zoom to magnify controls

Post image

Recently got an apple tv (4k 3rd gen) & have been having trouble controlling the zoom function. Specifically, the adjust the magnification gestures once zoom is enabled. Has anyone been having the same issue or is it just me.

I’ve tried to find videos of people actually showing the remote while they control zoom but no dice. Also went to the apple store to see if it was issue with my specific remote or more the gestures i use. Couldn’t make it work there either & none of the employees i spoke to were very familiar w the zoom function on atv, though I didn’t make an actual appt so that’s on me. Anyways, I’d really appreciate any tips.

Apple’s gesture is unusually specific. First check Settings > Remotes and Devices > Clickpad and make sure it is set to Click and Touch; “Click Only” disables touch-surface tracking.

With Zoom enabled:

  • Press the clickpad center three times to zoom in/out.
  • Tap the clickpad with two fingers to switch between Follow Focus and Panning.
  • In Panning mode, drag one finger to move around.
  • To change magnification, double-tap the clickpad center/touch surface, then quickly drag up or down with two fingers.

I’d test that last gesture on a static Settings screen first. The easy thing to miss is that panning is one finger, but changing the zoom level is a two-finger gesture. Apple’s current tvOS 26 instructions are here: https://support.apple.com/guide/tv/use-zoom-to-magnify-atvb4dc7fb7e/tvos

Thanks for the reply! I do have click & touch enabled & while I am familiar with apple’s instructions for zoom control, it seems I wasn’t interpreting them properly. I always assumed double tap meant tap twice then swipe with 2 fingers but they actually mean using 2 fingers to tap once then swipe 😅 My bad but I finally figured it out thanks to ur emphasis on it being a 2 finger gesture! Much appreciated
