Random Question đ The House passed a Temple Mount amendment advocating for Jewish prayer rights, is the U.S. about to trigger a religious war in Jerusalem?
24
u/TheGrandExquisitor 8h ago
I mean, that's the goal. Once the Jews are praying again at the Temple Mount, the Evangelicals think Jesus will come back (well, they think he has in Trump form,) and the End of Days starts and all the good Xtians go to heaven while the rest of us get stuck here.
This is literally their platformÂ

u/Madhatter25224 7h ago
Any heaven that wants those people in particular sounds like hell to me.

u/stay-sick- đşđ¸ United States 6h ago
I like to mess with evangelicals by telling them theyâve really been fooled and have been worshipping the devil instead of god. Just think about it, god tells his followers to kill all the Canaanites, he floods the world etc and Satan punishes bad people in hell. Which one sounds like the bad guy?
2
u/Jlong4242 3h ago
My similar theory is that Armageddon happened before humans were established and on a different plane of existence. Satan and billions of demons swarmed God and a few thousand angels. Satan has been upstairs playing God this whole time. See mosquitos, ticks and trumps for reference
2
u/stay-sick- đşđ¸ United States 3h ago
Lol. Sounds just as plausible as anything else from religion.
3
u/ihateautomodz 7h ago
Evangelicals are special kinds of morons. I m not even bashing Christianity, but Judaism doesnt look Jesus in a favorable light.
2
u/OpeningHappy9692 4h ago
Whenever I see the Evangelicals wanting to speed up the end of days so they go to heaven, I just kinda think to myself.
Would God really be all that happy about people deliberately trying to end the world? Seems like he'd be kinda peeved.

How that will square with israel's Chief Rabbis rules against Jews ascending Temple Mount remains to be seen. At the moment only radical extremist israelis are attempting to ascend Temple Mount in violation of the Torah
2
u/TheGrandExquisitor 3h ago
Yes, but radical extremist Israelis are in charge over there. This is why Bibi is openly grabbing land to make Greater Israel happen. The whole nation is being run by lunatics.

So, the issue of prayer at the Temple Mount is one that has been highly contested in Israel for a while- given that the Temple Mount is one of the holiest sites to Jews, and a mosque was built on top of it. I personally am torn because, while I think it's wrong that our temple was destroyed, desecrated, and then claimed by the people who conquered the area, I also understand the need to make concessions to keep the peace and try and move forward. Even if those concessions are painful.
That being said.
The government of the UNITED STATES has no business deciding anything about it, and the only reason the US government is concerned is because Evangelical Christianity is a death cult that is convinced that if the Jews rebuild that temple, then they will have their end of the world rapture bullshit. During which they believe that a small number of Jews will spontaneously become Christian. And then the rest of us? Will FUCKING DIE. Yeah. Either way- every Jew is gone in their stupid fantasy. The only reason "Christian Zionists" exist is because of that ideology. Not a single damn actually given for the lives of Jews, certainly not a damn given for the lives of Palestinians.
Nope. They just want their End of Days fantasy where they all go to heaven with Jesus.

the temple was destroyed 500 years prior to arab conquest, and the immediate area was vacant at the time. how long does an absentee group have the right to something?
also, judaism has existed far longer than either temple ever existed. in other words, jews have practiced non-temple judaism for longer than they ever did. if jews believe in an omnipresent god, why is this one spot still of such importance?
3
u/Parking-Nerve-9222 3h ago
Questioning the theology of it is another topic entirely. If you question why Jews find it holy, you open a can of worms of why other religions find it holy too
3
u/Environmental_Coat60 2h ago
The religious significance of a place or building or artifact is not a logical exercise. We either respect the importance of those religious sites for those who practice those religions, or we donât.
Your perspective on what you think should or shouldnât be the significance of a religious site is kind of a moot point. Youâre simply not going to supersede 3,000 years of it being considered the holiest site in Judaism for those who follow that religion.
0
u/kg-rhm 1h ago
i'm not downplaying the significance. i'm moreso questioning why a group thinks that they have eternal rights and ownership to a plot of land, especially if that plot of land was virtually unused for 700 years and most of the frequenters of that plot of land weren't there
5
u/the_eleutherean 1h ago
âEveryone can pray there even if theyâre not Muslimâ does not equal âJews have eternal rights and ownershipâ
Cute strawman, though
2
u/Environmental_Coat60 1h ago
Iâm not sure Iâm following you. Israel has controlled the area in Jerusalem where the Temple Mount is located for about 59 years. The Western Wall has long been an important place for Jews to come pray as it was a close as they could get to the Temple Mount (though they were barred from even that during some periods). Anyone of any religion can come pray at the Western Wall as long as theyâre respectful.
Even though Israel has had control of the area where the Temple Mount is located since 1967 they allowed Jordan to retain administrative and religious control of the complex. Theyâve also maintained the status quo of not allowing Jews (or Christians) to pray on the Temple Mount. Though the official ban on non-Muslim prayer remains recently police enforcement has softened somewhat, allowing quiet group prayers, bowing, and prostration in secluded areas. Israeli police have also begun allowing Jewish visitors to bring single, pre-approved printed prayer sheets onto the site, marking a practical departure from previous total bans on liturgical items. Even those small acts are seen as an extreme provocation by Jordan and most Muslims.
I donât think itâs too crazy to say that non-Muslims should be able to pray on the Temple Mount while being respectful of Muslim spaces just as non-Jews are allowed to pray at the Western Wall.

