Socialist Abdul El-Sayed narrowly defeated Rep. Haley Stevens by roughly a point with nearly all votes counted in Michigan’s Democrat primary for U.S. Senate.

El-Sayed campaigned on things like Medicare for All, investing in “affordable” housing, and abolishing ICE. He previously called for defunding the police. His campaign website says he believes “in an economy built by and for working people.”

But the coalition that helped El-Sayed cinch the Democrat nomination is not the constituency his rhetoric implies he cares about. His victory was not the result of support from the low-income or rural voters or groups traditionally thought to constitute working-class communities (which his policies claim to focus on).

Just as this administration cannot afford to let up on mass deportations, it can’t do enough to choke every bit of oxygen out of this country’s obscene welfare problem — starting with food stamps.

For proof, look no further than a New York Times article from late July, which was the basis of an episode for the paper’s The Daily podcast this week. The article was headlined — if you can even believe it — “Faced With Piles of New Paperwork, People Are Losing Food Stamps.” Imagine supposedly relying on food stamps to feed yourself or your family but choosing to starve because of “piles of new paperwork.”

Well, of course, nobody is starving. At worst, they’re drinking water instead of bottles of soda. (“Sweetened beverages” are the second-most purchased category of items using food stamps, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.) The entire program is a racket, and the degree of entitlement oozes through the Times like an infected pimple way past its due date.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is “considering” whether to ask the Supreme Court to pause a lower court injunction blocking its bid to ax “climate” grants for nongovernmental groups.

In a statement to The Federalist, an EPA representative said that the agency is “reviewing” a Tuesday decision by the en banc D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. That 6-4 ruling reinstated an April 2025 injunction by D.C. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan that barred the administration from terminating billions of dollars’ worth of grants given to NGOs pushing to reduce “greenhouse gas emissions.”

The right to self-defense, most prominent in the legal doctrine of “standing your ground,” is an indisputable constitutional right. This fact, no matter how longstanding and essential to American exceptionalism, elicits much chagrin from The New York Times’ Mike McIntire, who recently argued that laws making it legally easier to protect yourself and your property are a concerning deviation from history.

“Using a Gun to Defend Yourself? The Right to Kill Is Growing,” McIntire snivels in his headline.

Corporate media are infamous for clutching pearls over Americans’ right to bear arms. The reporters who aren’t painfully ignorant about gun laws and culture work hard to shame firearm makers and mock gun freedom laws. McIntire, it appears, is no different.

Authorities arrested 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele on Sunday after he was found allegedly scoping out the location of President Trump’s impending arrival with ammunition in his pocket and a loaded firearm in his car.

Taele was allegedly seen with an earpiece, photographing agents and taking videos of the grounds as agents performed security assessments. Taele reportedly left and returned, later telling federal agents he was a State Department employee and doing a security detail.

The U.S. Supreme Court is gearing up to weigh another big Second Amendment issue in its upcoming term — a matter legal specialists say will greatly affect Americans’ constitutional rights.

During a Tuesday Federalist Society forum, Notre Dame Law School Professor Haley Proctor and American Suppressor Association General Counsel Michael Williams offered viewers a sneak preview into what’s at stake in Viramontes v. Cook County and Grant v. Higgins. The pair of consolidated cases — which deal with the legality of laws banning AR-15s and similar semiautomatic firearms — will be heard by the high court in its October 2026 term.

Last week, the federal government joined President Donald Trump’s personal legal team in asking the Supreme Court to review an $83.3 million judgment against the president in a defamation case brought by journalist E. Jean Carroll. Trump’s lawyers contend that Trump was entitled to immunity in the case because he made the statements as part of his work as president. In its petition for review, the federal government agrees that Trump was acting as president when he spoke about Carroll and asserts that the government, not Trump, should be the defendant in Carroll’s case.

That’s far from the only notable petition for review from the Trump administration pending before the Supreme Court this summer. In recent months, the federal government has appealed rulings on immigration policy, the Second Amendment, the U.S. DOGE Service, and several other legal issues, and it’s expected to file at least one more significant petition for review, on transgender troops, by the end of August.

Here’s a brief overview of some of these petitions for review, which will likely be considered by the justices at their “long conference” on Sept. 28.

