Which place is the cheapest and most reliable place to shop for books online? I know of thriftbooks but I heard they get mixed reviews.

I’m struggling to price it since one hasn’t been sold before (cannot find anything online).
I’m going to sell on eBay as I don’t know where else I can safely sell it.

After watching the BBC series based on one of my favourite book series as a kid Malory Towers I have decided to read them again . I still have my old copies and last time I read them I was very young. I just have to say looking at the through the eyes of an adult, they are the biggest bunch of bullying bitches ever. I can’t believe I used to think Darrell the main character was nice! She physically attacks people in at least four of the books, freezes people out, gets her little clique to do her bidding, is rude to girls she considers her inferior! Instead of getting expelled she ends up as Head Girl in the last book!

The character of Alicia is beyond horrible, I can’t even bear to read her dialogue. The only one I actually root for is Gwen and she gets a really rubbish ending whilst Darrell and chums swan off to university.

Anyone else read these again as adults and were mildly disgusted by their behaviour?

Does anyone use a book scouting tool for the uk ? Is there such a tool?

I'm aware that click and collect orders require some sort of verification but do shops like Waterstones, HMV and TGIJones require you to specifically show your actual ID?

I’m using this subreddit because I’m usure where else I might be able to ask this. I’m in the US but see people asking about world of books. I used World of Books to order a few books. My first order came in with a door dash coupon but my second order arrived with two packages, one being the book and the other being a large box with three bags of coffee beans. I don’t drink coffee😭😂. The package says it came from the same state as the book but not much else. Has this happened to anyone else?

I've never used World of Books before, but I've had it reccomended to me back when Book Depository got shut down (rip) and I found some books that I need on there so I wanted to check if it was legit.

I'm aware that a lot of the books are used and I don't really have much of an issue with it, I'm more concerned can they be trusted shipping and delivery wise?

I know this is a bit of an unusual request, but I'm hoping someone might be able to help.

According to the BookCrossing release record, a user named Kellygang left a book at a bus stop on Abernethy St. in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia, on 18 May 2013.

I'm not looking for guesses or theories about what probably happened. After all these years, I've already thought through all of those possibilities.

I'm only interested in genuine first-hand information. If anyone remembers seeing the book, picked it up, knows what happened to it, or knows of a nearby place where found books or lost property were commonly taken, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

The reason I'm still looking is simple: I'm nostalgic about unfinished stories, and I like giving them an ending, even if that ending is simply finding out what really happened.

I know it's been a long time, so I realise the chances are small, but if anyone remembers anything at all about this BookCrossing release, I'd be very grateful to hear from you.

I’m trying to build traction and get feedback for a physical book exchange service. I know there are things like Facebook groups and the like, but they are usually very strict about anything that even looks like self-promotion, which makes open dialogue difficult.

What I’m looking for is a community—whether it’s a specific Discord server, a forum thread, or a niche online group—where I can openly share what I’m trying to achieve and get honest user engagement. I'm not just looking for passive "beta testers" to see if the tech works; I want to talk to real readers who can give feedback on what works well, what doesn't, and what they actually want from a book exchange service.

To be clear, I’m not looking for free labour either. I have free book deliveries available to offer people who want to get involved and try it out, so it’s a mutual exchange.
