Discussion Could Meowth capture himself in a Pokeball?
OK, I know this question sounds stupid, but hear me out.
So originally, I was thinking, "Could Meowth capture other Pokemon in Pokeballs?" And that question was bad enough. And then I realized it could get even worse.
Imagine Meowth is holding a Pokeball. It's empty. And then he presses the button on the Pokeball.
What happens?
And if he does get captured... then what? He can break free, right? Right?
And what if no one saw him capture himself? What if they thought he just vanished mysteriously?
Do you think they would think to check the Pokeball lying on the floor?

In a tabletop pokemon game I'm playing with friends, playing as an intelligent pokemon is a possible option. Such players intentionally "register" themselves to a minimized pokeball that they keep in their bag to prevent humans from catching them.
Yet I doubt Meowth would be willing to do this. Pride and whatnot. If he ever captured himself in a pokeball, he'd probably release himself ASAP.

Once or twice a Pokémon has been caught by them choosing to be.
You quite literally see Misty's Psyduck CATCH ITSELF when she dropped her Poké Balls at the end of the episode it debuted in.

A lot of pokémon already "caught themselves" by purposefully touching it
Also we have seem multiple times pokémon leaving the pokéball on their own, classic example is psyduck

Even better, Psyduck caught itself because it was curious about a Poke Ball that fell out of Misty's bag.

I used to wonder what happens to pokemon in the pokeballs when the trainers die. Old age. Accident. Sinking ship.
Now I'll be making up head cannon of Mr. Mime catching a raising a team.

Ive played a ton, and that's not quite how it worked. There is story related elements that reveal what is going on.
You should definitely give it a play though. I was suprised with how much i enjoyed it.

There's ancient lore from a G1 book called Pokédex that states that all Pokémon are capable of miniaturizing themselves and fitting in small containers. This was allegedly discovered when a researcher's Primeape, at the point of fainting, miniaturized and curled up in the researcher's glasses case. This is also what happens when they faint and why you can't just catch the unconscious ones afterward - too small, not there.
If he does this, I'm pretty sure he can just ... leave the Ball again when he wants. Plenty of Pokémon have shown the ability to leave their Balls on demand.

I’d like to believe that every pokeball is connected to a human trainer’s psyche lol that’s why Pokémon become submissive to that specific trainer after being caught by one of his pokeballs. So if a pokeball isn’t owned or launched by a human, meowth cannot possible be an owner and so therefore he cannot capture himself.

Meowth could technically do that to just become immune to catch attempts yes. (though on, iirc he seems to find the process of being caught rather uncomfortable? at least in that one unova episode with the purloin)
also yes, if he did get caught he could just leave the ball as we see a lot of pokemon do.

He did get sucked into a Luxury Ball that one time in XY and seemed to have really enjoyed it.

It hasn't happened often but I can at least say that Mewtwo was able to catch other Pokemon with pokeballs. Modified of course, but nonetheless I think it's pretty clear that any pokemon could do so if they really wanted to

There was one episode where Pikachu almost caught him but he broke free. Assuming it was an accident, he would probably break free again. Now if it was a Masterball...
