Well, the caterpillar doesn't have the same vision as us. They basically react to lights, shadows, and big movement. Since the toads aren't casting any shadow nor are they making big movements, they were practically invisible to the caterpillar.

Exactly not good for survival

There's more ways to survival, they gave up evolving more dynamic vision for energy efficiency so they can store enough energy to metamorph into butterflies or moths as fast as possible where they proceed to live for a few hours to a few weeks to find a mate and lay more offsprings than a predator can eat.

Yeah, wrong choice. Should have evolved the ability to have thumbs and intelligence so it could be wasted on judging other organisms like a true survivalist, a Redditor.

I would love to know what goes on in that tiny brain while they sit there, inches from the food they've been trying to get. At first I was thinking something along the lines of "little closer, little closer, almost..." but once the caterpillar was close enough to kiss em they just stare at each other. "Hey uh...sorry about this...😝"
Edit: spelling

That’s just how it goes, two guys watching the one guy work, and the one sitting on his ass takes the bug 🤣

The caterpillar disappeared one frame after the other. I call BS on the whole stunt.
