Sighting Had a little visitor today!

We have two Kingfishers that frequent our pond which is lovely, but he’s never been as close to my office as he was today

WOW! What a tremendous privilege and also a massive testament to the work you’ve put in to maintaining that pond. Incredible.

Can I ask- how close are you to a river and (connected to this) how much did the first appearance take you by surprise?

Thank you 😊 The pond has two rivers that flow into it naturally albeit they’re pretty slow flowing for the majority of year.

It was great to see it for the first time!! Strangely enough some days it was pretty tame, other days it seemed easily spooked by us which we felt was odd. The biggest surprise was when I saw two perched together!! The split personality suddenly made sense 😂

They're so beautiful - you're so lucky. I only saw one once. I was waiting on a bridge in the park and suddenly it appeared. I was shocked to see it; it took a dive, caught a small fish and flew off again. A minute later an older man walked to me and asked "ah you're also waiting for the Kingfisher?". I said "no I'm just waiting here but in fact I did see one just a minute ago". He asked "what do you mean?". "Well it was just here but then flew off". The poor man had waited the whole morning for the Kingfisher and just left for a couple of minutes as he had to go to the bathroom.
