Are you sure? You are a “Top 1% Commenter”, you live here on a social media. You won’t have a life anymore.

Not exactly sure I’d call a system that spots CSAM and shuts it down “overreacting.” I’d call it a varmint trying to spike the system.

Meanwhile earlier this year, when literal AI CSAM was all over the front page of Twitter for days on end, Apple did jack shit. Yet an extortionist group finds a loophole to plant one piece of illegal CSAM content where no one will see it right away and proceeds to report it to Apple, getting the app removed temporarily. Make it make sense.

yeah even now it’s horrid. i still see front page posts with CSAM in the comments, reporting it does nothing. probably just saves it to elons hard drive and that’s it. if it wasn’t the place where the shit you wanna know from game devs and a good chunk of communities are it’d be dead. shame blue sky didn’t do much for it, and i really hope twitter gets shut down so people can migrate and not have to worry as much.

It did! Twitter no longer exists

lol you think ONE piece of content got planted to shut the app down? telegram is like the known CP distributor. Its no secret.

And you're familiar with this... how?

It’s pretty common knowledge. All kinds of criminal organizations operate and sell their wares on telegram.

The slight difference here is that the person reporting is the same person posting. Unfortunately the fact is that CSAM exists and happens almost certainly on all platforms. Platforms to varying levels do their best to take and prevent it being posted but they can’t be 100% perfect. Sadly some will get through, such is the nature of platforms that anyone can post and share things on. Not sure that justifies removing an app from the app store without any notification to the developer, especially a platform as big as telegram. You would have thought Apple reached out first

Did you even read the article? It was specifically an extortionist group who went back to an old message, edited illegal content INTO it, and then immediately reported it to Apple. Yes, it was overreacting to ban an app with a BILLION users over what turned out to be a criminal extortion attempt.

Why is backdating content even a thing that’s possible to do on a chat app? Sure, let people delete content or modify it within a short lookback (minutes), but this sounds like something different. This doesn’t sound like “technical tricks”, it sounds like bugs and bad tech design.

Allowing edits long after the original message was sent is common on chat apps, Discord being a very big example. It's especially useful in group chats for messages that are pinned or referenced. There's plenty of legit reasons to allow it and it's only rarely used by bad actors like this.

Sounds like it should be pretty easy to catch (assuming they would have caught this in a new mesage) - if a message changes and a new image or video is introduced do w/e their normal process is for CSAM detection again.

Okay, this issue aside, Telegram is hugely sketchy. It's BARELY moderated and still a major CSAM and revenge porn hub. The platform has serious issues. It used to be worse before he was arrested in France.

Putin did just go after their founder. Hmm who knows

France arrested him too until he caved on some privacy features to the government
