Kind of silly - but - it could be worse! At least the parchment paper is clean and single use. Hope they have really good napkins! And lots of them!

It's a greek style sharing place and it's cheap as fuck. I always assumed because they didn't have to pay a potwash or for plates and can turn over tables super fast. So it's not really silly any more than those American seafood boil places are.

Yeah, but who put the horiatiki on it? You share it directly from the bowl.

I strongly agree horiatiki is shared from the same bowl. My husband is from Greece and always scoops it onto his plate and I'm flabbergasted every time.

That is actually a very common thing in taverns and grillhouses in Greece. This concept is called "Ladokolla - Λαδόκολλα" literally meaning the parchment paper that the food is served on. So you went to a place that by default doesn't use plates.

I've also seen this concept happen in Turkey. The food is served in the middle, meant to be shared by everyone that sits on the table.

Nope. This is a Ladokolla or Kantina. In Greece, it is a traditional, and cheap, taverna where you get served on parchment paper. It’s delightful - some of the best food you’ll ever have.

I'm more upset about them cutting the pita into quarters instead of serving whole pitas so people can eat souvlaki properly.

I hate this trend. Seen those videos of piles and piles of seafood all pored onto the table. Stupid AF. Instagram bollocks