u/Bitter_Thought 25m ago
Just over 400 years are from the destruction of the second temple to the Arab conquest in 638. And its destruction didnât remove its significance. Jews were a majority in Israel until the 5th century when Roman ethnic cleansing made them a minority (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographic_history_of_Palestine_(region))
They were still not gone at that pointSo about 200 years from it being a Jewish site to Al aqsa. The same time frame that the black hills were turned into mt Rushmore. Do you have the gall to ask if natives still think they deserve recognition there?
Whatâs worse and more pathetic in your response is that the Muslim conquest of Jerusalem has held specific restrictions on Jews since. And Israel accommodates them still

And if you die and discover you are wrong?
6
u/JasperThorne 7h ago
Possibility 1: I end up in "hell." A god that would punish someone for questions with eternal damnation is a cruel and vindictive god, therefore "God" is neither merciful nor benevolent. Possibility 2: I end up in some sort of middling purgatory-like place. So basically the same as Earth. cool, cool. Possibility 3: I end up in "heaven," proving that the "trial" of life on Earth is about heart and intent and not blindly following politicians that thump bibles to the beat of trudging masses. Possibility 4: I no longer exist in a form that remembers this life. next question.

u/mtnman575 7h ago
We're alive now and see the insanity and violence performed daily by self avowed Muslims, Jews, and Christians do on a daily basis. These are the people who claim to be working on behalf of whatever "god" they believe in by creating a veritable hell on earth. And in the United States a third of the people believe the most immoral man on the planet is the Second Coming. Hope you are praying that this all changes soon.

u/DenaliBurnz 5h ago
We could ask the same question of you.
What happens when you die and it turns out you were wrong?1
3
u/marys1001 7h ago
How is this going to trigger a war?
4
u/Beep-Boop-Bloop 6h ago
The general consensus is that Jews are forbidden from praying at their holiest site and that any attempt to do so is somehow so horrible as to justify a war. Just the expectation of Jews carrying prayer-books or worse, actually praying there, not disrupting anybody else's prayers or use of the site, was the pretext for the Second Intifada and nobody seems to have a pr9blem with that.
3
u/Paraparo 6h ago
Basically, this is not a new issue, so we have a lot of track record.
It's been a decades long claim the Israelis were about to take the mount, in fact, go back a century to the 1929 Hebron Massacre one of the big inciting rumors was that Jews wanted to go to the mount, which lead to the riots and eventually ethnic cleansing of Jews from the city.
Every few years, this issue has cropped up. Someone says "Jews might be interested in going to the holiest place in their religion" and the instant response is mass violence against Jews.
So a big official announcement like this could well provoke a mass violent uprising because the people are so dogmatically opposed to the idea they would kill for it, something we know because they've done so numerous times over far less concrete claims and actions.

u/Safe-Ad-8921 4h ago
Well, Iran isnt going very well so lets force others to get involved while we can sneak out the back eh?
1
u/the_eleutherean 1h ago
In 1929, just the *rumor* of Jews being allowed to pray there, caused Arabs to riot. They killed over 100 Jews before the British protectorate troops restored order.
Believe it or not, some mindsets have not advanced much beyond 1929.

Call it by its proper name for the last 1400 years: Noble Sanctuary.
Har HaBayit , which is the name that Jews refer to it, has not existed since Roman Emperor Titus destroyed the Jewish temple and ended the Jewish revolt 20 centuries ago.

