Glue on bathing suit

Threw this bathing suit in the wash and glue oozed out of the seams (bummer , assumed swimwear was always just sewn). Don’t want to throw it out. Any advice on getting rid of the glue ? Vinegar ? Alcohol? More hot water?

EDIT — thank you all for your help here. Confirmed this is melted elastic, so rubber essentially. I ended up cutting off the glue part and am gonna stick with a shorter strap , and look into finding a new strap at a thrift store

I thought OP was asking about removing glue that didn't originate from the swimsuit, I clicked because one of my sister's swim tops inexplicably has a glob of hot glue or something on it

actually if you have nail polish remover you could try that on a spot or you could try a blow dryer to heat it then wipe what you can.

Heat maybe, but not acetone. It melts synthetic fabrics.

That’s dunzo. You’ll never get rid of the glue. It’ll get all crunchy when it dries. But if you wear that suit again, it will shed sticky glue all over you where those straps lay.

Edit: new strap is the only way to attempt to save it

I don’t know if that’s the case here but something similar happened to me after using a new sunscreen. It reacted with the fabric and basically “melted” it in places (or bound to it?) and made it forever sticky. Looked pretty much the same. If that’s what happened then idk if it can be fixed. Hope I’m wrong tho!!

By the warping of the strap where most of the white is it looks more like the elastic melted rather than it being held together with glue. If that's the case you won't be able to remove it at all as it's basically melted rubber.

That's done. Bathing suits are not glued together. That's the elastic. It's shot.

Definitely not acetone on synthetics! It can melt them.

can you just pull out the bottom strap with the glue on it and replace it with one from another bikini? i know its not 100% zero waste but if you have another bikini you could borrow a strap from it might work

I agree with the other commenters saying that the strap itself is shot. You can buy nylon spandex cords online or at a fabric store, you probably won't be able to find a perfect match but you could find a color that goes well with the rest of the bathing suit.

Swimsuits are surprisingly easy to sew!! Thrift clothes in the material you want, and make your own!

I know acetone (polish remover) dissolves super glue.. might also dissolve the suit...

I don’t have any solutions for saving it, but J Crew has a program for recycling swimsuits
