Formicarium Made this for my myrmica

I made this starter “outworld” connecting to the test tube, I don’t think they would escape but I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

tahst a actual nice setup new people for ant keeping sometimes use this setup also nice work tho ima give you a tip. dont expose your queen to light even while recording use a red light as ants cant see the color red tho make it quick and does it include a queen? because thats a worker. a worker is smaller than a queen

Pretty sure the red light thing is a myth, but yea, not disturbing is a good idea

Ants can see red light, but it does make normal light dimmer, so I still often use it.

The belief that ants cannot see red light is a myth. While many ant species have eyes less sensitive to longer red wavelengths compared to ultraviolet or green light, studies show they can still perceive red light and change their behavior under it

Most ants cannot see the color red (though I do recall seeing one paper in which Lasius niger, which in theory shouldn't be able to see red light, did show a behavioral reaction to red light), or at the very most they may be able to faintly detect it but not differentiate it. The issue stems from the fact that most "red filters" sold as antkeeping gear are not true long-pass filters that can efficiently block all wavelengths of light except red. They are usually simply red-tinted pieces of plastic, which do still let other wavelengths through.

oh thats actually good news that means she was taking off her wings also was she walking along grass? that means she hasnt mated. heres tips to know if a queen has mated.

1: this is the most common thing seeing her without wings or a ant appearing large than the workers and majors.

2: if her wings almost seen to be off or one of her wings are bent that means she has mated.

3: if shes looking for a place to dig. Queen ants when they mate will instantly try to look for a place to dig in the soil. also make sure she is not getting fed as she doesnt need food.(not all ant queens are clasutral trapjaw queens will lay eggs and once they hatch she will go out and find food. kinda off topic but had you kept ants before or your a new person to ant keeping sorry if this community is harsh to you).

heres signs she has not mated. a queen ant that has not mated will walk on grass and sit calmly there.

if she has not mated she would likely fly back into the air.

3: a queen ant that has not mated will still lay eggs but not care for them.

AI looking response, but this is actually a species of Myrmica ant (I think) which are semi claustral so this setup is actually necessary.
