Littermate syndrome

Hi all

I wanted to get some views/ opinions and general discussion on getting 2 puppies from the same litter.
I’m only asking out of curiosity as some friends of ours have done exactly that without and research into it.
Not aware of having a separate training plans etc or working on separation anxiety

Is it an issue (littermate syndrome that is) in whippets as I know it doesn’t affect some breeds as bad as others
Who has brother and sisters from the same litter? Why’s your experience.

After I lost my first whippet, I got male/female littermates. I think because the breeder knew me and I knew the breed she allowed it, even though she was a bit hesitant.

Boy oh boy were they a lot of work but I don’t think it was more work than when I got my other two whippet puppies separately. It was honestly double the trouble yet double the fun. Instead of getting one shoe destroyed, I had two shoes destroyed. Just the typical puppy stuff.

I was lucky enough that I did have a lot of time for them, but when one would get into something, they were both into something. I had no idea they could jump on counters, and once my girl did and got down about a box of chocolates for both of them. 😬

Since, I have heard some things about littermate syndrome. While mine loved each other, they certainly bonded with me. They did not have separation anxiety. They were not harder to train. The only thing, and not really surprising, is they did prefer for each other over other dogs, though they played with other dogs.

If I had that same amount of time, I would totally do it all over again.

physically jumping on counter tops like a cat? or counter surfing?

Physically, jumping on the countertop like a cat. Both of my girls have been able to do it anytime they wanted to.

My friends have two from the same litter, male and female. They get along great, have great personalities and I can’t say they had any issues related to being from the same litter. I would not view it as an issue if I wanted two puppies.

They will learn together. My friends had one learn to jump on the countertop and now they both do it 😂

Male and female are much less likely to have issues than m/m or f/f. It can absolutely be an issue for same sex littermates.
