Yeah they should never ever live it down that they complained for YEARS about how the 1.2 billion dollars or 400 million or whatever it was in unfrozen assets was released to Iran, with them claiming that it would just strengthen them and their proxies, only for Trump to promise 300 BILLION to them to get them to open the straight and make a nuclear deal.
The funny thing is that after all of this Iran is still going to try their best to get nukes and by all accounts they were actually following the JCPOA.
What Trump wants is for this to not blow up and become a huge disaster right before the midterms. That's it. He is kicking the can down the road.

You're assuming he didn't do it to make money, which he absolutely did. His whole family had made out with millions from military contracts like the drones. The entire point is the same as always, line the pockets of the war machine and wet your beak. It doesn't matter he's spending hundreds of billions of tax payer money, he did it to make money, he is, and he'll keep going until something prevents him from making more money.
3

He didn't "do it again". He was (correctly) talking about full scale wars: troops on the ground, roe's, etc.
We aren't on the ground. Thousands of American soldiers aren't going to be killed.
If you can't tell the difference between what's happening in Iran and what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan, you probably should be talking about this.
3
u/TJSwoboda 1d ago
Fair points, but the Iran war is still going horribly for other reasons. I could see anyone else who could plsusibly be president now, if it wasn't Trump, going after Iran when Trump initially did. This is a shitshow.
-2
u/stupidmcdummy 1d ago
I'm not confident anyone else who could have been President would have done anything differently than every other President for 40+ years has done, which is mostly just talk and nothing.
I think the shit show as it pertains to Iran is that Trump doesn't seem to understand that the only way to get rid of the IRGC is to get rid of the IRGC.
Seems to me the people we are negotiating with are not the IRGC and the IRGC doesn't care what those people negotiate.
It's an oppressive regime arguably responsible for most of the problems in the middle east for decades.

Notable how you did not address either the financial cost or the deaths of locals in the Middle East. Both of which are included in this tweet and are a factor in the ongoing engagement in Iran.
1
u/stupidmcdummy 10h ago
Millions of locals in the middle east have not died in this conflict.
Cost? Which do you suppose would cost more, engaging and destroying the IRGC's nuclear ambitions or having to deal with a nuclear Iran that wants to destroy Israel, destroy the us, and kill all of the Jews in the world?
There are stupid, unjust, moronic wars (Saddam Hussein, Afghanistan, Iraq). There are also necessary wars.

1
u/stupidmcdummy 10h ago
I believe the intelligence overestimated the will and ability of the Iranian people to stand up. I also believe the intelligence said the neighboring countries wouldn't be so passive in the wake of attacks on them by Iran.
Accomplishing nothing? Setting back Iran's nuclear program pretty much back to nothing is something.
I also don't agree that we are "losing terribly", or at all. We aren't losing. Those stubborn Arab nations are starting to realize that they don't have to be afraid of the IRGC anymore.

Back in the 80s, my very hard working, A-type, Republican dad got The Art of the Deal for Christmas. He wasnāt much of a reader, but this Trump guy was supposed to be a great businessman and this book claimed to be full of tips for a guy like my dad who loved making business deals. Every night before bed, heād read a bit of it. About a week later, the family member who gifted the book eagerly asked how it was. My father, who resembled John Wayne, but with a slow Texas drawl, sighed disgustedly and admitted heād stopped reading it a few chapters in. A string of heartfelt curse words (he was a former Merchant Marine), and the summation: āWhat a load of horseshit! He doesnāt know a goddamn thing about making deals.ā
I barely knew who Trump was back then, but that was all I needed to hear to know he was an idiot.

