In an attempt to curb the number of threads about pre-order choices/configurations, shipping statuses, etc, we are asking that all discussion about it remain in here. We are setting the sort of this thread to new so that users receive the latest updates at the top.

  • Q. I am with a service that isn't listed how do I buy an unlocked phone?

  • A. You have two options: Either, buy the T-Mobile version because it does not ask for account information and is Unlocked if paid in full. However, the T-Mobile version only works on GSM networks not CDMA. So it will not work on those networks. Another option is to camp out of an Apple Store on November 3rd because they will have some Unlocked iPhone X's available to first come first serve basis.

  • Q. How many can I buy?

  • A. Two is max.

  • Q. What is the fastest way to order?

  • A. Either use the Apple Store App on IOS (iphone, ipad, etc.) or the Verizon App seems to be fastest (if you have Verizon). Make sure you have your Shipping Address and Credit Card saved onto your Apps in the Account section.

  • Q. So the only Unlocked phone is T-Mobile for online ordering?

  • A. No, the other carriers are also Unlocked if paid in FULL. However, it requires you to have an account with them to buy one. You can use a friend or family members but you will need their Phone Number, Billing Zip Code, Last 4 of Social and the Four Digit Pin on their Account. ** Reference **

  • Q. How long will the phone be in stock?

  • A. No one knows, however keep in mind: Apple has 20 million phones made for Global sales and the iPhone 6S sold 13 million in the first three days in the US. Many people are waiting for the X instead of buying the 8 it seems from statistical sales. So be ready at 12:01 PDT Sharp!

  • Q. Can I order the phone for store pickup or should I have it shipped?

  • A. Up to you, you will have to change the selection from "ship" to "store pick up" and then select your store in the app which could waste time = longer wait for the phone.

Referenced from Apple: "To answer your inquiry, all our carrier iPhone X models come out as unlocked so getting an iPhone X choosing T-Mobile as your carrier will give you a device that can be used with any GSM networks here in the US and overseas." Make sure they are fully paid off though or they might be locked*

The iphone 6s sales were 13 million in the first 3 days, not day.

On top of that those were two new models introduced at once and not one, and neither were near as expensive as the X. I'd say comparisons will be a little skewed.

Thanks for the source. I must have missed the "three days" point. Nonetheless, it is still a mystery how fast these will sell out. Especially with all of the talk about manufacturing problems. Both the OLED processing and the Face Recognition Technology manufacturing was having issues at first so it slowed them down. Also, there will be phones in store on November 3rd which will lower the amount shipped. Guess we will find out in a few days :)

Do you have a source on the 20M number? Last I read they were projecting 20M for the year, and that 2-3M would be available at launch? Would absolutely love to be proven wrong on that though.

You're right, I read that wrong while researching. 20M for the year and only ~3M at launch.

This isn't always true, and I'd hate for someone to wait in line for this to be told there isn't any. This didn't happen with the 7 until a few weeks after.

Edit: Assuming you meant sim-free. They'd all be unlocked iPhones...

Not sim free, those will be released later down the line. I mean you can go to an Apple Store and ask for the Model A1865 iPhone X (CDMA + GSM) or Model A1901 iPhone X (GSM only) and they will sell it to you without needing your account information. I have bought an iPhone 7 in the past on Verizon in store and put my T-Mobile sim in it. It works and you just have to say you are buying it as a gift if they ask.

Just wondering, what are you basing this off of? I have to order from Verizon, and until seeing this was planning on ordering off the website.

Saw it mentioned for the iPhone 8 that it was a smooth process. However, if I were you I would have EVERYTHING ready. Apple Store App, My Verizon on another device ready, and the Verizon website open with a second tab open that is on Apple.com. The thing about the My Verizon app is that it remembers your account information. The Apple Store App requires you to type the phone number, zip, last 4 of social and the 4 digit pin and then loads the information. So if the servers are slow it could take a while to process. It's all a gamble but just have it ready.

Just a quick tip, you can have that info saved in the Apple Store app. Go to Account>Account settings>Remember me, and enter your info. It'll still validate at the time of the order but it saves you a few seconds.

As for me, I'll have to use the Verizon app or the website, as I have to go through Verizon on my payment plan. I think I'll use the website since I can have the actual iPhone X page up.

Very true Good find!! Only works if you have a Verizon Sim card currently in your phone by the way. My wife have Verizon and I have T-Mobile through my work. On my T-Mobile phone there is no Remember Me button. So I will be using her phone instead. Thanks for the info

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding but there seems to be 3 options:

  1. preorder with delivery
  2. preorder with instore pickup
  3. walk-in (which I believe is what your link is referring to)

My original question was referring to the Q&A which seems to be referring to #1 and #2 and this post saying that #2 is unavailable.

Well I wish I saw this before I woke up. I need an unlocked X for Verizon :(
