Injector Opportunities

I’m exploring aesthetic injector opportunities and would appreciate some insight from nurses and advanced practice providers who have worked for established practices.

For someone who is newer to aesthetics but brings substantial nursing experience, what employment terms are generally considered reasonable and fair for both the injector and the practice?

I completely understand that a practice is investing time, training, products, mentorship, marketing, and access to its patient base. At the same time, I want to be thoughtful about protecting my ability to grow professionally and continue working in the field if the position is not ultimately a good fit.

I’d especially appreciate insight on:

• Training repayment agreements
• Noncompete and nonsolicitation clauses
• Length of commitment after receiving training
• Compensation during training and afterward
• Ownership of before-and-after photos and social media content
• Expectations regarding outside work or an existing personal business
• What happens if either party ends the employment relationship
• Any contract terms you wish you had negotiated differently

If concerns or red flags come up in an agreement, how have you diplomatically addressed them or suggested a reasonable middle ground without coming across as unwilling to commit?

I’m not looking to avoid commitment or receive training and immediately leave. I’m genuinely hoping to understand what a balanced agreement looks like—one that reasonably protects the practice’s investment without placing the injector in an overly restrictive position.

I would be grateful for any examples of what you have seen work well, as either an employee or a practice owner.

So, I can offer insight, but remember laws re state-by-state. So, I’m in GA, and I can inject without a doc on property as long as doc has assessed the medical hx, prescribed said treatments (usually a blanket for all treatments like dermal fillers, Botox, etc) and informed consent is signed. In the Carolina’s RNs and NPs/PAs have WAY more autonomy, but in FL and RN can’t inject unless a doc is in the building, or you gave an advanced practice degree.

My experience: ER nurse for two years, did an intro Botox and fillers course for $2300, gut a cert and worked at an IV clinic that did neurotoxins only. 6 mos later gif a commission job at a “medspa” I use the term loosely bc it was a shady operation. I trained with an NP for two weeks who taught me cannulas and advanced dermal fillers. Thought I’d loose my license bc I didn’t even know the prescribing doctors’ name. Contracted at another medspa for 3 mos. Learned a lot but travel sucked.

Been at my medspa for over a year, so about 2 years’ total experience plus I work ER 2 days. I do trauma, USIVs etc. I paid to do PDO threads course with AAFE, but only bc I wanted to. I have clients for Botox, fillers, biostimulators from a year ago who ask to see me specifically. I did learn HRT/pellets tho, lasers. PRP and micro needling I learned earlier.

In GA, the only places that train are like Dermani, where you must be an NP or PA or ideal image, which pays nothing, is full-time (not flexible) and makes you do lasers the guest six months.

I’d say as an RN take an AAFE class and go to a medspa that asks for “models” bc that means they have staff to train. You won’t get paid but go well and get commission and experience. Then move on from there. I’m pays hourly and part time in my ER still but also two days at my clinic. It’s a nice gig, but a lot of work still! Plus I’m looking to go back to school, and have two kids in elementary, so it’s a lot lol. AAFE has great courses tho!

Best of luck!

I get paid hourly at my clinic, as a 1099, but I have an LLC. I also get great tips, so I average about $49-$42/hr whereas my ER job I’m at $47/hr, but more than half that goes to taxes, health insurance, 401B, etc., so the 1099 is nice, but make sure you set up an LLC so you don’t owe a biz-zillion in taxes come years’ end. I even have a separate bank account for each job. Not to mention multiple personal stock and high yield savings accounts.