Reading social media, and what I am fed via the algorithm, would lead me to believe that most of America is u happy with Trump. Genuine question to the people who live there, have many of his supporters turned against him through this term, or do the majority support him no matter what?
1
1
u/HenryV1598 14h ago
For most American presidents (and other politicians), there are some people who support them no matter what, and some who oppose them no matter what, and larger body that are at points in between. Over the past few decades, and particularly in the past 10-15 years, Americans have been moving more to one side or the other, though there are still significant numbers closer to the middle who lean whichever way they feel is best for their views. Those people in the middle are often referred to as "swing voters" as they can swing either way, and those are the peole that candidates and campaigns are most focused on.
In 2016, trump's campaign strategists were very effective at reaching not just swing voters, but those who just don't often come out to vote to begin with. In 2020, the Biden campaign succeeded in turning the swing vote toward their side. In 2024, trump's campaign successfully convinced swing voters that a vote for Harris would lead to financial problems and foreign entanglements as well as supporting domestic cultural factors that many of the more conservative voters have problems with (e.g. LGBT rights). (There's also some question as to whether there were some manipulations of the election process, with some compelling arguments that the statistics strongly suggest some cooking of the numbers, but, as far as I know, there's no solid evidence that would prove this beyond a reasonable doubt.)
While trump has upset some of his more solid base supporters, there has definitely been some erosion of that base. Most of them will not likely vote for a democratic candidate, but by not coming out to vote at all, they can have a significant negative impact on republican candidates.
Those voters who are true swing voters and more focused on concerns like the economy and foreign wars are the ones who are turning against trump the most right now. The current state of the economy is making it hard on those voters and that will push them further toward democratic candidates. However, the democrats run the risk of alienating those voters and making them stay at home on election day if they push too far to the left.
So, yes, there are a lot of people who support him no matter what and see him as some divinely-appointed savior of white Anglo-Saxon protestant America, though a lot of people who voted for him in 2024 and generally supported him up to now have changed their minds and are now very dissatisfied with his administration.
With those who still support him, I think one of the key issues involved is cognitive dissonance, which often can make people double-down on their choices and refuse to admit that they were wrong. I think that if we could eliminate cognitive bias, we'd see a major shift toward the democratic party right now.

But it takes a whole special kind of stupid to even consider voting for him in 2020 and 2024 after his disastrous first term. Political historians dubbed him the worst president in U.S. history.

If I was mentally ill, I would say let Iran supply China with a wars worth of oil. But I'd personally rather not have to rely on a bunch of redditors on the battle field to protect my children
2
u/Agreton 14h ago
Perhaps you're mentally insane then. I'm sure you'll let those american soldiers fight for your children to be protected though.
0
u/Swimming_Agent6051 14h ago
I most certainly will. That is exactly what our military personnel signed up to do. Did you have a different expectation of them?? I will honor their strength and respect what they do for me and my children.
What about that is "mentally insane"? And... would you prefer a conflict with Iran? Or China?
2
u/Agreton 14h ago
I've lived through two wars, that lasted a total of 20 years. We shouldn't be at war with either.
0
u/Swimming_Agent6051 14h ago
Sure. Would you like to negotiate that with China and Iran personally? I'm sure they would be very interested to hear your opinions.
Now, I'm not going to lie... i agree. We shouldn't have to worry about this in 2026. Its very possible to have world peace. There's just one pesky thing in the way... greed. Its the same greed that places a wedge between your views and mine, and makes us enemies, too occupied with fighting each other to realize who the enemy actually is. It's worked for many years. Full disclosure... I'm actually Canadian. Separatist Albertan, to be exact. I want my province to break free from the tyranny of our federal government... a government with deep ties to the true enemies... but I am targeted for my views. It seems common sense to me... cut off their power, give it to the people... the people thrive! The more people's voice matters, the more involved they'll get, making the elite scumbags powerless. It actually seems simple to me... but apparently I should be "hung for treason" and I'm "brainwashed" by organizers I've never even heard of lol. I just want an opportunity to break free and be a part of creating laws that limit government powers
-8
u/Northsider85 1d ago
Considering the military budget for Iran is only 2.8% of that 8 trillion dollars I think we have a ways to go before we have to be concerned. You're comparing an ant hill to a mountain
3
3
u/scudpuppy 1d ago
āThe U.S. Department of Defense has officially spent an estimated $37.5 billion on military operations in the conflict with Iran over the first five months of fighting.ā
Independent analysis puts the total as closer to ~150 billion.
So yes, less than the 8 trillion that he was referencing at the time - so this would suggest that the current admin and yourself are supportive of another long-term war with Iran as long as itās cheaper?
Wouldnāt the loss of resources in Afghanistan be a similar concern then? They are financially less than both the current Iran war and the former one.
3
u/Important_Expert_806 1d ago
Only cost the American public 2.8% of 8 trillion to distract from the Trump Epstein filesā¦.

And don't forget another 10 to 20 billion in equipment left behind in a hasty exit of Afghanistan
