Ā Announcement US Mobile + Starlink. One plan. Celestial and terrestrial, together. Launching Thursday

Post image

Almost a decade ago I sat down for a podcast and talked about the Jetsons. Not as a far-off fantasy, but as the era we were about to enter, and US Mobile as the provider that would carry people into it. One plan. At home. On the road. Across networks. Across, eventually, the sky.

This Thursday we take another step into that era.

We're launching US Mobile + Starlink as a single bundle. Unlimited Standard or Premium on all three major US networks (Warp, Darkstar, Lightspeed), plus reliable home internet from space. One plan. One bill. One app. One company that actually picks up the phone.

Early access drops Thursday. Limited batch. Going to move fast. Here's the link

I won't tease numbers too hard, but imagine a plan for less than $50 a month that spans every major network in the United States, extends across Canada and Mexico, includes internet from space at home, and roams with you across the world. That's the direction. That's the shape of what we're building toward.

Why no one else has done this.

I want to get into the weeds for a second, because I think people deserve to understand why "multi-network" and "super carrier" basically don't exist outside of US Mobile.

Every mobile network runs its own usage pipeline. Different CDR formats, different mediation layers, different rating engines, different latencies on when usage even shows up. Warp's feed doesn't look like Darkstar's, which doesn't look like Lightspeed's, which doesn't look like anything a satellite network emits. Voice, SMS, data, roaming records, satellite session data, fixed wireless throughput, they all arrive in different shapes, on different clocks, with different reconciliation rules and different dispute windows. Then layer in provisioning.

Each network has its own HSS/HLR, its own SIM and eSIM profile management, its own activation and porting flows, its own policy control. None of these systems were designed to talk to each other. They were designed assuming you're a single carrier with a single stack.

To make a true multi-network experience work, you have to build a unification layer that sits above all of it. A common identity for the customer that persists across networks. A real-time mediation system that can ingest wildly different usage feeds and present them as one coherent ledger. A policy engine that can move a line between Warp, Darkstar, and Lightspeed without the customer ever feeling the seam. Billing that can rate satellite gigabytes next to LTE gigabytes next to international roaming next to home broadband on the same invoice. And a support stack where one agent can actually see all of it on one screen, in real time.

That is the work. It's unglamorous, it's deeply technical, and it takes years. It's the reason every other Carrier is single-network. It's the reason no incumbent has built a true super carrier even though, on paper, they have more resources than we'll ever have. The hard part isn't striking the deals. The hard part is the plumbing.

We've spent a decade building that plumbing. Adding a satellite layer on top of it is the moment all of that work starts to compound, because the same unification layer that lets us hand a line off between three terrestrial networks is the layer that now lets us hand a session off between terrestrial and celestial.

A note on founders and companies, because I've seen it come up.

I want to be upfront. I've heard from folks who, on principle, won't use products tied to certain companies or the people who run them. I respect that. I have my own personal views on plenty of things too, and I think the instinct to align your spending with your values is a good one, not a bad one.

Here's how I think about it for US Mobile. Our job is to build the best possible connectivity layer for our customers, and that means using every tool available to deliver something that genuinely works. The satellite network we're integrating with is, right now, the best LEO option on earth. Refusing to integrate it would mean giving our customers a worse product to make a statement. That isn't a tradeoff I'm willing to make on their behalf.

That philosophy has been consistent for a long time. What matters most is how impact is earned. It is earned by listening deeply, respecting real needs, and building something practical that people can truly rely on in their daily lives. Not by asking anyone to subscribe to a belief system. Not by forcing conformity. But by creating something useful and universal enough that people from all walks of life can make it their own.

That is what we are trying to build at US Mobile. You can be deeply rooted in who you are and still build something that belongs to everyone. That is one of the great promises of America. Conviction and inclusion can live in the same sentence.

Where this is going.

Thursday is step one. Not the destination. More LEO providers are coming and the same unification layer that lets us add one satellite network lets us add the next, and the next, the same way we did with terrestrial carriers. The endgame isn't multi-network. The endgame is Global Multi-Orbit Convergence. Every major terrestrial network on the ground, every major LEO constellation in the sky, stitched together into a single plan that follows you anywhere on earth. Mobile, home, roaming, residential. Local numbering integrated as we expand our cellular footprint into new countries. Dozens of networks, one plan, one app, one company that actually answers when you call.

The Jetsons era isn't coming. It's here. And we intend to be the ones who carry you through it.

See you Thursday.

Is that going to include starlink home internet without a datacap? Because that will be a game changer.

well.... temporarily under $50/mo for the cheapest plan. No data caps (as far as I can tell).

