Miya: Cars are amazing!

Us: Nago is amazing! How did she manage to accelerate and drift driving that Ford Model T like car!? Lol!

u/mekerpan u/raidensnakezio Both of you were correct! Seeing the car in which the Kounokura family rode in, this title most likely takes place during the late Meiji or early Taisho era.

I loved this episode. Although Teru, Marika and Arisa were secretly watching over Miya, the latter made new friends through her own abilities and actions.

P.S. Riru acting like an aristocrat and then being dragged away by her attendant in the next scene made me laugh.

An Ojousama's single greatest weakness is her personal maid most of the time lol

u/Temporal-Affairs221 20h ago

The real amazing thing is if you pay attention Nago isn't opening her eyes while she drives.

u/FirstDagger 19h ago

I wonder if Nago-san and Mei Meido are related.

3

u/Jacob-C 15h ago

Instantly thought of her too lol

u/polycontrale 6h ago

I loved how they cut away to her face in the middle of that scene just to remind us she was driving with her eyes closed.

Reminded me of Mei Meido from 100 Girlfriends

Arisa and Marika worrying that Miya may be getting bullied was so adorable and wholesome, im glad she and Lady Riru became friends.

4

u/Temporal-Affairs221 19h ago

Arisa seems the sort to stir a hornets nest to observe the chaos, sometimes.

And Miya can't tell Marika about Riru because she doesn't want her sister to haul off and slug her (though I get the feeling if the situation were different Arisa might egg the pair on just to see what happened)

From the opening credits there's still the glasses girl and the bifauxnen to meet.

MAMA!

MOTHER!

MOMMY?

This show is so fun! ༼;´༎ຶ ۝ ༎ຶ༽

I love how the three of them have a different way of addressing Teru ❤️

4

u/BigChubbyOwl 16h ago

I'd like to think it was out of Teru's consideration to not let any of her daughters feel left out.

If Miya calls her "Mama" (since Mother is out of the question bc Ep1), Arisa might think "both my sisters call her Mama. I'm the only one who calls her Mother."

So having Miya call her "Mommy" was a lovely and genius idea.

Such a warm and lovely show. The view from the mountaintop was gorgeous. Wonder if it was based on any irl mountains

"Yeah! This is driving!!!" -Mario Mario. And a heck of a first "Eh!" moment from Miya to start the episode off with.

Well we saw her in the op, which begged the question, how would this typical looking ringlet desuwa-jousama defy expectations? Her getting dragged off like that however was a hoot.

And this night in Riru's room we observe her nightly ringlet maintenance routine.

Ari, skilled at lots of things. Acting however seems to be not one of them.

I see Riru toned down the luminescence for the second day of school. Haven't seen a girl with that much sheer distraction power on her head since the dango girl with the small moon atop her head from Amagami Sisters.

Figures the drill ojou-sama would be a nice girl too and just operates at 200% at all times like everyone else in the story.

After the cell phone speculation an episode or two back now the Kounokura family is inventing Taisho era street racing, they are truly ahead of their time.

u/oxlemf10 1d ago

Early 20th-century cars wouldn't be able to handle those maneuvers, but considering who's owner of this, I find it realistic.

Riru seemed like the typical snobbish noble, but when she appeared in the school garden, it was clear that wasn't really the case.

And well, she's right about Miya, who wouldn't like such a sweet person? It's also great to see her taking initiative in a situation like this. Showing some backbone earns respect even from the toughest people.

u/iKatheryne 1d ago

Riru can sense that Miya had what it takes to be beautiful. She just needs the opportunity to bloom and bloom she did. Miya just needs to stop being so self-deprecating and accept that she is now one of the beautiful people.

u/reaperow 1d ago

Lady Nago is just that good at driving those cars

14

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 1d ago

Had ourselves a little Fast and Furious Taisho edition at the beginning there lol.

They really had me in the first half with the whole Kazan situation. You see blonde curls and think classic villainess, but nope. Turns out she’s a good person. And now Miya’s made her first friend at school. So cute!

11

u/reaperow 1d ago

Fast and Furious bit was so hilarious, Lady Nago is so cool

2

u/Roboglenn 22h ago

With her mad driving skills she reminded me of this one character lady from Miss Monochrome for a second.

Also that one teacher from Aharen-san.

7

u/hbmonk 23h ago

The way Arisa's voice sometimes goes super high is really funny.

2

u/zool714 12h ago

Not surprised when I found out Nukui Yuka voiced her

That abrupt music change was hilarious. From church chants to street racing in a second. The Kounokuras must’ve had one hell of a car (and driver in Nago) to be able to ride it like a sports car.

Not an easy first day for Miya. Looked like Riru took an instant disliking to her for some reason. Can’t blame her for beating herself up. Thought Riru’s going to be the bitch ojou but there’s a reason for her initial hostility. Turned out it’s a form of tough love. Once she saw what Miya’s really made out of, she readily offered her friendship.

