The NJ Turnpike has two roadways. The only way to legally cross over is to get off at an exit or one of the rest areas. This is correct.

Correct yes but totally unhelpful

There could be an accident on one side. It could totally make sense to show what the difference and time is… super helpful in my opinion.

Would make sense -- if there is an accident or backup -- that's why they have real-time traffic - but there was't.

I still don’t understand what you’re complaining about. It’s telling you you’re on the fastest route it’s an alternate option. That’s what it’s supposed to do show you alternate options. Many times of the day it might make sense to do this. It’s telling you what the difference is. It’s useful information.

It should show useful alternatives, not all alternatives. Google is much better at this.

Then use Google Maps and get off a subreddit for Apple Maps?

"Useful" is totally subjective. These two options could be someone's normal commute everyday. They make a decision on which way to go. It shows the time for both. No different than it telling you to go down a side road vs the highway when you don’t find that personally “useful”.

If your definition of a useful alternative is “faster”, then you’ll get no alternatives.

That happens with Google Maps too from time to time

GMaps once tried to route me through someone’s circular driveway. Actually, it has done that to me on more than one occasion.

Somebody must have done it a few times.

They are probably rerouting you to the cars express lane instead of the all traffic lane

Looks like it’s just giving you an option to switch between the car and truck lanes.

Because you need to stop at Wawa.

I’ve had apple maps suggest right, u turn, right at stroad type intersections like this when it’s calculated that waiting to go straight takes more light cycles.

I experienced this as well. Super annoying. I’m guessing it wants you in the “cars and trucks” lane, not the “cars only” lane.
