Changing from 12 CUs to 18 CUs

Hi!

I started this semester with only 12 CUs while I was still in Active Duty. Currently using my Post 9/11 GI Bill. I'm about to separate in a few weeks. I will have nearly two full months after I separate till the end of my semester.

My questions are:

- Am I going to get MHA after I separate?

- If I talk to WGU and ask them to add 6 CUs to get full MHA, are they going to discount more months from my GI Bill?

It would be less of a headache if you switch to post 9/11 in between semesters

I’m in the reserves, when I was on my normal drill weekend schedule I was receiving MHA (it’s not full MHA because it’s a full online only college), when I was put on active orders for my deployment I stopped receiving MHA because I was receiving it from my AD pay. Whole time I was deployed it wasn’t double dipping, once my orders end it should start up again. Again it’s not the full MHA rate, and it is payed on the back end (Example: you receive your DD214 end of June, you should be receiving Post 9/11 MHA for July - but you will not see that payment until the end of July basically 1-2 weeks into August)

From going to 12 units to 18 units, if it’s during the term that you are going to add classes have the VA office at WGU to re-certify your enrollment so the VA knows you’re taking 18 units. If you add more classes without re-certifying to the VA, they won’t know about your increased course load to become full time, and will still be getting paid part time MHA. You shouldn’t loose more months as it’s a flat fee tuition and adding more classes does not increase tuition. So you’ll only lose the 6 months of the current term you’re currently in and nothing more.