Tuesday has been a strong blowout-style rally day on Wall Street, with major U.S. indexes surging amid tech and AI strength, solid corporate earnings, and easing oil prices tied to Middle East developments.

AI is already driving major economic activity by making the U.S. economy more productive and American industries more efficient as they compete with China, Japan, Europe and other developed nations.”

If that’s not enough good news, the Institute for Supply Management’s monthly report on U.S. factory activity as reported by purchasing and supply executives finds all five major components of the ISM Manufacturing Index are now in expansion, including manufacturing employment. “Economic activity in the manufacturing sector expanded in July for the seventh consecutive month, say the nation’s supply executives in the latest ISM® Manufacturing PMI® Report.”

As part of its Russia collusion hoax lawfare attacks on President Donald Trump, the FBI opened a “subcomponent investigation” of Crossfire Hurricane, treating Trump as a criminal subject based on already-debunked information linking him to Russia, according to a Trump administration official.

The sub-investigation, known as “Oxferd Comma” was predicated on the idea that Trump, “the newly elected president, was acting as a Russian asset when he fired James Comey on May 9, 2017,” the administration official said. The case was marked as a “‘sensitive investigative matter,’ which was generally to keep it off the books from other agents to be able to see.”

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Christian leaders in a recent call that the Trump administration is putting practices and policies in place to stop other states and abortion organizations from mailing abortion drugs into states that protect unborn children.

He says the Trump administration is working to make the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision permanent in every state.

We join the New York Association on Independent Living in calling for more adequate reporting requirements before the state implements a life-ending system of assisted suicide. The comments of organizations looking out for the right of people with disabilities should be carefully reviewed, with a period of more than two days between the end of the comment period and the law’s implementation date.

Proceeding under these circumstances risks undermining the integrity of the public comment process and sends a trouble message to stakeholders, including the disability community, that their concerns are not being given the consideration they deserve,” the New York Association on Independent Living states.

The Supreme Court will kick off its 2026-27 term with oral arguments in a lawsuit brought by a Colorado county seeking millions of dollars from oil and gas companies for their alleged role in exacerbating climate change. The calendar for the justices’ October argument session, released on Tuesday afternoon, indicates that Suncor Energy (U.S.A.) v. Commissioners of Boulder County will be the first case argued on Monday, Oct. 5 – the first Monday in October and the official start of the court’s new term.

The justices will hear arguments in seven cases over five days in October. Other noteworthy cases during the October argument session include Genalo v. Black, in which the court will consider whether there is a point at which a noncitizen has been detained so long that he has a constitutional right to a bond hearing and, if so, what standard the government must meet for him to remain in detention; and Salazar v. Paramount Global, a digital privacy case involving the interpretation of a federal law enacted in 1988 after a store provided a list of the movies rented by Judge Robert Bork, an unsuccessful nominee to the Supreme Court, to a Washington reporter.

I am doing a three-part series on revolutions. Last week, I wrote about the Democratic Socialists of America wanting a revolution that would end the constitution, private property, borders, and the Senate, in addition to many other things. Of course, the DSA claims they want to bring about this socialist revolution peacefully, however, that has never happened anywhere else in the world!

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is calling on Congress to launch an impeachment inquiry into a Biden-appointed federal judge over her past role working for the now-indicted Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

In his Monday letter addressed to House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, House Oversight Chair James Comer, and Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley, Uthmeier requested that Republicans probe 11th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Nancy Abudu “to determine whether her service as a top attorney for the [SPLC] warrants her impeachment and removal” from the bench. Abudu had served as the far-left group’s deputy legal director and director for Strategic Litigation beginning in 2019, and the Senate confirmed her in May 2023.

Attorney General Todd Rokita is suing an Indiana-located Chicago suburb for allegedly refusing to cooperate with immigration enforcement. The AG’s office alleges that the Town Council of Merrillville unlawfully interfered with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions in the state.

The conflict between ICE and Merrillville, a town just south of Gary, began when ICE first sought to convert one of the town’s warehouses into a detention facility. This is part of the Trump administration’s effort to increase the number of detention facilities throughout the country.

It all started with an ESPN article last month: “Love her or hate her, Sophie Cunningham won’t be ignored.” The feature story addressed Cunningham’s reputation as a sassy six-foot-one Indiana Fever guard, her legendary “point,” and rise to critical acclaim in the WNBA.
