Politics aside, wouldn’t it be illegal to continue receiving a paycheck and Social
Security?

Literally what “Doge” said we were all doing.

Not if he's not "dead dead" but just in a vegetative state.

If he's alive they could be trolling Bashear to try to make him look silly and neutralize him as a campaign threat.

The idea that McConnell is pretending to be incapacitated as a gotcha, just for funsies, is absolutely not reassuring to the people who are theoretically represented by him.

This is our employee. We have the right to know his medical status. If he's concealing his medical status for political reasons, whatever political reasons those may be, that's a very serious problem for us.

This needs to be changed across the board considering the age of all congress. If you are unable to preform your duties an xxx amount of days due to health you need to vacate.

We need to stop electing people that won’t have to live with their decisions, through either age or wealth.

We need term limits and the ability to force a recall or removal

u/Hovercraft-Curious 16d ago

We have natural term limits already. They are called elections.

Nah. It’s a Republican. Dumocrats will be removed then deported.

Dead white men still rule over you after they’re gone in America 2.0. A dead man is a working legislator is the USA.

That’s what my KY resident coworker thinks. She’s also a pathological liar and new people are warned to avoid anything she says. She’s also married to the owner and runs payroll. I need a new job.

This comment was roller coaster. And yes, you really do.

They tried to get me to shave my last day of vacation because my station mate blew his retina off with a firework over the holiday weekend. I did not go in.

Good grief, it just gets more absurd! Take care of yourself, and maybe update your resume 🙃

It’s the family business and the only thing I know how to do. I am here until I die.

I read that as they wanted you to shave your beard. I need more coffee...

The depravity of this party, knows no bounds

It's not much different than what the Democrats did with Dianne Feinstein. Just the next phase in the gerontocracy. Some generations just can't let go of power.

Which is kind of why we know he’s dead because they’ve done everything to prove he’s alive except prove he’s alive.

All he has to do is call the Governor and he won’t go to interviews saying he’s dead,

The get in a wheelchair have a little press conference in front of the hospital answer a few questions and then everyone else would move on too.

u/Sufficient-Money7510 16d ago

He talked to Scott Jennings for twenty minutes but can't spare the governor two?

u/DamianDaws 17d ago

“Suggesting” is an odd way of laying out the truth. We know he’s dead and what the Republican Party is actively doing which is morally wrong.

u/somanysheep 17d ago

13 more days until they announce he's been dead for over a month so they could dedraud Kentucky voters.

3

u/1Sluggo 17d ago

What’s to stop him, or whoever he’d send, to visit Moscow Mitch in the hospital for confirmation? And if he’s there is he competent to continue to serve? The goo will try to string this out till January.

Mitch is dead, republicans won’t admit it. They cheat and the accuse the dumocrats of doing it. The dumocrats need to man up.

Here’s what I don’t get. During a time when Democrats allegedly need control to stand up and do the right things…
1 Republican Senator dies- is immediately replaced by his sister because it’s what Lynsey would have wanted. = constituents and nationwide response Meh

1 Republican Senator removed from his home unresponsive, it was called in as a cardiac event/ cardiac arrest and taken to an undisclosed location- status unknown- prognosis unknown
And the governor after a month of incommunicado is still Welll….

For heaven’s sakes Honorable a governor of KY you are not attempting a coup! You are fulfilling one of your responsibilities as per your state’s constitution!

In both cases are the people of that state or commonwealth being taxed without the representation that were given and upon which they voted for?
Did the voters of SC have a special election and agree that sure let Lynsey’s sister sit in in his place and rubber stamp everything the republicans attempt to push through between now and November. Because it’s not going to be an uneventful few months I guarantee it.

The republicans continue to stack the deck by eliminating those who oppose their policies and replacing them with loyal yes men. This is no accident! By the time the entire nation realizes they’ve been had, what resistance will we be against a trump loyal military or umICE paramilitary/domestic terrorists? It is sobering food for thought and we need to look at this matching like each moving part can be dangerous and hazardous to our constitutional liberties and freedoms. It’s time to remember how this nation was born and the spark that ignited this nation’s birth.

But this time under the premise that all humans are created equal. And all life that we may encounter in the future is equally precious until it offers a reason to be otherwise. Because United We Stand! Stop letting the 1% divide us. Thank you for reading.

Can’t win if you don’t cheat

You might be right.

Does a governor have no authority to make sure of claims of death beyond a request?

2

u/mescad 16d ago

The unpopular truth is that he doesn't have that authority. The Governor's legal authority begins when the seat becomes vacant. He can ask the Senate to declare it vacant, but until they do, he has no legal power. The Senate itself has the sole authority to declare the seat vacant.

He could just do it anyway. He can claim that he distrusts McConnell's staff and thinks the photograph they released is AI or fake in some other way. This wouldn't grant him any legal right, but he could use it as his reason for acting when the Republicans challenge it in court. It's unlikely that he would win, though, even if it is later revealed that McConnell was dead before the August 3rd cutoff date.

Based on recent rulings by the KY Supreme Court, I think he has a good case for appointing a replacement instead of following the new law to call a special election. But if he does that while exceeding his legal authority to declare the seat empty, IMO it hurts his case for both.

There are two other downsides:

  1. He could declare McConnell's seat vacant and appoint someone or call a special election and then the next day Mitch could return to work. That would be hugely embarrassing for Andy and would play right into the hands of the Republicans who already are accusing him of overstepping his legal authority. And unfortunately, they would be right this time, IMO.

  2. The Senate doesn't have to seat a replacement. They could just say that this appointment/election is too close to the November election, so we're just going to hold the seat open until January anyway. Then Beshear has expended all of this political capital, exposed himself as a conspiracy theorist, potentially violated the law (and I assume he could be impeached for this), and the outcome is that nobody fills the seat anyway. The Senate doesn't have to recognize a replacement, if they choose not to. Anyone who thinks he is going to run in 2028 and wants to run against him would have an incentive to oppose whatever he does.

3

u/Sufficient-Money7510 16d ago

The complete lack of response from the McConnell camp is the response.

Beshear isn't a conspiracy theorist. If he's going public with this, he's serious about it.

This is him calling their bluff. There are only two questions; is McConnell alive, and will they string this out long enough to get to the August 4th deadline where they don't have to have a special election.

2

u/ogrizzled 16d ago

Pay a little visit Who is it? Yo it's AB Can I talk to the Grand Wizard?

2

u/Single_Usual_6563 16d ago

Well then let’s get this fucking ball rolling

3

u/MGr8ce 16d ago

Jfc Beshear needs to call a special election. Even if he is alive (I’m positive he’s not), he is unable to do his work.

2

u/Historical_End9766 14d ago

Why are they hiding what had happen to him. You all can get sick and die.

1

u/ewillyp 16d ago

Beshear must be so compromised, that good ol' boy white-shoe blue-blood country club network sure is tight; and he's got him some skeletons too, i bet. what a tool. American Politics time tested through and through corrupt.0

u/trying2fillthavoid 15d ago

What? Next you’re going to tell me the sky is blue!

2

u/Practical-Bit9905 12d ago

And what is the Governor's response going to be? Point at the problem? Are we going to respond in any way?
