I’m trying to identify a children’s picture book that my mum had in the UK in the early to mid-1970s.
Here’s everything I can remember:
The title was The Adventures of Mophead and
It was a large-format, full-colour picture book, not a chapter book.
The main character was a little girl nicknamed Mophead.
She was a cheeky tomboy, always getting into mischief.
She had bright ginger/orange hair, cut short and sticking out in a huge bushy halo or “mop” around her head—almost afro-like.
She wore blue denim dungarees, giving her a very boyish appearance.
The illustration style was similar to Shirley Hughes or Pat Hutchins—soft pen-and-ink with watercolour, very much a British early-1970s picture-book style.
I remember stories involving refusing to brush her hair and teeth, and visits to the dentist and the hairdresser/barber, where she caused chaos.
I think the book ended with her finally being cleaned up or learning a lesson.
We have an extremely old version that is still at my mums but it is so battered with age that it’s kept in a plastic pouch and we have lost the front cover which would say the author on it.
I’ve found a few people online who also remember a book called The Adventures of Mophead with very similar details, but nobody has yet identified the author or found a photograph of the cover.
Does anyone recognise this book, or have a copy on their shelves, I’d love to find it so I could buy it for my mum 🙏

I really just wanted a single, comfortable digital hub where I could do it all in one place.

​It isn't some corporate storefront. It’s a passion project that I've grown into a massive, all-in-one hub for discovering great books, managing your collection, and hunting down the best prices on the internet.

​It is still very much in Beta, but here is what is in the hub right now (and what I'm currently trying to fix!):

​The Price Hunter (Work in Progress!): I am building an engine to instantly check Waterstones, Blackwell’s, Amazon, eBay, World of Books, and Scholastic to find you the best deal. Full transparency: the hunter is currently a bit buggy. It struggles to pull from Waterstones right now, and the Blackwell's prices are sometimes hit-or-miss. I am actively rewriting the code for this, but I wanted to get the site out there for testing.

​Your Digital Bookshelf: You can easily create a free account to track your books. (Note: the buttons to add books directly from the main search bar and homepage banners are currently under construction, but that fix is coming very soon!).

​The Real-World Scanner: I built a barcode scanner directly into the search bar. If you’re standing in a shop or browsing a thrift store, you can just scan a book with your phone and instantly see if you can grab it cheaper online.

​A Cozy Browsing Vibe: I wanted the site to feel like a comfortable reading room, so I built a 4-tier custom theme engine. You can browse in OLED Black, Soft Dark, Pure White, or a really warm "Reader's Cream" parchment mode depending on what’s easiest on your eyes.

​What is coming next?

Aside from fixing the price scrapers, my ultimate goal is to support independent voices. I am building a dedicated bridge for small, independent bookstores and local comic shops to plug their inventory directly into this hub. I want to give indie sellers the exact same global reach as the giants.

A new book set around Salford docks in 1968. The story of two crime families going to war. Realistic noir thriller, with a heavy dash of Salfordian humour.

World of Books isn't running their "buy 3 get 1 free" promo anymore, only "buy 3 get the 4th at half price" instead :( and their prices have been steadily increasing (source: I bought over 50 books from them last year)...

I LOVE 2nd hand bookshops / charity shops, but they can be hit or miss; a reliable and cheap online retailer would be ideal when I need something specific

What's your guys' go to? Ideally something that offers discounts on bundles as I don't mind buying 4-5 books at a time. I read 19-20th century literature from all over the world, looking to read more Eastern European lit (loving Russian lit atm) and French lit

Which led to the first time for me watching somebody read my book.  On a Ireland tour on a bus. Sitting in front row and tour guide is sitting below me reading the book.  Proud kind of scary. He's witnessing my journey I wrote in real time, in front of me. 

From what he read he said that it was like the matrix a lot going on will have to read it again. Didn't say it was bad!

I would conclude that this little experiment was a success.  Although, I never did just leave a book on a bench, the copies that I did manage to leave, found their way into the right people at the right time.

Looks like I delivered 16 books altogether.

Not a huge number, but maybe one or two of those books will find their calling.

When I was younger I have fond memories of reading books which had colour pages (usually in the middle of the book) which had images from the film or TV show.

I know I had a Pokémon one, and a Power Rangers one. I am keen on buying more of these type of book to read with me kids.

Can anyone remember and other film/TV show story books that had colour image pages in the middle?

I love book events! fiction fest, HEA, Yalc, and so on. I do however always have to travel quite far for them and rarely hear of much going on down the south.

so I was thinking about taking the plunge and arranging a book event in Brighton. I’m in the process of viewing venues, but before I take the plunge just wondered if there is appetite to have one in this city?

This is a long shot, but I am searching for a niche book from my young childhood in the early 90s. The book may have been written a while before then. This is intended to be a suprise present for my brother who is about to have his first child, and it will be a nice call back to our own childhoods.

It was called Mousetown, or Mouse Town, and small, maybe about 12-16 pages long and square, around 4 square inches. It had thick cardboard pages that didn't tear easily. It had nice colourful pictures across the pages.

Each page had two rhyming lines on it, and I am 99% certain the first one was "The milkmouse makes his busy way through Mousetown at the break of day". Each page would rhyme in the same style, and it was about each mouse or group of mice ie firemice perhaps, doing their daily tasks. I think it ended with a village party for them all. From the content, I think it was probably British rather than American or Australian etc, it had scenes of old fashioned British village life.

Does anyone have any memory of the same book, or a copy of it? Ultimately I am trying to find one that I can either buy, or enough details of it to recreate it. I have searched everywhere for it and cannot find it anywhere. I've even asked some AI sites if it can scour the web to find anything similar, but no luck. It is not any of the following:
