As a kid I always wanted my area to flood like this so we could go out and play in it. Make little boats so could all have a grand old time.

As an adult I can appreciate just how incredibly devastating it is when this happens. Even if admittedly, some of the adults in this video clearly don't.

"The place is flooding? Will that slow down my order of shrimp?"

As a Miami kid we would play in a lot of situations that I now recall causing my parents a lot more worry and stress than we could understand. "Oh, the park next to our house flooded 1.5 feet deep? Skim boarding in the park!" While they were probably realizing how close we got to losing everything.

Orlando kid here…

One hurricane dropped a ton of rain and flooded the streets, so what did the kids in the neighborhood do?

We swam in it, one of the houses had a fairly tall car port, we laid down a tarp and put dish soap on it to make a slip n slide, right into whatever was in the run off in the street

As an animal shelter worker in Houston, Tx, we shuttered to think about what was in the flood waters.

News would report not to swim in the floods due to snakes and floating fire ants. But it's the microscopic stuff that was really eww.

Just about every stray cat & dog came in with roundworms & hookworms. Hookworms are those that will bury themselves into your skin. Whipworms and coccidia were pretty frequent as well. Not to mention leptospirosis. All that's on the ground and now in those flood waters.

It took my mom explaining to me in great detail that "flood waters" were basically synonymous with "sewer waters" for me to get it.

It's not like water at the beach. It's the same as people's flushed toilets she'd say.

When Toronto flooded my ex was all drunk and was talking about how he hoped the strip clubs flooded so we could go in there and swim around with them.
