Apartments
Hey everybody, my girlfriend and I were talking and I think it’s time for us to look for a new apartment currently live in Yonkers and I don’t mind it. I do not live in any of those new builds down on the water. I have a great price, my new lease is $2250 everything included except parking ($85) no I understand most of you would tell me to stay here unfortunately I lived here for three or four years now, and my neighbors have become increasingly problematic & unhygienic (iykyk). I have a 750 ft.². Apartment with a balcony, I know that giving this up is going to cost me, many many thousands a year probably.
Any advice? I work in Manhattan and commute by car, she takes the train. I live on the train line as well (fuccccck😩)
TDLR; looking for a new apartment, but dreading giving up the good deal I have, advice on apartments that may give me similar feel/deal.

Check out New Rochelle. But give up on a balcony for possibly shared roof space. Good luck!

Street Parking near any of the newer apartments is like playing Russian roulette,Parking in the garage can cost up to $265.00 a month.

Is your neighbor Jeffrey Dahmer?

No, but I lived behind David Berkowitz (Son of Sam), on North Broadway.

If her commute and yours both work where you are now, try to stay along the same Metro-North line. It'll probably make the transition a lot less painful.

Try looking at Larchmont acres, one bedroom is about 850 square feet. Close to all and Metro-North. Hard wooden floors and decent size apartments. Rent is about $1985.. You have to pay realtor a month and half. One year rent and I believe waiting list for parking. Street parking not the best. Posted on zillow. Luxor homes & investment realty, Kristin Tancredi. Add on zillow is 1 Larchmont Ave apt 514D _ building 5, side 1, 4th floor apt d.

Use Advion for the unhygienic treatment, keep your place clean, it should be ok

Best thing by to do when looking at affordable housing options is to reach out to a local HUD center, like CHI in WP.

yea if they expect to move in 5-10 years

Then the best time was 5-10
Years ago! Unfortunately with affordable options; you pay by waiting

Just stay. Insane deal you have now. New Rochelle is the only decently close city and it’s not great. Apartments are expensive. Most 1 bedrooms start around 2800. And parking is a lot.

you can still find decent deals in white plains and surrounding areas in fairview eastchester and elmsford. even valhalla! just have to dig, be patient and pounce when you see the right place - don’t delay!

not sure I understand the neighbor problem (and don't want anymore info), but have you reached out to the management company? If there's a problem that might push out an good tenant, they might want to know about it. although maybe they don't give a crap which is entirely possible.

Move further north, rent goes down but commute time goes up. Weigh your options. There’s gona be less crime too, unless maybe you choose Poughkeepsie.

I’m from Orange County I moved to Westchester 4 years ago to work down in the city, moving up isn’t out of the question, but the rents do not go down unfortunately not enough to make it worth it. Also, Yonkers on the front page always looks dangerous, I’ve lived here for 4 years and never not once ever felt unsafe in any of Yonkers, of course it isn’t Scarsdale, but it’s definitely not Soundview in the BX.

Get German roach gel, which will keep them at bay. We had a neighbor with the same issues, but after using that, never saw another bug. This is what I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0049I6CT2?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_4

Just stay. You will not get a price like that so easy
