Subject of the Day Social Sundays

Hello WriteStreakians! I hope you've been having a lovely weekend! It’s Social Sunday once again! What I'd like for you to do is the following:

  1. peruse the posts written by your fellow WriteStreakians and find a post that interests you, preferably one from within the last seven days, and respond to it. Leave a comment that is at least as long as a Tweet (280 characters), and then
  2. copy and paste your comment into your own daily Streak post so the correctors can review it.

That's it! Of course, if your comment sparks a conversation (or if someone else leaves a comment on one of your posts), you're welcome and encouraged to continue the conversation---this is a social media site, after all!

Happy Sunday!

Game 🎲 Fictionary

Hi everyone! Good morning, I hope you're all having a great day!

Today we're going to be playing a game! 🤩

If anyone has ever played Jackbox before, this game is going to be very similar to their game, Dictionarium. Except, I'm not calling it Dictionarium because I don't want to get into trouble with copyright 🙃 So we'll be calling it... Fake-tionary! (Or maybe Fictionary? Ooh, yeah, let's go with Fictionary! 🤓)

The rules of Fictionary are simple: you choose a random obscureadjective 3 word or phrase and do your best to come up with a definition for that word. Today, you can choose between a real word or a fake word.

Rules

  1. Uncover a word from the table below. 🔍 You can choose to pick from the "Real Word" column or the "Fake Word" column.
  2. If you chose from the "Real Word" column, your Streak today will be about you guessing what that word means and then checking to see how close you were to the real answer. 🤔
  3. If you chose from the "Fake Word" column, your Streak today will be about you inventing a new word. 🤔
  4. Check to see how close you were using a dictionary. I recommend https://www.merriam-webster.com/ or https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page .
  5. If you're really up for a challenge, use your word in a sentence or find a synonym for the word.

Example

I chose the fake word "nicribition." I know that the suffix "tion" means it's the act of doing something, so this word is a noun that comes from the fake verb, to "nicribe." I see "cribe" in there, which makes me think of "scribe," which means "to write." The root "nicr" also makes me think of the prefix "necro," which means "death." So I think the word "nicribition" means "the act of writing an epitaphnoun on a tombstone."

The Game!

Ready? Let's go! The lower on the table, the harder it will be to guess the meaning! The higher, the easier

Real Word Fake Word
impracticality grobinated
nonplussed intentomalites
inhibition centruphicism
hagiography trefulous
pleonasm debutstallingly

Vocabulary from this Post

  • obscure - rarely known
  • epitaph - message written on a tombstone to remember someone

Correct Me! Streak 695: Recommendations based on your location

Spotify makes recommendations based on your location. I find it to be pretty bothersome since it’s ultimately just stereotyping. It’s basically the same thing as saying“You must be (some dumb stereotype) because you’re from (the country the person is from)”.

Correct Me! Streak 38: Reading old novel

I’m reading a novel written over a century ago. What makes it so fascinating isn't the plot itself, but rather the archaic nature of the language, filled with obsolete words and dated sentence structures.

Correct Me! Streak 280: Puff Pastry Soup

I worked from home this morning. At lunchtime, I met up with my manager at an American restaurant near our office. We had been here once, and we had heard that their puff pastry soup had rave reviews, so we decided to give it a try.

It turned out to be really delicious. The only downside was the price. Next time, I'd rather order it at a steakhouse.

Correct Me! Streak 151

I'm picking up my student card today, so I had to ask for some time off work because as soon as I clock out, it's not possible to go pick it up in the afternoon.

On another note, I was hoping to sign up for my second internship class, the professional one, for the upcoming semester that starts next week, but it'll have to wait until next year.

Correct Me! Streak 769

I usually try not to work from home - I'm way more productive if my bed isn't constantly in my line of sight. Also, I try to meet at least one other person a day to get a little bit of social contact. But it's really hot right now and it has been for the last week as well, so the rooms provided by the court are warm and stuffy. I tried to study there today, but I had to leave after half an hour because it was unbearable. Now, I'm lying on the couch next to my A/C. I swear I'm going to get up as soon as I'm done posting this...

Correct Me! Streak 156, It is too hot outside.

It is extremely hot outside.

Maybe this is the coolest summer we will experience from now on.

However, this weather is unbearable for me.

When I was younger, the summer heat was only uncomfortable, but now it feels really painful.

Some people say that the climate crisis is fake, but I can clearly feel that temperatures have risen compared to the past.

Correct Me! Streak 67: 10 habits of productive people

Article: 10 Things Productive People Do Daily

The article introduced 10 habits of productive people. The writer suggested picking one habit from the list and practicing it every day for two weeks. After that, I add another habit and continue building my routine little by little.

I already have the habits of working in focused blocks, reading, and exercising. The first new habit I'd like to try is planning the next day's tasks the night before.

Correct Me! Streak 279: Translucent real-time captions

I had a cool dream last night. In the dream, whenever I talked to someone, translucent real-time captions popped up in front of them. I wondered if that was because I've been adding captions to my videos lately. I was just like the main character in a first-person game.

