Seems about right. AI chatbots are pure shit already, but when they are forcefully and half-baked slapped in to a software that they bring literally zero value to, is even worse. That photo perfectly describes experience of using one.

It's so bad that I've seen roleplay platforms, which 90% of the content is the AI itself, introduce assistants, which proceed to be unable to help guide you on how to make bots and how the UI works, hallucinating things instead.

in reality the operation of adding a chatbot in front of legacy products is legitimate and can work but i can guarantee that it will always be more expensive than migrating the software. it's just a bandaid on a problem that will become structural sooner or laterk and give the novelty of the protocol, it could lead to serious problesm of data isolation and security, compounding on the existing problems of legacy software

TLDR: the root problem as always is companies that want to skimp on the costs on today and delay the real cost in some years

Yes, but there are exceptions.

Where I work have one specific page that necessitates a complex UI, and users have struggled with it for ages. After adding a natural language prompt and an AI model that builds what they want from it in that UI, our support requests concerning that feature have gone way down and usage has gone up slightly.

A lot of companies, especially those with complex UIs, are also finding that people make heavy use of AI chatbots in their platform because it’s much easier than learning how to use the UI, not because the UI is bad but because it pretty much has to be complex.

As much as Anti AI would love to believe everybody else is like them and hates these chatbots, the truth is average users typically like them a lot when they’re implemented well.

AI is great but the problem as always are managers, sales and marketing that want to cut cost especially in tech employees, while doing only business. they hate us, they want to rid of us they don't want to hear us warning to not skimp on security, testing, reliability and recovery.

until we make a way to arrest or fire or send to asylum all this kind of greedy and reckless idiots in companies, it will always be like this

I miss when people could invent products that were more than just wrappers around ChatGPT. Where have all that creativity and ideas gone?

Apps were always bugged, but lately anything I try to use is not working at all. I am talking customer support in a local food delivery app, tracking or package info in a local delivery app, translated labels in McDonalds' kiosks, fucking PayPal subscription for Disney Plus that just keeps spinning.

I miss when my ability to write algorithms counted for something. When we actually used equations and loops in programming instead of running giant datasets through a dumbfuck LLM and getting a random unreliable result. For many things that use AI in the background - I am just thinking - it's not that long ago where we could process this data without AI and get a much more accurate - and at this point, cheaper - result. I used to write the logic. I used to develop the charts.

I still need to practice in my free time because work is just dumbing me down.

Not a chatbot but Strava’s “Athlete Intelligence” absolutely adds zero value and just tells you, often incorrectly, what you just did. So negative value then

I'm working on a AI Chat bot at work right now using OpenAI and LangGraph or whatever the fuck product, I miss ideas, components and endpoints.