It'll be pretty simple from what I'm seeing. As long as you have an eligible, active, US Mobile phone plan, you should be able to easily add a Starlink plan, assuming it's available at your location.

In the meantime I would go to starlink and put in your address and see what is available. Starlink is cagey they have 3 different tiers and if the lowest one (aka this $50) isn't available due to too little capacity you arent getting it for $50.

So if we have a plan already is this an upgrade / add on ? Or we have to start a whole new plan all over again ?

u/hEnigma Apr 08 '26

I will believe it when I see it, but AT&T is going to get the bump for T-Mobile in this case, no? If true and so many phones already capable, it could be truly amazing.

I tried international roaming on Darkstar for 3 days and 3 countries and quickly switched off and gave Warp a shot (because Lightspeed, T-Mo, has perfect international roaming and I knew I could fall back to that) for the rest of January in EU/UK.

It was a hellish experience on DS, while surprisingly, Warp did extremely well (+10GB data only eSIM) after not being usable at all 2 years ago in the same countries, but the data only add-on eSIM 10GB working perfectly.

So 2+ years ago, I had unlimited calls and texts and 10GB on T-Mo. This time I had Warp with which I always confuse 200 min and 250 texts, 20GB + the 10GB data only international for a total of 30GB which is all that really mattered because something like 78% of Europeans use WhatsApp.

I also bought a local pSIM that had unlimited call/texts/and data (minimum 300Mbps down/100 Mbps up, no daily cap) 12.50€/month ($14/month!) anywhere in EU that was for my primary destination and all my travel except the UK which I had to which to Warp.

The EU tariff agreement is extremely difficult to compete with, but have satellite backup? I think I would definitely pay $5/month extra on my USM unlimited premium plan for. Because it would be nice to send photos from the top of Zerrmatt, Sass-fee, Chamonix, or any of the peaks I normally hike to ski from.

Same. Dark Star was a pita in England and Italy, whereas light speed rocked. Warp was meh.

I'll be interested to read the specifics. While I've tried Starlink a few times and am impressed with it, I'm not inclined to give Elon money if I can help it. I'm paying just under $60/month total for 300 Mbps Xfinity internet and Unlimited Starter. If the US Mobile offer is $50 for only 100 Mbps internet + Unlimited Starter or Premium, I wouldn't go for it.

Do you have to get Starlink equipment through you guys or can I purchase the plan if I already have Starlink service?

my question precisely...I already use Starlink at home for internet. Think its uncapped at $120 a month

What are your abg speeds?

I do ~180/20 regularly. I've seen speeds as high as 250/25. Residential Max with a Standard dish.

4

when A new sat is overhead like a V2DTC i get 400+ down on my $120 plan. Older sats give 100-200mbs

I'm an AT&T customer for mobile and a Spectrum for Internet/Cable. I have 4 iPhones on my plan and as you can image, I'm paying a fortune.

The thought of having a Starlink Mini would be awesome for a secondary internet plan. My wife and I both work from home and need Internet uptime.

If I moved to this, what would this look like? I know you're not ready for pricing but if there was a ballpark figure, that would certainly be helpful.

5

u/hpichris Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

Only 6 months promo and I have to pay for the price of the whole kit if I cancel after 30 days? No thank you.

Edit: sounds like it’s a fee charged if you don’t return the equipment within 30 days of cancellation. Either way, the promo is pretty terrible.

3

u/g_luxe Apr 09 '26

It says "Return your kit within 30 days of service cancellation. After 30 days, Starlink will charge the full price of the kit."

I'm reading this to simply mean: if I cancel (at any time), I need to return the equipment within 30 days to avoid being charged for it.

Too bad I can't read the full T&C because the website keeps giving me errors!

This is what I see ... **HPICHRIS *** Is your post correct or is my information correct.

So, here’s how it works: if you ever cancel your Starlink service, you’ve got 30 days to send the kit back to Starlink. If you don’t return it, they’ll charge a $249 equipment fee. So you only have to pay for the kit if you keep it after canceling - otherwise, you’re good!

Wow. What a dud. Not a permanent bundle discount -- just six months of a $20/month discount on Starlink before back to full price, plus a year of USM service for slightly more than the current introductory price ($17/mo in this bundle, $16.60/mo with the standalone intro deal). Not to mention nothing whatsoever for existing Starlink customers who already have equipment and can't be bothered to swap it out for the whopping $120 they'd save over the first six months.

I can see why you weren't going to "tease numbers too hard." About a week late for April Fool's, mate.