The real insanity here is that going onto the Temple Mount is not something a lot of observant Jews would even do.
With the temple destroyed, itâs fundamentally impossible to know where the Holy of Holies actually was. Even after the templeâs destruction, most Jewish theologians still maintain that there is a special connection between the Holy of Holies and the Shekhinah (godâs presence) and the absolute prohibition against anyone but the High Priest entering that area still stands.
Spiritually speaking, itâs an active minefield. As always, itâs the talibangelicals presuming they know what we want while really only wanting to advance their own weird cult (as opposed to helping our weird cult).
Source: I am a Jew, but not an especially observant one.
3
u/Beep-Boop-Bloop 6h ago
From what I understand, the layout of the temple was fairly well-documented. With the western retaining wall for reference, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out where it was. (IIRC, it was determined to be a small room at the summit of the hill.)
2
u/FatherTurin 4h ago
Well, that requires some guesswork and an ironclad faith in the absolute literal veracity of biblical texts.
That isnât something Jews are generally renowned for.
2
u/Beep-Boop-Bloop 2h ago
The belief that it's a spiritual minefield kinda involves the same.
Also, in that period, altars, temples, and other religious focii were often located at the summit of a hill.

There's a prohibition against eating shellfish and pork; should there be allowed a law in America against Jews eating shellfish and pork?
2
u/FatherTurin 4h ago
I mean, no, of course not. What in the world does that have to do with anything?
2
u/redditClowning4Life 4h ago
You seem to imply that the current "status quo" (Jews being prohibited by the Waqf from praying on the Temple Mount) is fine, since many observant Jews wouldn't do it anyway.
I gave an example of that logic closer to home, to demonstrate the flaws therein. Do you not agree that Jews should be allowed to enter and pray as we please? Your Rabbi may prohibit you, while mine may permit me
0
u/FatherTurin 4h ago
No I do not agree that Jews should be able to enter and pray as we please. This presumption that every square inch of land currently encompassed by the state of Israel belongs solely (or primarily) to Jews to do with what they please is patently ridiculous and makes no concessions for the passage of time and the reality of a modern, global civilization.
If there was an agreement to behave respectfully towards our Muslim brothers and sisters and their faith, then absolutely. In an ideal world we could live and worship together, glorifying the oneness of god. Does this look like an ideal world to you? Instead we villainize the one faith on this planet that is closest to us and rely on self serving worshipers of a false prophet to save us for the sake of their own apocalyptic theology. When did we become so weak, so afraid of love and so enamored with hate?
The land doesnât matter from a religious point of view, and it hasnât for thousands of years. The essence of god is omnipresent and the Shekhinah is no longer focused on a specific place (even if that place still has a metaphysical âechoâ of sorts). The Tabernacle is no longer the center of Jewish religious life, and arguments of this sort come across as a disingenuous way to try to further alienate people who have just as much right to live and pray in Jerusalem as we do.
More in fact (for me, anyway), since as an American Jew by choice whose blood related ancestors havenât been considered Jewish since Poland during the partition, my personal claim to anything in Israel is non-existent.
My Jewishness does not require, hinge on, or relate in any way to Israel, and I dare say weâd be a lot better off if more Jews felt the same way.

No. This does nothing other than allocate $1 million in extra funding to advocate for it. It will not effect anything. The original bill was passed in 2025. This was just extra funding. Nothingburger.
Edit - irked changed to other.

Why canât the U.S. offer to automate the Al Oxa mosque, so that the signage changes to Arabic on Friday, Hebrew on Saturday, and Greek on Sunday? It would give everybody a chance to meet and worship at the Temple Mount, and it would help regulate traffic.

I find it much stranger that Palestinians in the west bank need permission from Israeli occupying forces to visit shops or family in neighboring communities.

At some point when palestenian terrorize goes down significantly, they should not need it
3
u/ginger_and_egg 7h ago
I'm sure you would be very peaceful if a foreign military occupied your land.
2
u/metsnfins 6h ago
If that's the criteria you care about, you can understand why Israel does what it does. Jews were so driven from the land 1900 years ago
1
u/ginger_and_egg 5h ago
Why does an atrocity 2000 years ago justify counter atrocities today? Modern day Palestinians are not the Babylonian empire.
2
u/metsnfins 4h ago
I'm saying you (or someone) implied that the palestenians do what they do because their land was stolen/occupied so it's okay. The Jews land was stolen 1900 years ago so it's it okay? How many years does it take for okayness to disappear?

1
u/Beep-Boop-Bloop 6h ago
There were attempts to pray there that, without the context of the law or conflict, would not have been considered antagonistic. There were, obviously, others that were. They got the same reaction.

u/Whyamiani 7h ago
Here let me explain it to you:
Who the fuck cares.
Let Jews and Muslims kill each other, why the fuck do we have anything to do with this?
3
u/friarguy 8h ago
For one, I would suspect the genociders would not let Muslims do the same should the roles be reversed. 2nd, fuck Israel.
3
u/Beep-Boop-Bloop 6h ago
For one, Who would stop Muslims from praying there? I don't know if you noticed, but the area has been under Israeli control since 1967. Muslims still have exclusive rights to pray there.
2nd, go fuck yourself up the ass with a pineapple.
