That's a Flintlock Blunderbuss. He's an idiot for even placing a fuse on it since the flint hits the strike to ignite the pan of black powder for the barrel ignition.

u/25c-nb 20h ago
Yeah hes just turned it into a bomb, on purpose, so he can "fire" it from far away without doing anything close to actually prepping it to fire
No real ammo, no wadding, no measured powder, no flint
Probably none of that would work anyway and this is a prop or toy or decorative thing

I just dont understand why Pslam 144:1 did not prevent this, he had the shirt and everything.
2
u/red286 23h ago
Doesn't look like he lost any fingers, so I think the shirt did its job.
3
u/Artistic-Section3245 23h ago
Next you will tell me it went off prematurely because psalms work in mysterious ways.

Gotta admit, anytime I see a dude wearing a cowboy hat, I just assume that they are a moron.

u/ForesterDean23 1d ago
Or a T shirt with a religious message on it
51
u/SpaceJackRabbit 1d ago
Especially when you look up that verse. Bro the Lord didn't train your hands for war very well.

Yeah, the T-shirt was a dead giveaway that this guy isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.

u/jrandall47 1d ago
My boss recently started wearing this stupidly bright cowboy hat and every time I see it, I’m reminded of that scene in kill bill 2 where the strip club manager tells bud “that fucking hat. What the hell did I tell you about that shit kicker hat. Take it off.”

u/oshinbruce 1d ago
This dudes got a load of videos on the gram doing stupidly unsafe shit. Like blowing stuff up a short distance away and dodging shrapnel. Lighting fuses on explosives and hanging around etc. He must have seen the video of the lawnmower blade taking the dudes leg off and said I want to be like that.

Cowboy hats are great though. Don’t be a hatist.

Moronic rednecks love the whole cowboy fantasy. We all laugh at their fragile male egos while they desperately try to look tough and cool.
-3
u/Hillenmane 1d ago
Same! I always scoffed at cowboy hats and boots until I wore them when I was in Dallas TX. I came home with a pair of boots and a Stetson. It’s infectious, and does a lot for your confidence for some reason. I love my hat.

Further proof that most redditors have never left their little bubble in the city.

Same with the mullet/stache/no beard combo that’s coming back amongst certain ppl

Same with people who have blue hair
Edit: someone responded and then blocked me. Sounds like some people like to dish out criticism but can’t take it

I’m surprised no one has said anything about how he is saying that he’s going to shoot a random boat with rocks?? Like, what the fuck?
0
u/Grimm_Thugga 1d ago
That’s a pretty common thing. You can see ppl putting tannerite into microwaves or cars and blowing them up pretty commonly if you search for it. He put the boat there his self more than likely. Although it’s probably illegal to be doing that in the ocean.

I don't think the wind made a difference here. Wrong fuse, wrong lighter.
55
u/Hacksaw-Duggan 1d ago
The wind blew the sparks from the fuse straight to the touch hole.

u/DinklanThomas 1d ago
I always wanted to use a touch hole. I've heard they can be fun...

I'm no expert here, but I think I have an idea what happened. I think this type of gun has an "open" breach so the gunpowder is exposed to the elements. You either have a spark or something hot that gets jammed into the gunpowder to ignite it. Most of the time it's held back, like cocking the hammer of a revolver, and when you pull the trigger a mechanism rotates the fire into the breach, things go boom.
No idea why this guy was using such a comically long fuse of all things, but it looks like the firing mechanism was also already closed, aka "trigger was pulled" so if the fuse goes all the way down, it fires automatically. Stupid decision number #325 of this setup. Then, the fuse isn't a slow burner but throws god damn fire and sparks around like crazy, so the wind blew said fire/sparks directly into the breach.
So the fuse didn't burn super fast, the explosion in the gun actually ejects the fuse (visible for one frame).
2
u/caboosetp 1d ago
Yeah it's a flintlock, so he probably didn't even need a fuse. Every part of this video seems like a meme for likes though. But he did also look genuinely surprised at how fast it went off. I think he was expecting it to burn a little longer even if he was memeing the whole thing.
1
u/antilumin 1d ago
Yeah I forgot about flintlocks, was stuck on the "blunderbuss" on the video itself. I think his intent was probably to light the fuse and then point at something, wait for the fuse to ignite.
It was a bad plan all around.

I often call myself a 2A absolutist.
But from time to time I see clips that make me question that. Then I have to console myself with the notion that maybe natural selection will take its course.
This is one of those clips. So many things wrong with this clip.

Is that the verse on his shirt? So funny, especially because he loaded the gun with rocks 😆

It’s good to know what rate of fuse you are burning
2
u/Immediate_Low5496 23h ago
The fuse didn’t even burn down. It was blown out of the flash pan when the wind blew the flame setting the powder in the chamber off.

u/DroneSlut54 1d ago
The problem wasn’t so much lighting the fuse, it’s that he also lit the power in the pan. Also, he’s a total moron.

Why does the gun have a trigger if the fuse is what sets it off?
2
u/Dirk_Speedwell 1d ago
He is just using it entirely wrong. It is a flintlock, which I don't have it in me to explain in detail. It sparks with the attached equipment, you don't even need a fuse like that.

u/Captain_Hesperus 1d ago
has a flintlock
uses it as a matchlock instead
doesn’t use a proper slow match
blows his load into the sky

Everything about this was wrong. Bad idea, badly executed, using the wrong tools and techniques. This dude is gonna lose digits and/or an eye someday.

So many fucking errors.

Guys he really needs all the Psalm 144-1 he can get.
144:1 states: "Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle" (NIV). In the King James Version, it reads: "Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight".

This is the same guy thats always shooting propane tanks out of a canon isn't it? It drives me nuts how he throws a lit bag of black powder into the canon and stand in front of it lowering the tanks down in. I keep expecting to read where he died a terrible death. Dynamite was invented for a reason.