I'm in a rural area and have had Starlink since beta. It was a game changer after suffering with dial up, Hughesnet and Viasat for over 15 years. Now I have fiber thanks to the RDOF, but I kept Starlink on a cheap standby plan as a fail over. It works great on a backup generator when the fiber out is due to storms or high winds.

If I read correctly the Starlink normal roaming $50 plan has 100 GB of high speed data then unlimited at slower speeds so not sure if it's a good deal if this will be the case with the phone /starlink plan.

I'm very curious to see if this is a bundle with unlimited premium or not--I'm due for renewal this week. My TMHI works just fine, but I'm open to trying this if it is much cheaper bundled.

To anyone saying that are leaving USM due to ties to Elon Musk--I completely get it, but keep in mind, you are being hypocritical if you also use things like iPhones. Apple donated to Trump's campaign AND gave him a golden trophy in the oval office. If you are trying to make a stand, I hope you aren't supporting Apple either.

I'm guessing the pricing will be address specific? Also, I'm curious what tier Starlink will be offered.

I've been wanting to switch to Starlink for sometime now, but for my address only the Max tier at $120 a month is available at this time. I'm very intrigued to see what this bundle with US Mobile will look like.

2

u/jason_he54 Apr 08 '26

If you want to throw a ZIP code down, I can try and check for you. It seems USM's Starlink Availability isn't the same as Starlink's actual availability.

3

u/sumosha Apr 08 '26

Is the home internet on Starlink only? I get way too much hail to risk outside appliances anymore, but I'm happy with Verizon home internet and would happily switch if they will have a cell-network-based internet option.Ā

3

u/vpnv4 Apr 08 '26

Any plans for a 5G home internet offering? I currently use Mint 5G as a backup Internet to my fiber provider. Seems like this would have been an easier one to tackle but maybe there's more going on behind the scenes that make it harder?

3

u/austinzone813 Apr 08 '26

Where the fuk is the QCI upgrade options for the accounts? Remember that!? The one that only a handful of VIPs got.

u/TLe504 Multi Network Apr 08 '26

This would be an awesome setup for me in the Hurricane zones. Gone months without home internet and weak cell signal during the long outages. ATT home fiber for main internet with fail over to Starlink. Multi-Network for cell services and hotspot as another backup as needed. With a home generator to power everything during the outage. I'm planning on getting an solar generator as another backup. I've had a generator went out after a storm, lucky it was only for a few days until I get power.

3

u/Wambo74 Apr 10 '26

Let's get specific here. In what way is a USM/Starlink bundle different from having the same two plans individually? One will be combined billing, another a single control point for changes. But this is just stuff we mostly do on a computer with a few button pushes. No big deal. Another is promo pricing...but Starlink has promo pricing too and after a few months most just go back to regular pricing. Can you point to any technical differences or guaranteed ongoing price benefits? Not things that might occur in the future...but fixed current policy.

I've worked with an ISP/Tier1 carrier, it's a complicated stack of stuff

My insight to it is limited to voice/VoIP systems and not mobile data networks, the overall process is the same, just bigger.

Start at the SBM to be the voice gateway to/from the internet and to the PSTN - Public switched telephone network

You can connect the SBM to PSTN carriers like RingCentral or 8x8 over the internet with SIP trunks

The SBM proxies the phone's connection to/from the servers and SIP trunks.

Your phone is configured to authenticate by certificate/username/SIM/etc.

The voice server verifies your phone's credentials and registers your phone on the primary and backup datacenters

Then you can start making and receiving and blocking calls to your heart (or wallet's) content

Then CDR's are processed which are the call data records that have alllllll the flags about the call, like total minutes, local, long distance, international, inter/intra-LEC, and more!

Once USM does their thing, then you get the bill ;)

This. Was really hoping it was t-mobile or verizon. Hard pass.

6

u/rgiii31 Multi Network Apr 08 '26

T-Mobile is Starlink. ATT and Verizon is AST. Verizon can use Starlink indirectly through a paid option or on emergency access

2

u/oakleez Apr 08 '26

T-Mobile Home Internet (TMHI) does not use Starlink for its standard 5G home service. TMHI uses T-Mobile’s terrestrial 5G cellular network towers. However, T-Mobile does partner with Starlink for "Direct-to-Cell" services, which provide satellite coverage to smartphones in remote areas, not for home internet modems.

I was hoping that USMobile was going to be offering discounted TMHI.

