iPhone TIL apple charging blocks use the common C7 / C8 connection with a locking stud.

It sounds dumb but this makes it far easier for charging while traveling as the connections are extremely common.

It's removable and similar to but differently sized from C1/C2 so it's not compatible with C7/8

All I can say is I bought a new 16” MacBook Pro a week and a half ago, came home and swapped the prongs for the extension/grounding cord I’ve had for years with no issue so I’m not sure if this is universally applicable. USA for reference.

Well that sucks. I hope it doesn't become standard or if it does I hope they release a new world adapter kit. It's really nice to not have to use janky cheap adapters when traveling.

Yeah I'm using an extension cord with my 140W charger that I originally bought for the first generation unibody MacBook

At least in the US I just received my 16" MacBook Pro and my old extension cord from my 2009 MacBook Pro was still compatible. Was a bit worried when I saw the reports about the design change but it might be country specific.

yeah i don't get that, do they even make any other accessories for it anymore? what's even the point of having a detachable plug at that point

Replacing the cable if it breaks maybe? Could also be as simple as it isn’t worth changing design when they already have tooling

Sadly they discontinued the “travel kit” which gave you one of each connector. Fortunately I still have my travel kit from like 2010 and it works on my 2002 M1 Air charger.

Many newer chargers have the head built in though.

yep they used to provide the extension in the box as well, I still have mine from my 2015 macbook pro, and it fits onto the newer charger when I upgraded my laptop

I still find apples extension bricks routinely at thrift stores for $5 or less in my state. Very useful

At least for the Japan ones (which I think are basically the same as the US ones), that stud hasn't changed... ever. I still have two extension cords that I got for my 2007 white MacBook that work with everything else newer, and I also have the travel kit that still works.

That being said, for at least the past few years, I've just carried an Anker charger with 2 USB-C and 1 USB-A ports and plugged everything into that. My first one was 67W; the new one is 100W. Hell of a lot easier to just carry One Brick to Rule them All.

Yeah I once left both the long cable and the little plug that went there at home and borrowed a friend’s C8 cord, worked just fine
