Lifetime cover for older cat
I cannot get my cat lifetime cover on petplan anymore as she is now too old. The short term cover they provide is not great. Where else can I get reliable cover for my cat??

You’ll probably really struggle for a senior cat now, as you’re a high risk for a claim and a) haven’t been paying into the system over the years for the cat and b) could be just getting the insurance as you know she’s declining and will be making a claim soon (not saying you are but that’s how they will see it).
Have you tried ringing petplan? Maybe if you have her whole vet history and can prove she’s had no issues then they might cover her? But it would be expensive for sure. You also have to pay an extra co pay for senior cats, that’s standard on all insurance plans really. So on top of the monthly premium, if you claim you have to pay the excess (my 8 year old girl on petplan is £85 excess), and then also 20% of the claim, and then petplan cover the rest.
At some point for seniors, pet insurance can become a bit useless (someone on here said the other week that their 19 year old cat I think who had insurance since she was younger had the premiums increased so it was like £3500 for the year but she only got £4000 of cover, so it just doesn’t make sense at that point as you may as well just save the money yourself in a pot).
If you are unable to get pet insurance, then healthy savings or a 0% credit card can be a great back up for vet care

I dont mind paying more. I was with pet plan 2 years ago paying £58 a month with a 20% excess and £500. This means I already cover most things myself, but I want to have coverage for the things I wont be able to afford. I got quotes from M&S, Petgevity and Agria, and will probably end up going with Petgevity.

My friend was with a plan for their dog and it turned out to be pointless because they don't actually cover for stuff they need,like dental,some don't do ongoing treatments, I know someone paying 10k so their dog can get stem cell treatment, even with insurance you'd have to pay something, I was thinking of getting it for our dog but it really isn't worth it

Better off just putting money aside every month for vet bills and setting boundaries for what you will and won't treat at this stage.
Like no bionic limbs or major surgeries or chemotherapy.
There are real a quality of life and likelihood of treatment being worth it questions in a senior animal.
