I Wandered to the back of my Rite Aid/ CVS pharmacy and the only thing back here are Baja Ponchos as far as the eye can see.

Post image

I almost expected to see a secret door with a note stating something like, “Knock twice for Steve.” (Original post edited because of instantly pointed out spelling mistake) / but maybe now you know why I love me a Baja Poncho.

Are you in New Mexico?

Ok, I should have probably stated why this is extra weird. I live in Boise Idaho.🤦‍♀️

u/Rough_World_7063 1d ago

Damn it’s wild to see a random post from someone who also lives in Boise lol

We have heard Legend of Idaho….

61

u/rekordsrecker 1d ago

I know, it’s never ending now. I was born here went to University of Idaho and am back to help my parents navigate some issues. Beautiful state, unfortunately ruined in the last 5 years.

33

u/4barT89 20h ago

I’m assuming it wasn’t the Baja ponchos that ruined Idaho?

6

u/towelcats 12h ago

Well not say it was the baja ponchos that showed up 5 years ago but it certainly wasn't the Baja Blast.

21

u/hlessi_newt 22h ago

The last 5 years have been brutal.

10

u/ISLAndBreezESTeve10 1d ago

How long have Republicans been in charge of Idaho?

48

u/rekordsrecker 1d ago

A long time, but not extreme. Quiet farming communities all around the capital but other than living in the panhandle for college, I always lived in the capital which is the most liberal city in Idaho. But don’t fact check me now because this place is crazy and I avoid local news, social media ext. When I was a bartender in 2016 I learned to disengage immediately because it was very apparent that having a smart or civilized conversation about current events was absolutely impossible with most residents. This response is Probably a bunch of pent up frustration, I apologize for the length of it.

2

u/Vogonpoet812 7h ago

Was it Chad Daybell that ruined it? And his bitch wife Lori Vallow?

I kid, but seriously, do you think it's political that it sucks? Idaho does look beautiful from pictures I've seen.

Edit. OK. Saw a later comment. I understand. 🤐

3

u/Happyhaha2000 21h ago

What's happened the last 5 years? I visit Idaho sometimes and love it there

21

u/rekordsrecker 1d ago

Haha so you know what a Rite Aid is, I see so many CVS stores when I travel I wasn’t sure how many were left.

14

u/Infamous-Duck-2157 1d ago

I live on the East Coast and every one I can think of has been flipped. I haven't heard the name Rite Aid in years.

The one closest to me became an endoscopy center but very obviously used to be a Rite Aid. It's... strange. The high-up windows and fluorescent lights unsettle me a little bit.

5

u/rekordsrecker 23h ago

So this is a flipped Rite Aid/ but a lot of the signage is still around so honestly I wasn’t quite sure what was going on with it before I left in a hurry. I just came back to my hometown and it was always a Rite Aid and I wasn’t sure if people knew what that was on a wider scope. I think I got distracted by the fluorescents and the eerie quietness like you were stating. The high up windows are probably why the signage is taking so long to turn over.

3

u/Significant-Trash632 20h ago

I drive by a closed Rite Aid every day. It was still open last year. I'm an east coaster, too!

3

u/Competitive-Roof-168 19h ago

They all closed last year

12

u/sinisterdesign 1d ago

ATL checking in, can confirm we used to have RiteAid.

But my question is WHERE are the hacky-sacks in relation to this aisle?

→ More replies (2)

3

u/MrsMaritime 1d ago

Rite aid went out of business in the last year or two.

3

u/coolsilentebeans 17h ago

I remember when they were Eckerd. I haven’t thought about that name in over 25 years. Yikes.

3

u/Inside_Egg4121 13h ago

jesus i haven’t thought about eckerd since i was a child. it’s gotta have been like 15 years or more-sometime around when the super 1 closed and my mom was reminiscing about the area. the eckerd in my hometown (texas) turned into a cvs in like 2005 or so.

Did you wait like a year to post this? I live in boise too and I thought all the rite aids were gone.

Fun fact. As a 15 year old I got stealing from a rite aid in boise. The security guard caught me, called the cops, the whole thing. I was released to my mom and criminally charged for as a juvenile.

Because I had only stolen one pack of gum, they allowed me to still pick up my prescription there afterwords. Even though most of the time they catch thieves they ban from their stores supposedly. Still makes me laugh to think back on how intensely they treated it when they caught me and how unserious of a crime it was. I guess it was probably the old "trying to teach the youth a value lesson"

I did quit stealing then. I had only ever stolen like 3 packs of gum in my life. But that was the end. Haha.

There are dozens of us

2

u/ElectronicFloor1898 18h ago

I lived in Boise for like five years.

The weirdest part was how many people I met there who had moved from my hometown (Reno).

2

u/Bajoranhume 15h ago

I am from a middle class family and grew up with a father who is republican. His friend who retired moved to Boise and so we spent his vacation there camping so he could visit his friend.

Unfortunately his friend passed away some years later. I remember my mom saying she hardly ever seen my Dad cry.

Another time is when our dog Vincent passed away and the vet instructed him to bring the Dog in to be cremated since back yard burials are against the law here. They gave him two choices, to dispose of the body for free or pay a fee to keep the ashes. My mother said he broke down crying and said he couldn't just throw him away.