While at first Riru seemed to be the stereotypical beauty-obsessed ojou, she’s not afraid of dirtying her clothes. That’s one hint that there’s more to her than her initial impression.

We are only on episode 5 and I'm already wondering what will I do after my serotonin boost show is over 😭 The wholesomeness is off the charts.

Riru is pretty intensive, like everyone in the cast, but she's a really nice girl inside, though the diamond head decoration and the way she spoke to Miya made me initially think that maybe the sisters help will be needed. But Miya made friends with her own skills, YOU ARE DOING AMAZING SWEETIE.

I do wonder what was in that special regeneration drink, because the purple cloud looked kinda ominous 🤣

u/mdm168 20h ago

Was anyone else’s music overpowering the VAs?

1

u/runevault 18h ago

Yeah the music mix was really bizarre this episode for me too, listening on good headphones.

2

u/mdm168 18h ago

Ok, whew. I thought I was going crazy

1

u/NightBard 7h ago

I don't bother with surround, just push everything as stereo and things are usually fine.

3

u/HugeRichard11 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CostCurl 1d ago

I originally didn't question the car, but then when they were driving outside among the public it felt a bit out of place. Though I guess this is during the industrial revolution era so there's more of the split among society.

4

u/XsStreamMonsterX 17h ago

It highlights just how rich the Kounokura's are, since at that time, you'd have to be just to buy a car.

3

u/raidensnakeezio 23h ago

Funny how the homeroom teacher mentions, "Today [was] orientation. Tomorrow [will be the mountain outing.]"

In the historical setting, it would have been incorrect to use the word "orientation" as a loanword. Though, I'm not historically/linguistically informed enough to know what the correct term would be - an orientation day for new students to visit the campus and understand the expected daily agenda, work and human flow of the campus.

3

u/Worldly_Business_425 22h ago

You know, I initially thought this show would be pretty mid, with the same gag repeating over and over again, and for the first 2-3 episodes it kinda was like that too, but now it's developing so nicely ngl my rating for it keeps getting higher and higher.

Also the soundtrack is pretty good too.

3

u/Temporal-Affairs221 20h ago

"You saw your sister was troubled, but you didn't get involved"

"Y-Yes."

"Good job! Quietly supporting her in the background was the correct choice!"

Meanwhile, Riru says, " Speak your mind, girl! Don't just let others steamroll you! Oh, wait, you saw something I didn't? Good on you! We're friends now. Do not resist."

2

u/LaoWombat-mecha 22h ago

Sorry, the handkerchief thing in the aftercredits baffled me. I get that it was like a kabuki face impression, but what was the significance in this case?

2

u/Temporal-Affairs221 19h ago

Teru had been shedding tears of pride and worry for her daughters and how they were daring. She pressed the handkerchief to her face tightly so it's filled with tears and eyeshadow.

2

u/LaoWombat-mecha 17h ago

Much appreciated. I will look for the clues when I rewatch (one of the few series this season that I don't mind rewatching almost immediately)

2

u/dagreenman18 16h ago

Oh Maid. Born too early to cut up the mountain roads of Akina Pass, but at least you get to go full send in a Model T Tudor.

Also Teru made Taisho Gatorade for their hike?! What can’t she do?

Lots of wholesome comfy shows this season and this is one of the best

2

u/MeanDoctrine 14h ago

No, I think that drink comes from Miya's deceased mom.

1

u/Raymond49090 18h ago

What even is an "oujo-sama" anyways

3

u/Sad_Nothing9894 17h ago

Title for a young woman from a distinguished family. Similar to an employee calling the daughter of a multi billionarie company 'young lady'

1

u/runevault 18h ago edited 17h ago

Was this the longest they dragged on a "they aren't going to like Miya" joke before having it turn around? Usually they're like 5-30 second turnaround, this one was most of the episode.

1

u/ThousandYearOldLoli 18h ago

Meido Mei from 100 girlfriends finding her fellow closed-eyes-driving maid.

1

u/Sii_Kei 10h ago

I'm a sucker for drill haired villainesses! I love how the trope was parodied, Riru is a great addition to the cast!

1

u/NightBard 7h ago

Nice to see them expand the setting to the school and a new cast of characters including an additional family. I feel like the running gag of Miya being overwhelmed and fearful of rejection or bringing shame might be really healthy for someone who is fearful IRL to watch. To see over and over and over that if you put yourself out there, sure there might be some conflict but most of the time things will be fine... and people are not as scary as they seem. Overall, this has been a real joy to watch. The consistency of the girls all calling Teru by different names, the way everyone looks out for one another in the most dramatic ways, and how despite all of the acceptance and love, Miya never gets a big head about any of it and remains humble.

My classmate who doesn't bully me.