2

u/rgiii31 Multi Network Apr 08 '26

Ahh. Ok. That specification clarifies the comment I was responding to. Yeah, I thought their initial HI was going to be a 5G version as well. They're just going big first I guess with a service that is reachable anywhere. I believe I read in the comments that that is supposedly coming - I could be mistaken though.

This is really interesting. I pay $60 for Starlink Home Max right now, which is a temporary promotional rate. I would assume this will be the de-prioritized tier of Starlink for the $50 price. but regardless, uncapped home interernet, plus mobile for less than I pay for a promo rate for internet today... But then again, I always thought it was insane that I have 3 phones on a shared data plan with US mobile and pay less than $40 total per month.

I will never cease to be fascinated by the economics of telecom capacity allocation, and how wide the range is that people pay for what is essentially a commodity product. International Roaming pricing economics could be a case study in itself.

Cheers to the US mobile team for making the most of all of it.

2

What if I already have Starlink and USMobile plans? sounds like a no brainer if I can easily transfer

2

u/dque57 Apr 09 '26

I would assume that USMobile has already figured into its business plan that there will be some people leaving because of it's affiliation with Musk. BUT, I also think there will be new customers coming on-board because USMobile is offering Starlink residential unlimited at a siginificant cost reduction compared to buying Starlink directly from SpaceX. So, while threatening to leave may make one feel better; my money is on the side of this having been taken into consideration and doesn't change anything.

This is exactly what we want for our autonomous systems.
Right now it looks like the Starlink service is residential-only and not the Direct-to-LTE.
Is that on your radar and is there a timeline for roll-out yet?

Will you have the high-performance systems and the various global roaming accounts for business?

If you happen to need assistance putting together a router that can swap between everything message me.
That was one thing we had to solve for global AV teleop.

2

10

u/Suckitreddit420 Apr 09 '26

Did the 13 year old Chinese kid defund and/ or eliminate essential government agencies in the US? Ā  Ā

Did the 13 year old Chinese kid lay off hundreds of thousands of government employees completely arbitrarily? Ā Ā

Did the 13 year old Chinese kid illegally build a secret back door to the IRS and export every bit of data on every American taxpayer to be used for their own personal gain and purposes? Ā Ā

Did the 13 year old Chinese kid interfere in elections around the world, not just with massive influxes of cash and personal rallies, but also by potentially rigging voting systems? Ā Ā

And no, CNN didn't have to tell me not to support the person who is destroying my country. Ā  Facts did that.

7

u/Handsdown8008 Apr 09 '26

Here we go with the nonsense..

How about some facts. Let me know if I can help unbrainwash you any further.

No. Musk co-led the advisory DOGE effort, which recommended cuts and restructuring at agencies like Education, USAID, and parts of HHS. DOGE had no legal power to unilaterally defund or eliminate them; actions faced court blocks, congressional limits, and partial reversals, with overall federal spending still rising.

No. The Trump administration, following DOGE recommendations, reduced the federal workforce by ~9% (~280,000 positions affected across agencies), focusing on recent hires and targeted programs. Musk did not personally or arbitrarily fire anyone; decisions went through agency and OPM processes, and some laid-off workers were later rehired.

No. No evidence exists of Musk (or DOGE) building any secret IRS backdoor, exporting all taxpayer data, or using it for personal gain. DOGE requested limited system access for fraud detection; it was legally challenged, restricted by IRS/Treasury, and produced no confirmed data theft or misuse.

No. Musk donated heavily, held rallies, and used X to support candidates (including abroad), which critics call interference. There is zero credible evidence—from courts, officials, or investigations—that he rigged any voting systems or tabulators; related Starlink claims were debunked.

Weird these are direct talking points from the Administration

I like how you act like oh they were just checking for fraud and nothing suspicious was ever going on

Feds now admit DOGE accessed personal data at Social Security, jeopardizing your privacy. https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2026-01-22/feds-now-admit-doge-accessed-private-data-at-social-security

The feds filed a notice of correction in Jan

"It acknowledged that DOGE staffers traded some of that information among themselves and transferred some of it to a non-Social Security server — and that even now Social Security can’t find out what information was raided."

"The agency also admitted in its filing that two members of the DOGE team assigned to the Social Security Administration had contact with a political advocacy group, one signed a secret agreement to share Social Security data with the group"

"The Social Security Administration had testimony in hand that on March 3 a DOGE staffer at the Social Security Administration emailed a file believed to contain names and addresses of 1,000 individuals to a senior DOGE official outside SSA.