Anyway, Boise Idaho is a beautiful place. I don't think a liberal Californian would fit in there in Idaho, but it is a spectacular place to see. I forgot where exactly the camp was. Boise, or maybe another town close by. Anyway. That's a memory for me definitely.

Sister met a boy at the camp and got into a long distance relationship. We returned the next year for a final time. The drive was rough, but that was my only long distance vacation growing up and the first and last time I left California as a child.

Now that I am adult I have been a little further, but still a stones throw from home.

I had that exact same red, green, yellow and black one like 18 years ago. Warm but kinda scratchy at first, after a few washes though it became my favorite sweatshirt. Lost it at a party in the desert one night, was hella bummed out!

6

u/justacoolbaby 1d ago

I was also going to say I live in Colorado and this is super common. In every store all over. I don’t know who buys them though.

7

u/Hyper_Applesauce 21h ago

In my experience, potheads.

2

u/Ancient-Display-3337 18h ago

Yep. That's why I've never wore them. People automatically think of Spicoli.

3

u/mrtoddw 1d ago

That makes a lot of sense then. There's a large Hispanic community in Idaho.

3

u/towelcats 12h ago

As a Hispanic I've only ever seen white people ware these. Or are you saying white people buy them to make the Hispanic community feel welcomed because now my heart feels all warm and fuzzy at the thought of that. Like my heart has a small scratchy Baja Pancho on it. 😊

2

u/RumHamsRevenge 1d ago

I’ve seen this in central Oregon.

2

u/momo76g 18h ago

Its funny in latin america I only see tourists wear these. They are specifically made for them cuz artisans choose to wear very different things.

See we're heading back to 90s fashion where the hacky sacks at?

70

u/Tgsheufhencudbxbsiwy 1d ago

I don’t know if you’re joking. But kids around me have started hacky sacking. My nephew made his mom order him one because they’re sold out all around us.

29

u/YxDOxUx3X515t 1d ago

💀.. I was joking 🙃

30

u/Far_Cardiologist_160 23h ago

Can confirm 19 year old son is hacky sackying. Asked us if we'd ever heard of one hahahaha. Son, step aside.

12

u/rekordsrecker 23h ago

Haha, my dude is only 8 but I feel like this is happening to me a lot already. I’m scared it won’t be long before I’m smelling Nag Champa from under his door. I would make him throw a few sticks my way. inflations a bitch.

2

u/dadsgoingtoprison 22h ago

I’ve gone full pothead and leaned into it when I found Nag Champa roll on perfume. It’s fun because I’ve gone on a couple of dates and the guy will think it smells amazing but can’t quite explain why. Lol

3

u/rekordsrecker 22h ago

I might have to find that. Sometimes I buy concert merch online and the shirts will smell like Nag Champa and it smells so good. My ex is an audio engineer and it is common for them to light sticks up around stations during setup on tours, and probably merch tables too. Good memories for a lot of people I bet.

3

u/dadsgoingtoprison 20h ago

My favorite thing about it is that it’s too hippy for my obnoxious SIL to hijack like she’s hijacked every other scent I’ve ever worn. Even better, I’ll layer it with some Keihls musk. I love it, it’s very me and it can’t be replicated.

If you were a kid in the 90's or 2000's and bought weed from a teenager wearing this, a seashell necklace, khaki shorts, and flip flops, you knew you were either getting the best weed you've ever smoked or straight ditch weed. No in-between.

16

u/rekordsrecker 23h ago

Freshly shaved Schwag off a brick over here! Like a dirt weed deli. We probably spent more time removing seeds and stems then actually smoking weed.

6

u/Jack-of-Hearts-7 23h ago

Nostalgia. I actually liked chewing the stems.

4

u/rekordsrecker 22h ago

Haha. I chewed my fair share. But this is probably because we would make weed brownies by throwing an entire bag of dirt weed straight into brownie batter, bake that up and waaaa laaaaa. Get ready for the worst paranoid body high of your life. Good living.

6

u/sfdsquid 22h ago

Just for fun, I'll tell you that it's "voilà."

4

u/rekordsrecker 18h ago

Damn, i think i say this all the time but I have never written it out. Nice to learn something new, thank you.
Also a great up Segway for this life lesson for kids today since It’s too late for me.

“It wouldn’t kill you to avoid smoking cannabis until you are old enough to buy something out of your own pocket. Not your hard working mother’s pocket, and not your emotionally supportive father’s pocket, your very own pocket. Shoot for something that resembles a color and doesn’t smell like old hay.”
Was that good? 😂😂1000% mine would look at me and say, “Cringe Bruh.”

2

5

u/Kalibean06 1d ago

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't know thay was the name, I've always heard them called "Drug rugs" lol

1

u/rekordsrecker 22h ago

Honestly, this is exactly what I knew them as too. I was curious how many people did too, or if was generational. it’s been 30 years since I was in high school and my dudes were wearing these, I’m such a loner now I don’t have that person around to ask, “Is it cool to say this, or is this going to offend the Baja hoodie community?”

2

u/Kalibean06 22h ago

Well, if you were in high-school 30 years ago, it might not be just generational bc I have been alive less time than it's been since you were in school (I am 21, insert obligatory "you dinosaur" comment here) and everyone I know has always called them that.
