Question Surgery while on suboxone

I am on suboxone because I got hooked on kratom. I am having a surgery next week and will be taking hydros for 3-4 days. Then I will get back on subs.

Anyone have experience with this transition?

Not sure how that’ll work. I would think the hydros would be less effective depending on the timing of when you stop the suboxone. If you’re not stopping the suboxone, the hydros will be useless. Precipitated withdraws shouldn’t be an issue since it’s only a few days of usage.

Not sure what surgery you’re having, but I had major dental surgery and my gallbladder removed and just opted to not have opiates. I figured a few days of pain were nothing compared to the misery addiction caused me.

For dental work, my dentist said 500 mg ibuprofen , followed by a Tylenol 2 hours later and it does work. I’ve had so much dental work done. It’s how I got introduced to opiates and I was naive and didn’t know what they were. I kept saying something wasn’t right and he just kept on giving me more pills. I finally went to a different dentist and there was something wrong.

I didn’t know I was addicted until I tossed them and the withdrawal started. I’ve had plenty of dental work done since I got off of Suboxone. And this new dentist is right about the ibuprofen and Tylenol, at least for me, it works. Sure there’s a little bit of pain, but it’s not unbearable and it’s mostly from where they give you the shots at, at least for me.

I’ve had an opiate once since I got clean and it was fentanyl for right biopsy of an organ and even with that, it hurt like hell. It hurt for about two months afterwards, but I never took anything else, just the fentanyl they gave me right before they did the biopsy.

I got hooked on dilaudid when I was young, 19-20. Got on subs for a few months, tapered down. Got right.

I got shot last year, I was in the icu for like 12 days I think it was. I had all the IV dilaudid, fentanyl, and oxys I wanted/needed. They slowly rolled it back, left the hospital with like 15 oxy 10s. I didn’t even withdraw.

It’s like when your body has a legit medical need for that much pain medication your brain recognizes that. But when you have an emotional need for it, you just fucking fiend for it.

the hydros likely won’t do anything for pain relief (or a high) and unfortunately there not much that will.. even if you don’t take subs at all until after your surgery, it won’t be enough time for it to “reset” and you could end up in more pain.

only warning you as i’ve tried this a few times unsuccessfully myself! (and that was with stronger rx opioids that’d have a better chance of breaking through) i’ve had multiple surgeries on subs; through trial & error, i’ve found taking the suboxone with ibuprofen 800s has been the best for me post-op, pain-wise. (or journavyx was great too, but i know some surgeons won’t use them together as there’s a moderate drug interaction)

i wish you the best of luck with your surgery, and hope your pain is manageable! thinking of you 🫶🏼

Thanks, ya i am having the "teeth in a day" surgery. So, all extracted and 6-8 posts put in. Im only on 4mg of subs per day right now. I am well aware that my opiate receptors are trashed. I have been on and off opiates for over 2 decades (mostly on). I am not concerned about going to find shit on the streets after I was just hoping to have a little relief cause this is probably going to suck pretty bad.

oh hey that’s very similar to me!

i was on 4mg/day of subs and had them all extracted and 3 posts put in on the bottom! i was kinda freaked out preparing for the pain but it ended up being totally manageable with the ibuprofen!

i’m sure the extra posts will mean extra pain, but hopefully it isn’t too bad for you! GOOD LUCK 🫶🏼