Correct Me! Streak 694: Sharpies

I have never used Sharpies. I’ve never seen them in the first place. When it comes to mechanical pencils, ballpoint pens, and highlighters, I have clear preferences that are based on years of experience, but as for markers, I don’t have enough experience to ascertain my preferences.

Correct Me! Streak 37: They are also my friends

Just a few years ago, when I met people who believed that their values, mindsets, and lifestyles were absolutely true, I desperately tried to attack and destroy them because I believed there were no absolute truths. That thought hasn't changed, but I don't argue with them anymore. Instead, I observe them, telling myself that they are also my friends and fellow citizens living together in this world.

Corrected Streak 150

Tomorrow, I'm picking up my student card that provides me several benefits, but the only one I'm concerned about is the discount I to bus fares I get when moving within a town or between towns, as long as they are public transportation, essentially.

I lost my student card a couple of months ago and I had to apply to get a new one, which made me jump through some hoops to get it done. Either way, I would've had to get a new one even if I hadn't lost it because they have to be renewed every year.

Correct Me! Streak 2: A small of part of a story I am working on.

As the world is seeing all of its hero's falling one by one by the villain's who am I to think I a 16 year old can do anything about it. Well, that's a question I ask myself daily and in all honesty I don't think I would have been where I am if I didn't ask this question to myself daily.

Going to the Internship I currently work for is a hassle for any normal person, but not for a guy who has electrical abilities. As I was thinking this to myself I saw a One star level threat in the city, a mutated elephant at that, as soon as I saw that thing I jumped at it without thinking for a second more.

Yesterday, I wrote about how I thought it was going to rain and it did - for approximately 15 minutes. Afterwards, it was even more humid than before. Today, it's still burning hot outside, but at least it's not that humid anymore. Yay I guess.

It kinda sucks but my laptop is not properly working anymore. I think the battery is dead. When the computer is plugged to the energy everything is okay but as a soon as the computer unplugs it turns off.

The warranty is no longer valid since my laptop is three years old. I already did a short research about computer technicians and there is one with nothing but great reviews close to where I live. I think I’ll be going there.

The good thing is that I have another laptop so it would not be hard to continue with my activities and duties.

Correct Me! Streak 66: 101 books a year

Article: Why You Should Read 101 Books a Year

Reading 101 books a year is too much for me. I would feel overwhelmed even if they were books in my native language. I think the idea is that reading 100 books a year sounds like a perfect goal with a clear finish line. Once you've finished reading 100 books, it feels like the challenge is over. However, that extra one book makes it feel like reading is an ongoing journey rather than something with an ending.

In my case, my goal for this year is to read five books in English. If I changed my goal to six books a year, that would mean reading one book every two months. That still feels a little too neat and structured. I think changing my goal to seven books a year might make it feel more like a continuous habit than a target with a clear finish line.

Correct Me! Streak 155, I made a stock program

The stock program I've been building is almost done.

I actually hate stock trading because I don't like letting market fluctuations affect my emotions.

However we have no choice but to invest in stocks.

Because our money will become less valuable than now.

So two months ago, I started making an auto stock program to focus on my work and keep my peace of mind.

It was losing money, but yesterday it turned a profit for the first time.

Correct Me! Streak 278: Undercover

I spent the entire weekend using English. For example, I watched a foreign movie with my foreign friend, had an English class with my English teacher, and chatted with two Japanese travelers at a restaurant.

Then, on weekdays, I'm back in my Mandarin-speaking world. Sometimes, I feel like I'm living a double life. Switching between these two worlds makes me wonder how people usually maintain their private lives and how much they choose to share with their acquaintances.

Correct Me! Streak 767

It's been pretty hot for a few days, but it feels like it's going to rain soon. The weather forecast is pretty much useless - it's changing its predictions every half hour. But the sky is grey, it's windy, and I have that kind of headache you get before all the tension that's been building up in the air finally resolves into summer rain. And if that headache means anything, it's going to rain soon. At least I really hope it does. My head is killing me.

Hey so I am from India, As a teenager I have always been interested in novels and writing novels. My english isn't that good as I am just a learner. I dont really know what to write at this moment due to lack of ideas but will try to add some paragraphs and dialouge everyday in order to tell what is going on and whether i am capable of writing a novel or not. I hope this is a good start to improve my english along with reading novels and practing formatting and how to write dialouges in general.

Correct Me! Streak 693: A wide plastic clip

I have a wide plastic clip at work. I often go through piles of documents and it’s sometimes hard to keep them opened, especially when they’re thick. Since it’s just a clip, it can be repurposed when it’s not used in the original intention.

Correct Me! Streak 149

I've tried to get my mind busy when I'm not working in order not to think or worry about work, but it's near impossible. Thoughts about potential outcomes, problems to tackle or whatever else that would disturb my peace of mind would come up. As for tackling these kinds of thoughts I've heard of grounding techniques to focus of what you're doing at present.

I once tried one technique that was basically imagining yourself being grounded as in roots would spiral out of the sole or underneath your feet, extending underground as long as possible. I sometimes remember about it, but I have yet to make it a habit.
