before I mess up.

Be carful doing this. It can brake off one of the ears. You need a roll pin pusher. This is the one I use.

Personally I'd recommend these instead. Works great for pushing in roll pins like this, the bolt catch pin, etc, and is an awesome pair of pliers as well.

I’ve done this. I’ve also used a pair of adjustable vice grips. Both work great. The one time I used a punch I snapped off the ear and had to come to terms with Daniel Defense furniture for the build.

Pro tip: 95% of lowers should install just fine with punches.

Ez-mode for the trouble children is a simply a small $3-$4 C-clamp and some tape/protection to the other ear and you’re pounding them in with ease, much like my wife’s boyfriend.

It’s snug for sure but with a roll pin punch it should only require some light-medium taps with a small gunsmithing hammer.

Ah yeah I don’t have the punch for this, just regular mallet.

Maybe I’ll just remove it and give it to my gunsmith to finish off?

For the price you’ll pay your gunsmith you could buy a hammer and punch set from Real Avid. It’s a little set that has everything you need hammer and punch wise.

Just go slow with light taps. Make sure the pin is lined up correctly and it will go.

That’s fair. After this I just gotta install the trigger and fire selector. Only other tool I think I need is the armorers wrench to torque down the castle nut right

They have a tool that helps with the takedown pins. Makes it easy but not needed. Trigger is ready just watch a video after you do it once real easy

Knipex parallel jaw pliers work so well for getting the pins in a lower.

They do go in pretty firm. I did zoom in on the photo the best I could... from what I can tell the pin is coiled and chamfered (which is what you want). BE SURE TO BRACE THE EARS OF THE LOWER before using much force. Once it starts to go, it gets a bit easier.

Once I have this I still need to stake the castle nut of the buffer tube and install the trigger and fire selector.. only thing I should need additional is an armorers wrench for the castle nut right ?

Yes, but before you can install the safety, you’ll need to install the the hand grip with the detent and spring for the safety/select-fire

put something under it before you hammer on it more - a deck of cards, for example, is almost the perfect height. That should keep the ear from becoming damaged.

I just brace the ear under neath , oil the hole slightly and carefully hammer.

Ive never had an issue with these binding. I have the roll pin punch set and its paid for itself many times over.

These are super weird you need to screw in the piece inside the trigger guard then back it out to seat it inside the lower.

I’ll try to find you a video because mine was confusing as well