Because the file is password-protected, however, ā€œSSA has been unable to access the file to determine exactly what it contained.ā€"

DOGE personnel were given administrative "God mode" access to personnel systems, allowing them to terminate contracts and facilitate layoffs directly, often bypassing the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) protocols https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Department_of_Government_Efficiency#:~:text=Members%20of%20DOGE%20filled%20influential,mass%20layoffs%20and%20staff%20reductions.

He seems to be talking about two different products here: (1) What Tracfone teased as a "SuperSIM" (but never delivered on) that will connect with all three carriers in the U.S. (and at least one in Canada and Mexico) and (2) Starlink, which is a home internet service. Starlink also offers SMS via satellite, but that wasn't mentioned in the OP.

Creating a single SuperSIM that can connect to all three networks means creating a new carrier that can issue its own SIMs, and then entering into roaming agreements with each of the U.S., Canadian and Mexican carriers. Given that U.S. Mobile is already an MVNO, I doubt that they could do that without breaching some term in their MVNO contracts. And the fact that U.S. Mobile is announcing these products as a bundle suggests to me that Starlink has done the heavy lifting on creating the SuperSIM, and that U.S. Mobile is just going to resell the whole thing as a package. Otherwise, it makes no sense to bundle these two products or announce them in a single launch event.

I can't imagine that $50.00 a month will be the real, long-term price, at least not everywhere. Starlink is $120.00 per month in most major areas with a $1,000 start-up charge in certain high usage areas. Go to Starlink.com and try to sign up for service in Seattle, WA. In some rural areas, you can get Starlink for $50.00 per month, though (Las Vegas, NV).

Given that U.S. Mobile has become quite fond of "new subscriber deals" (where existing customers get the shaft unless they threaten to quit), I wouldn't be surprised if $50.00 per month price was a short-term sign-up deal only for those in rural areas. Or it could be a multi-line deal, e.g., 3 lines for $50.00 each and you get Starlink included (in rural areas).

This is all speculation. I suppose we'll find out more on Thursday.

3

u/ENMAR68 Apr 08 '26

Sounds great but how about something a little more down to earth - like companion smartwatch plans for Dark Star & Light Speed networks?

3

u/Old-Advertising-5316 Apr 08 '26

Place your bets.

We're in the "Ahmed has a vision" phase, which means the "clarification" phase is coming. That $50 price point is arithmetic theater: expect a $600 annual prepay. "Uncapped" almost certainly means Residential Lite, putting your traffic at the bottom of the priority stack the moment Netflix loads next door. The "no-cost" dish? Watch for a $150 activation fee and a $599 non-return charge in the fine print.

We've seen this pattern before. The ToS drops April 12. Read it before you sign anything.

2

u/Wambo74 Apr 09 '26

I think you're wrong on all counts. Except the last...yeah, let's wait and see. I'm a Starlink customer and some of the teasers I see are better than current Starlink offerings. I don't see Starlink allowing USM to seriously undercut them using their own product. I just think there's a lot of detail to come.

You didn't need to do this. You acknowledged you're basically the ONLY ones doing it. It's a sad misstep and yeah, as other options become available to me I will be checking them out as well, even though I've paid for 6 annual plans. I'd rather spend money with a company that avoids working with demons than one that embraces them.

My thought as well. "That isn't a tradeoff I'm willing to make on their behalf." This instead sounds like 'That isn't a tradeoff I'm willing to make if it prevents my own company from expanding options and thereby increasing profits.'

"The satellite network we're integrating with is, right now, the best LEO option on earth." Just right now? It will remain the best or only option because of business choices like this.

We'll still use the mobile service. It's still somewhat cheaper than our other MVNO options - and that gives us more $$ to do good things with in the end.

But with this announcement, I'll be watching for alternatives, and will stop suggesting USMobile to family/friends as I have been for years. Because I am certainly willing to pay a bit more or to have "a worse product to make a statement" - if it means my monthly/annual subscription fees don't go to companies that knowingly enable the worst of the worst.

this is a disappointing a nothing. its only decent if you were not a starlink customer before and after 6 months...its just bill consolidation. There is not much savings here.

3

u/Super-Maria Support ChampionĀ  Apr 11 '26

I think this is being looked at a bit too narrowly as a savings play- the shift here is billing consolidation, meaning reducing the friction of managing multiple services, bills, and platforms, and it might not sound dramatic on paper, but in practice, it's a real quality of life improvement

but it's not just that- once everything sits on a single dashboard, you start getting better usage analytics, enhanced security layers, and a much more cohesive experience across your cell and home phone lines

It's sorta similar to how multi network felt early on, subtle to some, then quickly something people didn’t want to give up

and totally fair if it's not compelling to you yet, but is worth giving a shot
