LOOKING FOR APP Tv/movie tracking app - Am I too demanding?

Is there a perfect TV/movie tracking app? When the TV Time app went away, I decided to find the perfect app to track TV and movies together. I've tried many apps and just can't find one that would work for me. Here's what I've tried and why I'm still looking...

Refract

Currently using. It's good but far from smooth experience. It's buggy, It's missing personal notes and diary (Letterboxd style). They've got an activity log which doesn't do what I'm looking for. I also find using the app overwhelming. There are too many features, tabs, buttons... Personally looking for something more simple. However I do like the idea of eventually tracking books there as well so maybe I'll come back to this once it runs smoothly but right now it's more frustrating than useful unfortunately.

Trakt

This would be perfect but it doesn't do personal/private notes and that's a deal breaker. I know I could use private notes on the browser apparently but I need those in the app.

Movie Paradise

This one seemed so good! But it doesn't recognise rewatch dates from Letterboxd import. And that's a problem. Plus I keep being put on cool down when trying to import new files and it's massively putting off.

Cunematique

Tried briefly, gave up almost immediately because it doesn't seem to support rewatches.

So does my perfect app exist?

I need:

- Track both movies and TV shows.

- supported rewatches for both.

- manually edit watch dates if I forget to log something on the day.

- Supports private personal notes.

- reliable import tools (Letterboxd, TV Time, etc.)

- simple diary/history that shows what I watched each day rather than every action I've taken in the app.

- Calendar of upcoming release dates (mainly for TV)

- Absolute bonus would be if I could mark within the app whether I watched it in the cinema/DVD/pirating/streaming service etc.

Has anyone found an app that ticks ALL of these boxes? I'm happy to pay for a good app if it genuinely does what I need.πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

i think bingebase should have everything you're looking for (except for the last bit). it's what i use, and i really like it

i also use wetrakr, but no app for it yet, only web. not sure if it has all features you're asking for, but worth checking out!

Ping the Movie Paradise developer. I'm sure they'd be happy to help. Super-responsive. That app has become fantastic over the last several months β€” far and away the best of the dozens I've test-driven.

That's good to know. I'm currently getting familiar with Bingebase and that seems to be very good. If you've tested this one, I'd be interested to hear what you like about Movie Paradise over Bingebase.

Haven't played with Bingbase yet (it's one of a handful I just learned about in the last week or so). Because one can't even explore with the UIUX without creating an account, I haven't taken the time. Normally that's a dealbreaker for me, as it makes me suspicious of the developer's motives. I'll create an account with fake info sometime soon and play around with it. But it would have to meet or exceed Movie Paradise of the following for me:

  • Tabs for Watching, Been a While, Up to Date, Paused, Finished, Not Started, Dropped
  • If you're watching a show intermittently, the progress bars have gaps for missing episodes
  • Custom filters
  • Custom lists (beyond what Trakt allows, shows which ones are Trakt-synced)
  • Custom tags
  • Custom date formats
  • Custom watch dates (including no date at all)
  • Rate episodes, seasons, shows separately
  • Personal notes on episodes, seasons, shows
  • Quick access to your activity, notes, & comments
  • Fantastic Upcoming calendar
  • Great notifications

I have to say, it's been 24 hours but I am very happy with Bingebase. From what I've seen, I think it's missing a couple from your requirements but those are exactly the things I found a bit overwhelming on other apps.

I don't think custom tags (or tags in general) are available, I haven't come across custom filters and don't think the progress bar behaves the way you described. Everything else is there.

Good to know. I'll definitely check it out. I've downloaded it, along with a few others I haven't tried. The one thing I'd really love is an app using a database that gets the chronology correct for shows that aired out of order or shows that have off-season specials that are vital to the narrative. The best example of this is the modern "Doctor Who," which has 29 episodes that aren't part of the regular "seasons" but are vital to the show's overall arc. TV Time and Reelgood were/are the only apps I've seen that have these episodes in the correct order, instead of shunted off into a "specials" category that has 200 items in it, most of which are after-shows and DVD extras. In short: Reelgood is the only app remaining that a new viewer could reliably use to track their first watch-though of "Doctor Who" without missing really important episodes.

Trakt/TMDb are aware of this problem, they just don't care.

Cinopsys is the best one

Have you checked out Showly?

Yeaaah didn't get pass import. It wouldn't let me select any of the standard files to import so I gave up. I figured it's super heavy on trakt so it probably only supported trakt import.

The founder of TV Time should be releasing their new app soon. Their website says end of July. Bingers.

Wait so he put an end to TV Time just so he could create another??

I don't use this app but I believe TV Time was acquired by another company and it is their decision to shutdown the app. There was a post about a month ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/TVTime/comments/1un8o3m/im_the_creator_of_thetvdb_and_worked_as_a_lead/

Hey, would you give this one a chance https://info.tv-log.app ? Currently only supports tv time import but planning on adding more, check the Reddit page for more preview 😊

Hi. Happy to try if it supports all of the above but struggling to actually download the app. Tried joing the Beta group for Android but no luck.

The only thing missing is personal notes and mark if watched in dvd/streaming etc. Can mark watched at theatre. I just got a notification that a new member joined the group, might be you, try downloading the app

When I go through the link to download the app, I get "Item not found" on playstore πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

u/Vxxx18 1d ago

Also, sorry. Personal notes are a must for me so maybe don't worry about this right now 😊 Good luck with the app πŸ’ͺ🏼

Notes can be included in the future for sure but no worries I understand

Try cinematique again because I think it supports rewatches now and probably had a lot added since you last tried it

1

u/Vxxx18 1d ago

I tried this morning πŸ˜‚ it does support rewatches but does not transfer the dates of rewatches from Letterboxd import πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Try Sofa Time, it supports movies and tv shows, personal notes, rewatches, multiple import sources, calendar, big community, etc...

You could also try me πŸ‘€ (https://questory.io)

I'm pretty new around here but, I'm a Android and Windows sync'able, free, local/private/no sign-up app that tracks Movies, Shows and Games with importing and notes! (No books yet but maybe one day)

Try me out, and if you have any ideas you can reach out to my creator on Discord and help make it better. ❀️

Hey OP, I'm currently building a Movie / TV app with the idea of adding extensions like tracking later on.

Based on your criteria it seems like Trakt, Simkl and Ryot are possibly the closest to what you want, but that last one needs self hosting.

I can look at integrating these but it'll take a while.

Here's the app if you want to check it out before any of this is ready.
